EA is killing me with the "Pay-for-unlockable" content. I wonder if you do that does it automatically give you the trophy for unlocking said cars. Thats paying for trophies/achievements and its just unethical.

I know, shouldn't we be able to buy achievements/trophies directly from MS/SONY?

Are Trophies/Achievements really significant enough to warrant this being an ethical quandary? I guess you have to put stock into their value to really care that someone is stupid enough to pay actual cash-moneyz to extend their e-penis.

The real problem is that they are charging $5 for something that used to be handled by cheat codes in previous generations. Those were the days.

Cheat codes unlocked stuff already on the disk/cart, this is stuff made for a game that is a full year old. That's not too shabby. It can, however, be argued that the price is a bit high for what are essentially re-skins and tune-ups.

@ GSpruce

The TimeSavers pack unlocks all of the content otherwise accessible on the game disc (and I'd assume it unlocks the other bikes in the bike update) for the nominal fee of $5 US.

@ ittybittygirl

Before i start id just like to say im not buying butout just for trophy/achievments.
n e ways, Im sure not everyone understands but trophy/achievments are not just about showing how big ure "e-Peen" is, trophy/achievments add replayability into games, especialy if there incredibly fun games, like Uncharted, gears of war, dead space, resistance 2 and so on. And its good to get recognition for a challenge or somthing that was really hard to do and get rewarded for it, like in a race doesnt 1st place get a medal, i know trophy/achievments are not physical but they are still there and they can be seen, it might not be like that with you because of course everyone has there own opinion but im sure its like that with a whole lot others.

Just thought id make a pont,

I couldnt care less about the toy cars. The Boost Specials intrigue me, however. I wish somebody had some nice HD video of those.

I'm pretty sure it's just a visual thing, but then this is a game about slamming really awesome smooth shiny cars into walls and hundreds of miles per hour and watching the metal bend and warp and the particles fly off into the distance. It's all about visuals...

YES - I got the Toy Cars pack for 1000points when I saw the "accidental" download and for me it was worth it. I initially purchased it b/c my two boys (ages 2.5 & 4 yrs.) wanted these cars. My younger son can actually play Burnout without help pretty well for a two year old and he that loves the Burnout series. I don't think that it was "accidental" any more than the Halo leaks were "accidental" or "stolen" items. I believe these so-called leaks are to see how the xbox live community will respond to the new content i.e., "Will anyone be interested in this material?" The advantage that I found wih the toy dcars it that they can accelerate much faster than the other cars and yet take less damage from falls and crashes. By this I mean, if a toy car crashes into a wall or falls from a high ledge they have a greater chance of getting a driveaway than other cars that always seem to crach in the same situations.

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this or whatever, but I'm sorry, Criterion is charging waaaay too much for these DLC packs. Yeah, they gave us a year's worth of great free content and I appreciate that, but damn, that's not an excuse to be overcharging us for stuff like this. $12.50 for a bunch of tiny cars? $9.99 for an offline multiplayer mode? By the looks of it, the new Island is gonna be around $20.

With all this new content, and the rumored size of the island (apparently it's huge), the 2009 DLC is basically a sequel, but you only pay for the bits you want. I think this is a great way to do it. Better than buying Burnout Paradise 2 for $60.

I was an insomniac last night and managed to pick everything up, except the TIMe Saver (I'm still slogging my way to the Elite license and those cars are valuable carrots along the way). It's all well worth the price of admission as far as I'm concerned. The Toy Cars are particularly fun, though nothing challenges the Jensen in hover mode.

I too was up late and got them all. I really like the Nighthawk Mech. But the Jensen in hover mode is the coolest I think.

I really dig that companies are putting time savers out. Helps out the people like me who are only casual gamers and want to have a little more fun than what you're given off the start.

Kudos for this!

No doubt achievements are fun to earn and, if implemented properly, can add significant replay value to a game (though at the same time, it could be argued they detract significantly from a game's replayability - You can only unlock it once). The whole e-penis statement wasn't meant to be as brash is it may have read, and was written strictly in the context of people who would pay to get a leg up.

"...they are still there and they can be seen..."

Indeed, and I must ask, if your gamerscore / trophy count is really that significant and special, is the extra 1200 points really worth the shame and knowledge of playing Avatar: The Burning Earth and Dash of Destruction for the sole purpose of easily attainably achievements?

I don't know, I just can not seem to purchase DLC. The way I see it if I am buying it I want it in the future as well. How long are companies going to keep this stuff around? Heck, I still go back from time to time and play my NES, will my purchased DLC still be around 20 years from now? I need my games to be on a tangable disc or something I can go back to.

How does it work if you uninstall the game? I guess the DLC is tied to your account and can be re-downloaded?

What happens when wew get to xbox720? Will the DLC carry over to that system?

Personally I rarely replay games, so its not an issue... but it'd suck if all the DLC content from this generation just vanished at the end.

It needs to be put in a museum...

I have the toys just thought I'd say this.

But when you play an offline event your rivals are Toys as well! All the toy cars are 2 Speed but the WTR is a 3 speed. They are all heaps stronger than usual and wrecks are as common as a driveaway in a big car,

But you don't get the gold or platinum paint, for that you still have to get the Elite & Criterion Elite license.
Too bad the new cars don't have the those gold/platinum paints, the 88 special is cool to drive, that knight rider knock off is very fast, gonna set some new records this weekend...

@ittybittygirl

$5 isn't minimal since a $20 PSN card costs $50 in Chile, and i can't use my credit card since is not amercian

so, for many ppl outside the US 5 bucks, aren't 5 bucks... for me, the time savers pack would cost $12.50

i'm glad i unlocked everything the old way

btw.. i think paying for something you already purchased (data on the disc) should be illegal

Good lord people, I swear that even if the price of these downloads was 10 cents, you would still complain. I honestly do not understand the mentality of gamers anymore - where does this selfishness come from whereby you think that every game producer actually owes you something and that they should give you everything for free.

So before you all start whining about the costs of downloads, remember these two points: (i) it actually costs money to produce content; and (ii) the companies have to pay their employers to make the content.

if you own the ps3 version, why dont you get together and share the content price as you can share dlc between 5 accounts.makes sence esspecially for the girl who has to pay silly prices for psn stuff due to where you live.just takes a bit of cooperation and trust.look at ps3 hax for tutorial on sharing accounts and stop bitchin and enjoy playing
