Burnout Paradise 'Legendary Cars' priced
Criterion Games has officially announced the price for the upcoming Legendary Cars DLC for Burnout Paradise. Gamers who hunger for choice can download each vehicle separately or together in a discounted package when they release on February 19. The Jansen 88 Special (you know, the not-so-subtle nod to the DeLorean) is priced at $3.99 / 320
, while each of the other three vehicles clock in at $1.99 / 160
a piece. The Legendary bundle will also be available for a discounted price of $7.99 / 640
.
We know your first reaction would be to get upset that the obvious favorite in the package is priced slightly higher. Think of it as a glimpse into the future. Flying cars are going to be hella expensive. Don't even get get us started on the time traveling or air conditioning options -- we still don't know how those packages aren't on the base models.
[Update: Originally we listed the Legendary Cars pack at 600
; however, the price is $7.99 / 640

does the delorean actually fly (i.e. can you fly over buildings, water, etc.) or just hover?
ChooChooCharlie @ Feb 17th 2009 9:25AM
From the videos and screenshots, it looks like you can only hover.
xenocidic @ Feb 17th 2009 9:37AM
meh I guess where we're going we do have need for roads.
Lars @ Feb 18th 2009 12:58PM
I remember reading something from Criterion where they said the car will "hover". They never said anything about flying. And I wouldn't expect it to anyways.
Very pleased about the pricing! I expected $5 each for sure.
il_duce620 @ Feb 17th 2009 9:25AM
First of all, they announced it last night (unless "today" means "midnight EST", 'cause I was playing after 11:00 CST).
Secondly, I'm all over this. I think $5 may have been a bit more appropriate, but hell, I would have spent $10 on it...
xenocidic, so far as I know, it does "fly," and at least certainly hovers. I don't recall any videos showing the car actually flying through the air, though.
Xav de Matos @ Feb 17th 2009 9:27AM
This site is based on an EST schedule.
Shmil @ Feb 17th 2009 9:30AM
WHOOO EST RULES!
Martin @ Feb 17th 2009 10:33AM
Stupid EST fanboys.
Xav de Matos @ Feb 17th 2009 9:27AM
It hovers.
Slaziman @ Feb 17th 2009 9:31AM
I hope it's free for PC, they're delaying it a month so maybe...
either they make it free, or some hacker kid will, lol
Kizzle @ Feb 17th 2009 9:36AM
I guess I'll buy the bundle.
That's actually a little less than I was expecting...with the way EA usually is, I was expecting 800 points.
Travis @ Feb 17th 2009 9:37AM
hoverwreck: here I come
Jcarpio @ Feb 17th 2009 9:39AM
So will they just be available in our junkyards after purchase. or would we have to "shut them down" first?
capt_carl @ Feb 17th 2009 10:01AM
I'd much rather have to shut them down first. Just give me the Hunter Citizen and I'll go to town.
erivera3 @ Feb 17th 2009 9:41AM
Haha, nice Lil Wayne reference with that caption, I lol'd.
drakkor @ Feb 18th 2009 1:02PM
You mean ghost busters reference? Right kiddo?
aggrazel @ Feb 17th 2009 9:43AM
On the one hand, I should feel like paying 600 points for a few cars is a ripoff.
On the other hand, its burnout paradise and its already given me lots of extra content gratis.
And its a flying delorian.
Play on.
modified @ Feb 17th 2009 12:34PM
The billboards and vans plastered with ads had something do with the previous content being free. You guys are acting like it was just all goodwill when it wasn't.
Why should I have all the fun? @ Feb 17th 2009 12:57PM
In-game ads supplement revenue. That has nothing to do with whether they release free content.
Doug @ Feb 17th 2009 7:50PM
I actually like the ad sometimes. There are usually eggs in them :O!
Orex @ Feb 17th 2009 9:48AM
Okay seriously not buying 3 seperate bundles. (toycars, party, this one) thats more than £/$15 for all 3, are they bringing a discounted bundle of some sort? (for all 3)
Deck @ Feb 17th 2009 11:23AM
Alright, you don't have to buy them all. You can pick and choose from what you want. Plus, after all the content criterion has put out, a couple pieces of DLC that one pays for seems quite reasonable in my book.
Orex @ Feb 17th 2009 10:49PM
I want all 3 though
PS3Lee @ Feb 17th 2009 9:49AM
Just for anyone who wants to know the price in pounds (£)
The whole set will be £6.29, or individually they are £1.59 with the Jansen 88 being £3.19.
I'll be buying the lot !
Edward @ Feb 17th 2009 9:51AM
This is horribly overpriced. $3 for a car? I'll just get it off someone else.
Steve @ Feb 17th 2009 9:54AM
How exactly do you think you'll "get it off someone else"?
Dirty @ Feb 17th 2009 9:58AM
Its DLC not herpes. After all the free shit they gave you, you still wanna bitch.
Darkdrium777 @ Feb 17th 2009 9:59AM
If he's on PSN, which I think he is, because he mentioned the price in real money and not points, it's very possible to be able to ''get it off someone else''.
However, it may also be impossible if the developers wish it to be. ;)
Duke @ Feb 17th 2009 10:12AM
$8 for the whole pack when this company has been giving away stuff since the game came out. Suck it up and buy the pack and show support for a company that has given you way more support than the others. If you steal the content you're just a tool.
Mattchewie @ Feb 17th 2009 9:54AM
Hrm, ? discount bundle? When I do the math on the PSN figures I see you can actually save 2 cents buying each separately.
So IMHO, its not a DISCOUNT bundle, its just a bundle.
ChooChooCharlie @ Feb 17th 2009 9:59AM
Individual:
Jansen88 - $3.99
Ecto-1 - $1.99
Kitt - $1.99
General Lee - $1.99
Total = $9.96
Discounted Pack:
Total = $7.99
So, how is this not a deal again?
firstbornrogers @ Feb 17th 2009 10:01AM
There are FOUR cars, with the Jansen 88 Special clocked at $4, while the other THREE are $2 EACH. 4 + (2 x 3) = $10. And I'm pretty sure $10 is more than $8.
Math is your friend.
firstbornrogers @ Feb 17th 2009 10:02AM
Ouch, double math Nazi combo.
robert @ Feb 17th 2009 10:07AM
your math is wrong.
$3.99 DeLorean
$1.99 KITT
$1.99 General Lee
$1.99 Ecto 1
$9.96 total separately > $7.99 bundle
EdgeOne @ Feb 17th 2009 1:22PM
@ robert 320 points = $4 not $3.99.

Mattchewie @ Feb 17th 2009 1:33PM
Opps!!! I forgot about the General Lee car, my bad :D.
I hang my head in shame :(
Mattchewie @ Feb 17th 2009 1:39PM
?? hrm comment system ...
DOH! I forgot about the General Lee type. Thank you for pointing out my mistake!
Ned Fetterhoff @ Feb 17th 2009 9:56AM
I must be alone in thinking this is like horse armor part 2. The cars don't really do anything special, the Jansen 88 Special doesn't fly. If this were any other racing game, people would be starting riots over 8 bucks for a 4 car pack.
I love the game, but I think I will be skipping this pack.
Kola @ Feb 17th 2009 10:02AM
You're ungrateful simple.
They spent an entire year giving away free stuff, and then you have the heart to call the cars, horse armor?? If you want I would give you the $8 seriously because that claim is just ridiculous.
Bananarama @ Feb 17th 2009 10:06AM
That may be true, but I think Criterion bought a LOT of good will with all the stuff the released for free. I think most people see this as paying for all the previous free stuff combined, or at least I do.
Ned Fetterhoff @ Feb 17th 2009 10:15AM
LOL @ Kola. I glad you are so passionate for Criterion, I think they are a great company too, and yes it is awesome they gave away free stuff for a year.
With that said I'm still not that interested in buying over priced cars. Maybe if they added something different to the game other than looks I'd be all about it.
PN04 @ Feb 17th 2009 11:23AM
You CAN ride that shit through Ironforge... These are vehicles with different handleing speed and strength stats. Not to mention special animation and aesthetics it's a lot more than just buying "horse armor".
why not the LS2LS7? @ Feb 17th 2009 11:44AM
Why riot? Isn't it simpler to just not buy them?
This isn't the same as horse armor. Horse armor was just visual, and you couldn't even show it off to other people, because the game in question wasn't multiplayer.
These cars handle differently than the existing cars and because the game has online support, you can go wave them under your friend's noses if you want.
I still don't think I'll buy them, but it is a bit different.

$8 for 4 cars?? not too sure how I feel about that
ironmike26 @ Feb 17th 2009 10:09AM
"$8 for 4 cars?? not too sure how I feel about that"
How did you feel about the free bikes??
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Feb 17th 2009 10:20AM
hell it was FREE. lol
I mean it was a nice addition to the game but I have rarely even used them
Obie @ Feb 17th 2009 10:03AM
While I think the price is a bit steep, to be fair Criterion has given us a crapload of stuff for free, so maybe throwing a few bucks their way might not be such a bad thing.
BxGT @ Feb 17th 2009 10:03AM
Meh, forza had 11 cars for 5 bucks but i wont complain because they gave me free dlc.
capt_carl @ Feb 17th 2009 10:03AM
Seeing how I'll probably never be able to find a DeLorean for sale in good shape anytime in my lifetime, I guess the 88 Special shall have to suffice.
robert @ Feb 17th 2009 10:10AM
you could always buy a brand new DeLorean
