This Wednesday: Death Tank rolls onto XBLA
($15).Snowblind Studios' Death Tank is a remake of the Sega Saturn classic hit and features gameplay similar to Worms, but, uh, real-time and way more explosive, as is evident in the video above. With Xbox Live support for up to eight players, eight destructible environments and prettified HD visuals, Death Tank might actually be worth the price of admission. That is, if this week's release of The Lost & Damned doesn't empty our MS point stash.

Obie @ Feb 16th 2009 2:30PM
Is it just me, or does this game look just like iShoot for the iPhone??
Jasmino924 @ Feb 16th 2009 2:35PM
Yeah that's what I thought!

Bravo6 @ Feb 16th 2009 2:57PM
That was my first thought too, haha.. $600K & counting though, can't blame him
BigD145 @ Feb 16th 2009 4:54PM
Tank Wars is the earliest incarnation I remember and it's a Windows game.
erisandra @ Feb 16th 2009 2:33PM
I'd get it for 800 but 1200 is a nono
Doug @ Feb 16th 2009 2:35PM
Wait... $15 for "scorched earth" and/or "cannon fodder?" A game from the 80s?
I mean, don't get me wrong, it looks great, and the game has always been a classic (no matter what the name is), but $10 or less might be more acceptable.
Hm.
bioadam @ Feb 16th 2009 3:46PM
Scorched Earth was an awesome game from the 80s, but it was free. Maybe we'll see a decently priced remake in the community games.
Rocketboy @ Feb 16th 2009 4:07PM
I'd still pay it, but only if it had a turn-based mode.
Ebichu @ Feb 16th 2009 2:39PM
I think I'll just search for a free Flash game that offers the same gameplay.
Highimpact1 @ Feb 16th 2009 2:51PM
But the tanks fly...?
Bouillestfu @ Feb 16th 2009 5:04PM
That actually looks friggen sweet for a tanks game!
dru @ Feb 16th 2009 2:51PM
1200 points is robbery. Microsoft really needs to standardize all of its arcade prices already--this is driving me nuts! I see stuff like this and wonder why I don't just go back and download Xevious or something.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Feb 16th 2009 3:21PM
They are standardizing.
The standard: If a hot title sells well at $5 higher than their previous few hot titles, make that the typical asking price.
I love XBLA, and I think some of the expensive releases are completely worth the price of admission (Castle Crashers and Braid), but some of this shit is getting ridiculous.
Morgon @ Feb 16th 2009 3:03PM
Yay, Scorched Earth!
I guess if they would have actually named the game 'Scorched Earth' I would buy it for 1200. Ah, what am I saying - I'll undoubtedly end up grabbing this game. Although I would love to see Scorched3D on XBLA... ( http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/ )
8-player online is a nice touch, too.
Nein_Sporg @ Feb 16th 2009 3:03PM
Lol you people who have never played the original Death Tank and are talking out of your asses. There is no flash game with this gameplay, it's nothing like Scorched Earth or Cannon Fodder. You people complain about game prices and then buy shitty ass Afro Samurai or Wii games over titles like this? I'll admit $15 is probably a little high for the amount of time most people will play the game, but so many people buy worse games for more, you have NO right to complain at all.
Nein_Sporg @ Feb 16th 2009 3:05PM
BTW, the main way this one is different from Scorched Earth? This one isn't turn based, but maybe if you watched any of the videos or knew anything at all you wouldn't need me to tell you.
Mike @ Feb 16th 2009 3:22PM
Wow, a Scorched Earth remake? Cool, I loved that game! The only thing that could have possibly made this more awesome is if it was developed by Afro Samurai and it was for the Wii.
C0D0G @ Feb 16th 2009 4:02PM
First off, to say it is nothing like Scorched Earth is asinine. The original Death Tank was a bonus game in the Sega Saturn version of PowerSlave. That was in 1996 and it was based on Scorched Earth, very obvious, which came out in the dos era, 1991. Scorched earth is the archetype for games like this, the developers can make changes (i.e. real time instead of being turn-based, or flying tanks which is stupid) but that does not change the fact that the idea came from Scorched Earth, the original. Seeing as though you have the internet you should look up your facts before writing a post for the general public to see.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 16th 2009 5:13PM
Is Afrom Samurai shitty?,I was going to buy it but I dunno I don't feel like paying full price it or you are just expressing your delusion of superiority?
Anyhow looks cool and everything but I guess it doesn't appeals to me.I have a bunch of arcade games I have to finish first but it doesn't looks bad for 1,200p.
Rocketboy @ Feb 17th 2009 2:59PM
Screw Scorched Earth, I was playing tank games on my C=64.
Hell, I had a banana chucking game in GWBasic.
Pantsparty @ Feb 16th 2009 3:05PM
Are they slowly trying to standardize the XBLA prices? $15 is pretty steep.
legendtaker117 @ Feb 16th 2009 11:19PM
No way in hell am I gonna buy this for 1200. *00 yes, but this is to much.
1200 for Puzzle Quest = yes
1200 for Luminus = Yes
1200 for Braid = Yes
1200 for Castle Crashers = Yes
1200 for Banjo kazooie = yes
1200 for Portal = yes
1200 for Smarter than a 5th Grader = No
1200 for Death Tank = No
They were on a role, but are quickly falling...
bill cant fart @ Feb 16th 2009 3:17PM
Dang, that looks good. iShoot should take some pointers from this.
Deck @ Feb 16th 2009 3:20PM
WORMS is on the XBLA?! When did this happen? Why did I not know?
OH I have to buy it! God I play so much worms back in the day on the PC!
ice~ @ Feb 16th 2009 3:27PM
Your around 2 years too late :P People still play though so definitely buy it
DudeRed @ Feb 16th 2009 3:20PM
I am getting really tired of seeing the same comment over and over again....
"15 DOLLARS!!!! What a rip off."
Have you played the game? How do you translate fun to a dollar amount?
People are buying extra content for some game for 10 dollars multiple time. And if you add it up your game could cost in the upwards of 80 dollars. Why can't a new game on the arcade be at least 1/3 of the cost of a normal retail game?
I am not going to make any sort of judgment of the game until I at least try out the trail demo...that is why they are there for right? This game looks fun, you should at least try the demo...or is free to expensive for you?
Nein_Sporg @ Feb 16th 2009 3:26PM
Thank you. You're exactly right. I think people might have a right to complain if 360 disk games started to cost $100 at retail, but $15 is cheaper than most games and it seems like the game will be more enjoyable than most as well.
BlaznGoldstein (Electric 6 Defense Force) @ Feb 16th 2009 6:35PM
*Takes shelter in rational thread*
ryan @ Feb 16th 2009 10:00PM
It's really annoying reading these complaints about the price.
If this was a really successful DS title for $15 marked down from $30 at target or best buy this week, there would be no complaints. I'd love to have this on the DS for $15 but having it on the 360 for $15 is just as good.
$15 for hours and hours of fun classic gaming is alot more rational than $60 for mediocre shovel ware.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Feb 16th 2009 3:22PM
$15??? yea you can have that shit
Jambi_Bum @ Feb 16th 2009 3:47PM
I was hoping this would come out this week, just makes me sad that it's 1200. But, I'm not getting Lost and the Damned so I'll probably still pick this up.
SithAboveAll @ Feb 16th 2009 3:34PM
another 1200 point game? no thanks.
phinnvr6 @ Feb 16th 2009 3:54PM
Looks like a really crappy boring version of Crash Commandos for PS3
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Feb 16th 2009 4:08PM
I would have considered this at 800, and bought it right away for 400.
1200 is just past the "woooo hoooo impulse buy" line.
StGermain @ Feb 16th 2009 4:24PM
It looks like worms but less diverse...
JCFG @ Feb 16th 2009 4:43PM
What is it with these 15$ games? The only way I'll buy them is if there above and beyond what a 10$ would give me in terms of quality levels. Braid, SF2THDR & SoTN are those games. I would buy this Tank game if they just made it the good' ol 10$ price mark. But as it stands, nah.
Ironhide @ Feb 16th 2009 4:47PM
Those of you thinking this 1200 point game is a rip off, I own the original Death Tank and STILL play it over and over again. This game is/was one of the best mulitplayer games made. Scorched Earth but remade in to something that's more multiplayer frenetic oriented. Nothing plays quite as competitively as Death Tank. You team up, and dissolve truces at the drop of a hat. Just a plain, fun mulitplayer game. Simple as that.
OSUJay @ Feb 16th 2009 4:48PM
Reminds me of a real-time Gunbound, except you need to buy this one instead of a free download.

McWeen @ Feb 17th 2009 12:32PM
That was my first thought too.
Paul Kemp @ Feb 16th 2009 5:08PM
Yes finally! Looking forward to this game. This is what the xbox really needs, fast online games for up to 8 people.Quick and dirty style rounds. I've been looking for a Scorced Earth clone thats online multiplayer for a long time.
1200 MSP is a no brainer for a good game. How many hours of fun do you recon it is? Take your girlfriend to the movies and compare it to that. Looking forward to bombing you on live!!! :)
TheDave @ Feb 16th 2009 5:26PM
The demo is worth a download.
If turned based gameplay isn't at least an option, then I doubt it is worth the steep $15 asking price...
Why couldn't they just make a Scorched Earth HD remake for $5 ?
That would of been an instant buy!
Paul Kemp @ Feb 16th 2009 5:52PM
The fact that its not turn based doesnt have to be a turn off. The people who has played both Scorced and Death Tank Zwei actually say that they prefer it beeing not turn based.
And regards to the demo, this is a live game, im thinking the demo doesnt really give you the feeling of the game.
Mrlee @ Feb 17th 2009 12:38PM
This game has FREE multiplayer in the Demo so you can try it and see if you really think it's worth it or not.
My guess, If you play MULTIPLAYER you will buy it. It's insanely fun.
GordoJones @ Feb 17th 2009 7:11PM
R-Type Dimensions = $15 Nope, not paying this new inflated price for old game.
Death Tank = $15 Nope, not paying this new inflated price for old game.
Sadly, I had planned on buying both these little shooters, but I will not support this.
putermonkey @ Feb 17th 2009 11:24PM
Hell yeah! Rocketboy with the shootout to Gorilla.bas!
