Rumorang: Mass Effect DLC mentioned in new ME release documentary
If reports from the recently released Mass Effect Platinum Hits edition are to be believed -- and we're wont to believe the people who made the game -- then more Mass Effect DLC is on its way and it's going to be combat heavy. On the second disc that comes packed in with Mass Effect Platinum Hits is a documentary titled (appropriately enough), "The Future of Mass Effect," in which project director Casey Hudson and principal lead designer Preston Watamaniuk confirm -- at very least -- the existence of more Mass Effect DLC.
Roughly one quarter of the way through the documentary (embedded after the break), Preston Watamaniuk says, "Things we're working on right now, for the Mass Effect universe next ... we had something in Mass Effect 1 that again, we weren't able to pull off just because we didn't have the time and we didn't think we'd be able to do it well enough, which was a fight club or an arena. So we're actually working on that for our next downloadable content piece and we're hoping it'll be really special."
Casey Hudson expands on that, saying, "So we wanted to be able to give people a much more combat-oriented, lighter-story experience. You're going to go to a kind of casino gaming fight club space station." You heard it here first: a casino gaming fight club space station. Batarians be damned, we're going gamble-fighting in outer space! We've, again, put word into BioWare regarding this and will update accordingly as news comes in.
[Thanks, Daniel]

Watamaniuk, you've broken rule #1:
You don't talk about Mass Effect Fight Club.
MEATLOAF2 @ Feb 16th 2009 11:25AM
i hope mass effect 2 comes to ps3, ive played some of the first one and it was great... i'd hate to miss out again :(
Jerk Face @ Feb 16th 2009 12:54PM
I feel like I've read on the Stiq here recently that it was all but confirmed to be 'multiplatform'. I suppose that could mean 360 and PC but still..
serialman @ Feb 16th 2009 1:05PM
I sincerely hope you're right because I think everyone should have a shot at experiencing the Mass Effect story and universe. However, Microsoft Game Studios was the first game's publisher upon its console release, so I imagine they included some legal red tape that would, at the least, make it incredibly unlikely for a PS3-bound sequel.
Still, there's always the PC release.
The Baron @ Feb 16th 2009 2:18PM
Well, multiplatform generally refers to 360/PS3, right?
Besides, I'm pretty sure EA/BioWare own the franchise rights.
MEATLOAF2 @ Feb 16th 2009 8:50PM
why did i get down voted??? you people are rude, i simply complimented a good game, and said i wish i could play the next, whats wrong with that???
Duke @ Feb 16th 2009 11:28AM
This kind of content doesn't seem very exciting. I don't know if it would be enough to make me interested in starting up ME again since there isn't much of a story element.
BTW: Typo alert for ya - "and we're want to believe the people who made the game"
Duke @ Feb 16th 2009 12:27PM
Weird, now "want" turned to "wont" in the above sentence.
joe @ Feb 17th 2009 12:35AM
thats cuz "wont" is the proper word in that sentence. read a book

There should be DLC that lets you earn the Paramour Achievement with TALI.
Dirty @ Feb 16th 2009 11:42AM
*looks at avatar*.....*shakes head*.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Feb 16th 2009 11:59AM
Dirty, what the hell is that supposed to mean?
serialman @ Feb 16th 2009 12:55PM
'bout to nerd out here...
You can't have sex with Tali because she will most likely die from disease. That's why they wear the weird suit-things: Centuries of living in a germ-free space colony shot the quarians' immune system to hell.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Feb 16th 2009 1:25PM
WHERE THERE'S A WILL THERE'S A WAY.
After all, Quarians themselves must reproduce somehow.
And besides, if it's that strict, they could have a romantic storyline with Tali where, at the end, you determine you can't be together. It would be sad, but hey, life's sad.
The Baron @ Feb 16th 2009 1:33PM
Well if they all live on a germ-free flotilla together, then they can mate all they want without suits.
Dirty @ Feb 16th 2009 2:58PM
*shrugs*...*walks away*
Markez @ Feb 16th 2009 4:02PM
*shakes fist*...*shrugs*
serialman @ Feb 16th 2009 5:46PM
Yes, they do reproduce... inside their own space colony, with members who have also been there their entire lives.
Also, I urge you to recall middle/high school dating, and that girl significant other who wouldn't put out. Now imagine that, only in a serious, adult relationship.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Feb 16th 2009 6:15PM
The Paramour achievement says "complete a romantic subplott" not "complete it in a way that works out well" so I don't see your point.
EvilDud @ Feb 16th 2009 11:34AM
Operation Anchorage? Is that you?
mahakk @ Feb 16th 2009 2:30PM
My sentiments, exactly.
Snowblind @ Feb 16th 2009 11:35AM
Shame they've decided to focus so much on the combat with it, considering the story elements are always the best part of Bioware games, but more Mass Effect is very welcome.
Jerk Face @ Feb 16th 2009 12:55PM
That's what I was thinking: Ooh boy! Combat! Just what Mass Effect does worst!
I loved the game, but the strong point was the story and the cinematic conversation system.
SecretAgentHam @ Feb 16th 2009 11:36AM
awesome announcement if true! i need a reason to play ME again and cannot wait for the sequel! one of the BEST IP's since its release still! hope its out soon.
Louis Sansano @ Feb 16th 2009 11:50AM
More arena levels... I mean the arena in KOTOR was good but it seems like every RPG has an arena/bum fight level these days
mcatrage @ Feb 16th 2009 11:51AM
I hope it's a lot longer than the previous DLC and it takes up the rest of the achievement points.
Markez @ Feb 16th 2009 11:54AM
It was bad enough with Bring Down the Sky when I went back to the ME world after a long absence and couldn't remember all the controls and features in the combat, now we're off to a "casino gaming fight club space station"?
Man, ME was truly one of my favorite games of all time and I really wish there had been more DLC back *WHEN* I was playing it. Not this silly slow trickle of content after I've already been done with the game forever, especially combat focused DLC.
Might just have to pass at this point.
Chris @ Feb 16th 2009 12:14PM
And it's the MYSTERIOUS STRANGER!
Wilson @ Feb 16th 2009 12:25PM
I really, really liked the universe of Mass Effect, if they dumb it down with less story and more fights, then it's gonna become a run of the mill sci-fi shooter, if this is only for the DLC, then go right ahead, since the story and background is already there.
Bjorn @ Feb 16th 2009 12:57PM
I'm putting 20 on Wrex
ChromaTick @ Feb 16th 2009 1:47PM
I agree with many here that this is not what I want from ME DLC. A fight club? Really? *yawn*
I want more story, more planets to explore, more races to meet.
This is one of my favorite games for the 360, and they completely dropped the ball on DLC....and now this. It makes me sad.
Bring on Mass Effect 2.
Deck @ Feb 16th 2009 2:08PM
As a major Mass Effect fan, this is really rather dissapointing if it comes to be true. As others have said, the story elements and so forth are where the meat of this game lies. That is what BioWare is so damn good at, so I want more of that.
But.. I'll probably play it nonetheless. My guess is that this will probably come out later this year to start getting people interested in the franchise again because ME2 will be coming out in the early part of 2010.
Rhamsey @ Feb 16th 2009 2:19PM
i love mass effect, and want more dlc.
LegendaryRedass @ Feb 16th 2009 2:31PM
"We're going gamble-fighting in outerspace". That's now one of my favorate quotes ever. Anything Mass Effect: my most anticipated right now.
Daniel Crane @ Feb 16th 2009 2:44PM
[Thanks, Daniel]
You're welcome :)
Dirty @ Feb 16th 2009 3:15PM
Do want. Really I like the combat, and wish sometimes there was more - more for the second play through or even my third now (picked up the platinum version). The awesome story, well gets a bid tedious on the second time through. I will get this for sure, wish it was coming out now.
Also for the 2nd I really hope we get to visit some of the other races homeworlds, I really want to see some different environments.
Powaqqatsi @ Feb 16th 2009 9:11PM
I love ME and would pay for any dlc they care to give me. It is pretty late in the day for it though. I'm curious to see if they add any new armor or weapon perks.
What's with all the marios on comment boards? For real.
Powaqqatsi @ Feb 16th 2009 9:12PM
