Yes, Killzone 2 is a great game. But you know what would make it even greater? Co-op. Those that play the single-player adventure soon realize that the computer AI partners aren't up to snuff -- a "human" squad-mate would be a much better ally in the fight against the Helghast ... or is it: the Helghast's fight against you ...
Producer Angie Smets talked about post-release DLC on the European PlayStation site. She notes that split-screen co-op had to be axed due to the overwhelming graphical demands of the game. However, the team at Guerrilla Games is looking into what they can do once the game is out to the public. "We're investigating [co-op] now for downloadable content," she says. "We're looking at what would be the nicest possible things for downloadable content. We've already started on maps ... we're not allowed to talk about anything else unfortunately!"
Additional maps for the multiplayer mode are a must, given today's necessity for multiplayer DLC. However, we're most hoping for some kind of co-op mode. Guerilla Games offered some game-changing updates to its PSP game, Killzone Liberation -- we're hopinng the team will be able to follow suit for Killzone 2.

That would be great if they could bring co-op to Killzone 2

I agree, but doesn't after thoughts seem less seamless to you? For me after thoughts like Trophies and other things seem kind of lack luster.
I really wish they would have just added it from the beginning

OMG we need this so badly. The exlcusion of co-op from this game was heartbreaking, almost.

online coop would be sweet... split screen would be alright, but prefer online.

true i think if they do have co op it will be online, split screen will be too much for the ps3 to handle.

Rohan is actually right. The game uses most of the PS3's known power, they said they had to adjust the visuals in multiplayer to keep the framerate up. They also said that splitscreen couldn't be done while keeping things looking beautiful (in more than one article).
It's not a knock against the PS3, it's a testament to the graphical orgy that they've put together using every trick they could find.

Agreed, this dropped off my buy list as soon as i realized it no longer had co-op. I just prefer co-op in shooters anymore. If I can't play through with a friend, I don't have a lot of interest in the genre.
If they patch it with campaign co-op, or a seriously good co-op mode, I'll pick it up immediately.

even if this 'game type' is not your genre of interest, its still a must have of the century.

I soo agree, co-op would be amazing! Just at least playing against bots would do me. I usually have friends over to play fps's but rarely do the ones i buy have co-op which sucks, but i Hope, HOPE this will have it.

Can someone explain why graphical demands would cause issues with co-op? Is it because the console can't process the graphics and network code at the same time?
Posted: Feb 19th 2009 4:28PM (Unverified) said
Because it means the Playstation has to render everything on the screen twice...

XiLER - thanks for the comment. Yes, I can see it in that case, but I imagine most co-op is done via the network, not split screen? Maybe I am wrong...

Actually most co-op is split-screen, or at least that's what people expect. They could have cheaped out like RE5 does and not render a widescreen image for EITHER player in co-op, but that sucks and Guerrilla knows it.
Network code is negligible, a single SPU can probably handle that all by itself. Rendering everything on the screen twice (when every single pixel has blur, physics, particle fountains, etc.) is very expensive, computationally.

NO. DLC is a cancer on gaming.
Why make a game with more content included in the finished product when you can release the game half finished and later sell idiots that same content in three downloads at 10 bucks a pop? Because of people like you. By buying DLC, you are encouraging devs to release an incomplete game.

Hate to disagree with you on that but if that is truly how you fell then don't go passed the PS2 because the future is going to hurt. How about if you didn't have DLC they would just churn out a new game every year that is a marginal upgrade over the previous model like oh I don't know Madden or COD? 9.99 is much better than 59.99 when my bank account is concerned.
As far as co-op good to see it's coming though I will most likely never use it at least the people who complain just to have some reason to hate this game will be able to shut up now, and those who really did want it will be happy to have it.

Why is it automatically assumed that DLC = incomplete game with people like you? Take the tinfoil hat off - it's content that didn't make the release date.

I wouldn't say DLC is ALL bad, but so far this generation it is becoming more and more difficult to argue against that case.
Criterion seems to be one of the very few that managed DLC properly. As I recall, they didn't even have the 'Restart Race' option until the fourth patch, something that is expected to be in almost every racing game.
DLC inspires laziness, and the thousands of retarded gamers that eat some of this shit up like candy only encourage the problem (I'm looking at you EA and Skate 2).

It doesnt mean you'd get more if they didnt offer DLC, it means they'd just stop working on the project and you'd get sod all new till the next add-on pack or full title. People never used to complain about buying update packs for games a few years ago, but apparently because they release smaller packs for smaller sums of money, it means they're stealing content you would have got for free?
Also, considering it was delayed from Sept to Feb, your saying its a good idea instead to wait what... 3-4 months for maybe 4 MP maps so they're free? You must be popular!
Only DLC ive purchased was Monsters Encore & LBP MGS pack, so im far from being someone thats happy to throw money at something cos its there, but im not stupid enough to think that any ADDITIONAL work they do after the project should be free, its a seperate project, and doesnt mean they could and should have included it with the original. If what's offered to begin with is reasonable, then i cant see the problem. They've sold a complete product, now they're offering additionals, your not getting a half-arsed item and paying to make it full.
I agree with some of the sentiment about DLC, the vast majority of it disgusts me, but then theres proper attempts that are worth peoples money, if you want them.

This is a crap argument. You can't label all DLC as content that should have been released from the start. DLC is smaller versions of what PC games have gotten for years - expansion paks. Sometimes it is unwarranted, like Mega Man 9's DLC. Little Big Planet is nickel and diming for costumes, but guess what? It's not content that should have been there, meaning LBP is a complete package without the DLC. If you want extra costumes, you have the option.
The best example: Crash Commando. That game (2.5D multiplayer shooter) begs for DLC. The game has insane amounts of value for the ten bucks that it costs. There is absolutely no way that future DLC for that game is a cancer. It's a complete package deal, multiple modes, decent maps, great online capability, but I would not think twice about paying another five bucks for a map pack. It's extra content, and you don't have to buy it, so get over it dude.

It'd be great if they actually do it... not like what happened with Motorstorm, that we had to wait until the 2nd game to get split screen multiplayer. Even if Killzone 2 just does co-op online it'd be sufficient.
