Doesn't DICE already have Frostbite Engine? Or is that a third party engine as well?

The D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Conference has nothing to do with the Swedish game company, EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (D.I.C.E.).

They do have their own Frostbite engine, but they also use the Unreal 3 engine for some games.

Good luck to Infernal, seems like its a bad time to try and sell an engine seeing as how Unreal 3 is in just about everything these days, besides the Wii.

Awesome.

A game engine that can make a leather trenchcoat look like cheap plastic. Just what gamers everywhere have been waiting for.

See? They did a great job, you should be a fan. That's actually textures and polygons that they made look like a leather trenchcoat that looks like it's made of cheap plastic! It's so meta.

The image above was crafted using the engine, and will serve as one of the items Terminal Reality uses to market its middleware product. So, developers, if you're looking for something that can help you create dudes with glowing eyes, old rifles, and a taste for tacky jewelry, who you gonna call?

Ahh cool it, Charlie. Tone down the histrionics. :P Reading it, I felt it implied that no, it's not from Ghost Busters, and yes it was being used solely for promotional purposes. There are a few smarty pants below me who have the right answer.

So... why am I the only one that realises the screenshot is based on Nocturne? I know it's just a kind of tech demo shot, but that they're using The Stranger to promote the engine is pretty cool, and hopefully a hint for a sequel..

Oh, how we could hope. If memory serves, Gathering of Developers owned the Nocturne franchise and not Terminal Reality, and when Nocturne didn't sell especially great they nixed any idea of a sequel. Most of the staff who worked on the original game are no longer at Terminal Reality either. I know that at least one member is now working on Duke Nukem Forever.

Nocturne is one of my all time favourite games, too!

The image above is also an IP Terminal Reality used to have the rights for back in the 90's. I believe the character is called "The Stranger" and was a part of a paranormal investigative unit in the 1930's. It was a super cool storyline with gameplay that resembled the Alone in the Dark series. It had the humor and visual finesse of the Hellboy franchise with a lot more horror thrown in.

I miss that game.

But you're right. Anything built over that old engine probably just won't cut the mustard these days... unless you're reviving a 1980's movie about catching ghosts.

I look forward to a world where all games are not created using the UE3 engine... I'm so sick of that engine.

By 'next-gen', did Terminal Reality mean 'current-gen'?

Seriously, how long do these consoles have to be out for people to stop referring to them as next-gen.

Is this the engine that made PC game Infernal? I really enjoyed the demo for that one.

Smart move on their part, engine licensing nets more revenue then making titles does. It will be interesting to see who uses this vs id's or Epic's.
