Lara Croft may be a treasure hunter, but she came up empty handed in her quest for Trophies in the PS3 version of Tomb Raider: Underworld. This is to be remedied by way of an upcoming patch, says an Eidos community manager.
According to a post on the game's official forums, Crystal Dynamics originally desired to have Trophy support included in the shipped game. "The guys at Crystal have been looking into this for a long time because they really wanted to include it," a community rep wrote. "The good news is that I can confirm that a patch for the PS3 version of Tomb Raider: Underworld is being worked on that will enable Trophy Support."
We've contacted Eidos for comment on the patch and an expected release date. We'll update as soon as we receive word.

What's the big deal with trophies anyway? Does it make the game any more enjoyable? I like seeing the little trophy icon pop-up in the right corner when I'm playing games, but it doesn't make me want to play a bad game just to show off that I've earned tons of trophies.

It's not just for trophy whores you know, it's like a reward to do extra stuff, which means people play it longer, which obviously means more replay value

I originally didn't purchase this because they chose not to support trophies. But since they still insist on releasing EXCLUSIVE DLC for XBOX, at most i will rent this.

I agree, im not afraid to say it, if theres no trophy support, the company wont get any support from my pocket simple as, unless its a truely a Uber-Epic(vey few) game, which tomb raider is not,
even if lara has some decent D-cups. ;)
When i recieve notice on the patch ill probably buy it, the cups are calling.
BTW, any word on Silent hill trophies?

How is underworld?, I havent been interested in a Tomb raider game for many years...
As for trophies in general; I'm more likely to finish a game that has trophies, or spend a little bit more time to enjoy certain parts that i normally wouldn't play. I'm getting more replayability out of the games I buy. They can act as a guide to things you must try in order to get the most from the game.
But, I don't think any game should be played for trophy collecting alone.

It's exactly the same as every other Tomb Raider game.

I've been waiting for this. The Japanese version has it after all, so you can read the trophy titles if you search for them, but not the descriptions, most likely. Trouble is this game throws away a lot of the good stuff from later Tomb Raiders (boss fights, lengthy campaign, solid controls, challenging secrets, time trials and extra costumes, decent plot and triggered action scenes) and adds only pretty environments and motion capture animation in return. Furthermore, management messed up and gave 360 exclusive costumes and levels. PS3 version doesn't even have a chapter select option...

Disclaimer: I hate to say what I am about to say.
Trophies won't help this games sales at all. The only thing that could help this particular game (not the franchise) is to release some sort of a DLC that features sultry dress up items including bikinis and lingerie. The said truth is that Lara is a sex symbol who isn't marketed as such. If they didn't want users to focus on her sex appeal they could have shown her eyes on the cover of the newest game. Instead we got a cover that focused on her breast and legs. If they are going to try and market her they need to do it in such a way that people will be intrigued with. I'm not saying it needs to be Nude Raider but some seductive and alluring clothes as well as scenes with sexual tension would help sales.
If they didn't want to objectify Lara they would have made her along the lines of Faith in Mirrors Edge. Faith was a young, fit, athletic and strong female lead that didn't need huge breast and curvy legs. She was more of a strong female lead IMO.
I'm not saying they need to go the Onechanbara route of tasteless virtual pornography but they need to spice it up a bit or completely re-imagine the role of Lara.

Bikini option would be awsome, but adding trophies (at this time while trophies are still pretty fresh) can boost sales alittle, proof? im sure im not the only one that will be buying this now, although i object to your first point, i think your second one is very valid, take a look at Soulcalibur 4, just about all the females have breasts the size of what i can only describe as wow, also now MKvsDC Sonia, catwoman & Wonder woman all have extra large breasts too, with the cleavage to match. most devs will follow this partern i believe, i wouldnt even be surprised if there was some kinky DLC for TR

Nice!
Speaking of patching trophies, how about them invisible Bionic Commando Rearmed trophies and SingStar trophies? "Oh we'll have them out by..."
It's one thing to hear "Sorry," but GRIN and SCE London, to my knowledge, haven't said a damn thing lately. Lies, I tell you.

Well...I think I will just run threw Uncharted again and finish up those trophies rather than....kind of play this...
I like trophies though...They will remind me of my great escapades threw gaming....I still keep some of my old accomplished games from ps2 on a old memory card. If I had trophies showing me the accomplishment of the Big Boss emblem I could have deleted my save data without worry ( I had to restore my ps3 to get it fixed and I had no USB device to save it)......Well...I would have stilled wanted to keep my time of 3 hours and 35 minutes...Otherwise it just feels like it never happened...

Maybe they should focus their efforts on the next game... instead of wasting time fixing the broken DLC and adding trophies?

well thank god for that, i was going to trade in my copy this week as i didn't like the game at all, maybe i will give the game a chance but i don't feel obliged to torture myself with another round of tomb raider glitches.

Well. I can see where Crystal Dynamics / Eidos is coming from....I mean, it worked for Uncharted.
Anyways, this is good news. I wanted to try this, but if ANY developer doesn't want to offer the SAME feature set to PS3 users (such as myself) as is on the 360.
...they won't be recieving my money.

I am not a trophy whore. I AM a completionist. I know thats not a word, but it sounds good. When I know a game is going to be patched, I won't play it until that patch releases. Whats the point of playing the game twice? I was given Drake's Fortune for my birthday, but that was after I herd about the patch, but before it came out. I waited. I'm proud of sony saying "all games with release dates in 2009 will have trophy support from release."

Tomb Raider's stil>Uncharted. For the platforming elements imho. It owns, now do I want this game? idk.... I love platformers but they're all to easy. Any word from you gamers on this?

good move adding trophies, it increases sales and tips people over who without trophy support decided not to buy.
Which is especially important when a game didn't sell so well without them!

I bought the game then heard it was terrible. Im not touching the game until the trophies are out. I use to like Tomb Raider games but I haven't played any since PS1, perhaps this game with trophies it will help me become a TR fan again.
