Microsoft on RROD: The worst is behind us

"What it comes down to is isolating and figuring out the issue, fixing the issue, and the more that we can fix the issue, and know it's fixed, then we're good going forward," said Greenberg. "We've put the worst behind us on this, but we know there are a few lagging systems, and so we want to take those and make it right."
Hopefully, Microsoft can move towards a brighter future with its more reliable Jasper technology and leave its problematic hardware past behind. Those early RROD days were really, really, really bad and we welcome any improvement in hardware quality. If not for Microsoft's sake, at least for ours. Sending out RROD condolence cards is getting old.

HDMI units are from '07, meaning not a jasper, meaning rrod isn't abolished.

Wow. Really. Is this how low our expectations of the 360 have become? 3 returns...7 months on the newest system. It never ceases to amaze me, how these guys can bend consumers over, rape them, then get a pat on the back and a "Hey, that wasn't so bad."

I dunno. I guess that's cool. For me, personally, fixing it three time doesn't make up for selling me a piece of crap. Especially considering all the evidence that they KNEW it was crap when it left the factory. Would you accept the same from a car company? Honestly, would you? Would it be okay with you?
Maybe that's a bad example, because a car could kill you or someone you love if it breaks in the middle of use. But, you get my meaning. Honestly, from the outside looking in, this whole fiasco is just insane.
And, most will call it fanboyism because I happen to own a PS3. But, even if I owned no video game console at all, I would look at this whole situation and say, "WTF?!!?"

Not certain if everyone had been paying attention, but this stupid douche Troy Powers was insisting in another thread that *most* 360 sales can all be attributed to people buying another system when their 1st tanked. i think the stupid douche actually said that over half of sales were for that reason. Actually, the comment was that "a large number" of the 360 sales were due to people replacing broken systems. Not "most" or "over half." Someone later miscontrued the comment as "over half." Immediately after I said, "Yes, that's exactly what I said. Over half." Sarcastically. Go back and read the posts before you jump out of the gate with accusations.

One would possibly say that the majority were replacements if A. You have a three year warranty(and they extend your standard warranty by a year after each repair) and B. Every multi-platform game sells more on the 360. Period. If the majority are replacements then why do 360 games sell more than Ps3 games? Are the 14 million 360 owners buying multiple copies of each game?

Insulting and trying to discredit someone who points out that the 360 has a dismal failure rate IS in fact fanboyism though.

My points:
1) The 360 failure rate is attrocious.
2) Microsoft wronged consumers by releasing such a product because there are documents showing they knew their product was failure prone, but they were in a hurry to get a jump on the competition, so released it anyway.

If you're saying I'm a jerk because I like trolling the Microsofties...guilty as charged. But, it only gets to that point when the name calling starts.
In all honestly, it's just an interesting situation to me. That's why I comment on it when it comes up. You make it seem like I shouldn't comment on it because it hasn't happened to me personally.
You have to understand that I'm a psych major. So, there are actually psych angles to this whole situation that interest me. For instance, if you buy your console at launch, a year before the competition, that an entire year that you've invested time in playing your games, money in building your library, and time into building friendships with your mates on Xbox Live. Now, because of what you've already invested, you're more likely to stick with a faulty 360. Did Microsoft have this in mind when they launched? That's anyone's guess. But, I just think it's interesting. Therefore I comment on it.
Was "rape" a harsh word? Sure. Was it not fitting to what happened? That's for each to judge. Did it spark some fanboyism? Not until Knight Marquise, Lord Negatron, and Markez showed up. The original poster actually made a good point by saying, "Hey, but the 360 has some great games, I have fun with it, and on it I can chat with 7 other people no matter what I'm doing."
Cool. I can dig that.
But, I'm not the fanboy here.

come on Troy. i used to be just like you but i actually went out and bought a 360 (and used one even) a couple months back and it's been great. and when you look at the big picture, even though i love Sony, i had to buy 3 PS2's and Sony never offered me anything for free even though it was their manufacturing that caused the problem (Disc Read Error). luckily i had a warranty from Circuit City so i just took it back each time and they gave me another (and a gift card for the difference in price since it had dropped each time which was icing on the cake).
MS messed up, and some people get it worse than others but i do have to stand and applaud that they are actually fixing their mistake instead of just sweeping it under the rug. sure i hate faulty hardware, but the 360 has been the best i've ever seen in terms of dealing with that faulty hardware.

i've had 3 ps2's over the past 6 or 7 years, 2 fat and 1 slim.
both fat ps2s died of laser/lens issues, both outside of warranty. the 3rd, a slim, is still alive.
anyone remember turning their ps1 on its side to get it to read?
looks like it took sony a couple years to get it right as well.
sidenote: a friend's ps3 has had 2 blu-ray drive issues requiring warranty repair. it might not have as high an overall failure rate as the 360 but it's far from perfect.

Refurbs get a new manufacturing date, so I doubt it. My latest non-HDMI system has a manufacturing date of August '08.

Seems to me that the E74 has been blamed on heat issues and they have made steps to have the 360 parts run cooler. I don't think its fair to just assume the E74 could easily be the new rrod -especially since you haven't experienced it.
