DSi looking at April 3 release in Europe, no price announced
Nintendo, lifting a periscope out of the sea of cash it's been running deep in, sent word by Morse code that the DSi will release in Europe on April 3. Due to the antiquated technology delivering the message, it seems the price for Europe got lost in translation. The Times online reports that it may be "around £149" (€169, $213). The European DSi will be offered in harmonious black and white models.
Nintendo of America announced yesterday that the DSi will be offered to North America in black and blue models, ready to snap photos and get snatched up for $170 come April 5th.

£150 wouldn't surprise me at all, with the worthless pound, strong yen and all. Still a bit cheeky though, but I'm sure I'll be investing in one eventually.. :)
XLM @ Feb 19th 2009 11:56AM
Hi kevin, I'll trade you a bag of dollars for a bag of your worthless pounds =)
Alex @ Feb 19th 2009 12:15PM
I don't know whether to trade my Lite in now or wait a while and then get the DSi. Trade it in now I'll probably get £40-ish, if I wait then it will only get less than that.
Are they stopping Lite production after this comes out?
Kevin @ Feb 19th 2009 12:51PM
Nah, I doubt it, at least for a while after they'll keep pumping out the DS Lites :) My old Phat's gathering dust.. somewhere ¬¬
@XLM: Yeah it'd clear out some of the rubbish littered around me ;) Should I through in some Zimbabwe dollars with that? =P (I bought Z$10,000,000,000,000 off of eBay the other day =D)
meist3r @ Feb 19th 2009 9:07AM
Hope the Lite will finally drop below 100€, I'm still waiting to pick one up because I won't pay 300€ for a handheld I rarely use and some games.

I'm impressed that they figured out a way to take a popular existing product, put about 10 bucks worth of hardware into it, and sell it for almost twice the price. Kudos.
MLS @ Feb 19th 2009 9:25AM
It's $40 more. That isn't even half of the original price. Where did you get almost twice from? You're just pulling numbers out of thin air.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 19th 2009 9:36AM
The above article said $210.
MLS @ Feb 19th 2009 9:42AM
$210 the UK, where basically all media is more expensive. The Ds Lite is already $200 over there.
Combinekidd @ Feb 19th 2009 9:17AM
I'm hoping it's not £150, that would be very overpriced, Xbox 360 premium (60GB) cost the same. Hopefully 'The Times' was wrong and the DSi will cost £120, that would be more reasonable.
Lee @ Feb 19th 2009 10:26AM
So? It doesn't matter about hardware capabilities when it comes to consoles.
Cheapest 360 is £150 from the right place. Cheapest PS3 is £270. PSP is £120ish. DS is £100ish. Wii is £180. Just here mind you.
Geist @ Feb 19th 2009 9:35AM
I might be getting one. Maybe. My Phatty has served me well throughout these years, and though it may be scratched and dinged, there's no reason it can't continue to do so. The only thing that'd convince me otherwise would be some really excellent DSi titles.
ezziojames @ Feb 19th 2009 9:40AM
Already have two of them preordered for each of my kids!
cjshrader @ Feb 19th 2009 10:28AM
Why do they get white and we don't? We should have taken all of Europe in WW2 while we still had the chance. Teach those redcoats.
Lmda @ Feb 19th 2009 11:18AM
Put it this way, if it's not £100 I'm not interested. My lite does the job fine at the moment.
cknblade @ Feb 19th 2009 11:25AM
I really don't see the point of this...when I have my DS out, I have never thought of a point where I really wanted to take pictures...and I can't think of any game incorporating the camera that wouldn't use it as a gimmick (Not to go down the old Nintendo console = gimmick route...I support the touch screen + wiimote when used right...just don't think the camera has the same potential, especially such a weak one)
The new download service thing could be nice, but Japan gets all the love when it comes to wiiware...
Meh.

Heres the current Pre-order prices from GAME;
http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=10696&cm_mmc=game-_-DSi-_-preorder-_-email-_-1
Price's start at £160($230) for DSi+1GB SD card. no doubt Play/Amazon etc will be cheaper.
Still it may drop the prices of DS Lite's which is what I'm mainly looking for in the DSi release. The camera's seem pointless, so apart form the bigger screen, slimmer body etc theres not much worth getting it for. And the lack of GBA support is a bummer cos that supported the accessories too.
If it was £120 or less it may be worth it, but theres not £50 worth of extras on there.
Naiyeli @ Feb 19th 2009 12:33PM
Aww I wanted the blue one. If I got the US blue one would I still be able to buy the US region locked games while living in the UK? I'm from the US to begin with so I have both UK and US cards...

Gamestops near Philly started advertising today, with boxes, of a $169 price tag
