Only 54.4% for top manufacturer? Someone's not reading their tarot cards right. Either that or there are more hopefuls for "the bubble burst" left than i had thought

It doesn't look like GI.biz asked about the platform holder that would make the most money in 2009. Success is relative, so...

The fact that 300 industry professionals are casting "I don't know" and "others" votes is pretty asinine. The survey questions and results aren't really terrible interesting ones either. From looking at the source article it also seems these two questions are the entirety of the survey, very creative. Maybe next time they can add some other questions to make this more relevant or interesting.

Our 1st ever survey!

"GamesIndustry.biz will reveal more results from the survey over the coming weeks. "

I guess we'll have to wait longer to see what else they came up with.

But yah, I agree that this survey, or at least the 2 questions, are rather vague. Success can't be measured...

I fail, was apparently glossing over that and only paying attention to the following sentence - "The full results, as voted for by the GamesIndustry.biz Network, follow:"

yep, thats EXACTLY why. You hit the nail on the head, my friend. Its not so they don't have people like you whining about "OMG JOYSTIQ IS TEH BIASED AGAINST SONY AND THE PS3!!!!1111".

Not like it stops people like you from doing it anyways (not you in particular, but the others...)

I have a prediction for you mate:

The Nintendo Wii wins the console wars, Xbox360 stays in 2nd place and the PS3 stays in 3rd place.

Cheers!

As much as I love the PS3, simply stating that it's winning in sales with no evidence and plenty to the contrary, is just bizarre.

He looks so happy in the picture. Only time I ever see a Roker sighting is on The Soup, what a great show. Gladiator second from the left looks like Nickelback dude on some serious steroids.

At first I thought the picture featured Arnold Schwarzenegger and the cast of The Running Man. Then I thought, Al Roker wasn't famous back then. Then I realized it had to be recent. Then I realized this is part of the cast of American Gladiators. Then I thought of how great that show was, and how bad the show is now. Then I wondered if it was canceled. Then I thought that it probably was. Then I thought Al Roker looks better as a fat man. Then I posted this message for no reason.

why is nintendo second for the most profitable publisher?? all they are releasing are remakes of gamecube games and that's about it. The mario and zelda title are probably coming in 2010.

Aside from their steady income from what are basically ROM dumps, as well as Punch-Out!!, which is definitely going to make some money

Mario and Zelda are definitely 2010, but my bet is that Retro Studios drops their game this year, and Pikmin 3 comes with it

Mr Khan,

Well, in regards to Pikmin I think this could happen:

Nintendo doesn't announce Pikmin 3 til 2 months before release, which I would say could very well be by Q3 09, that way is not that early and doesn't take away sales from the rerelease of Pikmin 1&2 yet still early enough to take advantage of the attention.

Also, based on release dates, most of the Wii releases are in Spring and Fall, while most of the big releases for the PS3 and 360 are in Fall, meaning that it would have to be released on Summer, alongside Wii Sport Resort. That way they release a huge casual title alongside a highly acclaimed core game, covering both bases.

It sounds like a perfect plan, but the problem is, do you really think that Pikmin 3 would be ready by Summer 09?...

Eh? I didn't quite follow that. Why would Pikmin 3 have to release by summer? If anything, i think Punch-Out!! will be their big core game to complement Wii Sports Resort. Pikmin 3 would be the ideal holiday blockbuster

uh, Pikmin is not as strong as say Mario, Zelda, or a Wii- title, putting it on the holiday timeframe wouldn't be that smart, the titles for the "hardcore"gamers on the PS3 and 360 are much stronger than what Nintendo has to offer.

Releasing Pikmin 3 on summer would give it much more attention.

@Noshino:

I actually have the feeling that Wii Sports Resort is not going to be a massive success. Don't get me wrong it'll obviously sell millions and I don't think it will 'fail' like Wii Music (which has a paltry 2.5 million sales!), but I don't think it's really going to exceed Wii Fit.

That's a just guess, maybe I'm wrong and people will go wild for it. Right know though I just don't think 'a much more accurate version of the controller we already have' is really going to sell games the way 'a totally new way of controlling games' (original Wii/Wii Sports) or 'have fun and get fit' did.

@ Sony (fan)boy

Perhaps the 40+ million copies of Wii Sports that have been sold have something to do with it. That's 10 times the sales of the best selling PS3 game. In fact, every single PS3 owner would have to buy TWO copies of MGS4 just to compete with that one game.

I'd say EA will be most profitable. They cut a bunch of staff from Tiburon, which makes sense because it should take maybe five people to make a roster update, and EA's "real games" have been far better as of late.
