Red Xbox 360 Elite mentioned in MS press release

Alright, maybe that last one doesn't quite adhere to the formula, but according to Kotaku, an MS New Zealand promotion for the upcoming release of Halo Wars -- buy a 360, get a free copy of the game! -- explicitly excluded "the Red Xbox 360 Elite console which is exclusive to EB games." You know, that one that hasn't been announced, and that certainly won't be announced "at this time."
Though mention of the system has been stricken from the online version of the press release, we'd be immensely disappointed if the system, whether tied to Resident Evil 5 or not, failed to make an appearance. We can't let all these Red Rig of Death jokes go to waste!

Do you know how much better this is going to be over the black one?
It going to have, oh wait...
Obie @ Feb 19th 2009 11:17AM
Now the rings will match the box! Baaaaaaw!
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Feb 19th 2009 11:26AM
+1 for staing the obvious, someone had to say, even though you risk getting voted down, so you get + 1 for bravery also, which gives you a grand total of 2 for trolling today.

Oh contrare mone frare! *waves finger* It was Mr. Kietzmann himself who said we "cannot let the Red Rig of Death jokes go to waste".
McWilly @ Feb 19th 2009 11:44AM
Why would he be thumbed down? Everyone knows 360 joystiq is dominated by playslaves anyway. Silly rabbit.

Well for a person that went through it....4 times....humor is tragedy...masked with laughter. :(

exclusive to EB in New Zealand huh?? something tells me if it hits here it wont be
jarhead906 @ Feb 19th 2009 11:18AM
I don't know why so many people oppose red as a color for the console. I would certainly buy it as my first 360... when Live no longer has a subscription fee.
In a related question, has anyone ever sent in their 360/PS3 to ColorWare to get it painted? And if so, was it worth the price in terms of quality?

I may be jumping to conclusions - but are you saying you are willing to spend $120 to paint your 360, but not spend $7 a month for Live?
baby sea tuna @ Feb 19th 2009 11:29AM
That does seem pretty ludicrous, doesn't it?
Almost as ludicrous as paying $7 a month for Live when you can score 13 months for $40.

yes, i know Seinfeld* is misspelled.
Trev @ Feb 19th 2009 11:58AM
I'm a little curious why their site says region 1 systems only. Don't mean to be too suspicious, but the reason they can't paint one from somewhere else is what, exactly? Maybe it's shipping, but why wouldn't they just say that?
@Lario
The combination of developers focusing on multiplayer and online service being free on two other consoles, two handhelds and PC, means he'd be missing out on a significant portion of exclusive and multiplat games by not buying Live. Avoiding subjective evaluation of quality, you're kind of pressured into subscribing to Live if you want to play the entirety of your $60 game while the paint is completely voluntary and skipping it puts you out nothing. Kind of like spending $700 on a new HDTV is awesome, but $700 on car repairs pisses you off.
jarhead906 @ Feb 19th 2009 12:53PM
@ Professor Lario
Yes, you're jumping to conclusions. I would never pay extra to color my console of choice. I simply wanted to know the quality of the job as advertised by the website.
@ Trev
Great analysis and comprehension. Kudos.
AkaMagi @ Feb 19th 2009 11:21AM
What would be funny is if the ring of lights is normally red on the Red Elite, and if it fails they blink green.
joeybeast @ Feb 19th 2009 11:22AM
Nice move Microsoft.
RROD will be camouflaged.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 19th 2009 11:25AM
It's weird that this is an EB exclusive. I'd have guessed Target if anything.

Deeznuts420 @ Feb 19th 2009 11:56AM
this controller shall now be known as R.C.O.D.
Rhamsey @ Feb 19th 2009 12:17PM
ive said it before and ill say it again
"wait to get all excited. not like i would, the color is great for a controller, terrible for a console"
Residentevil72501 @ Feb 19th 2009 1:12PM
I am not at all a fan of the red color, the controllers buttons look rediculous with the red. I always wondered why the 360 didnt have mono color buttons like the wii/ps3, just looks a little more fluid I guess. Instead of a fucking rainbow.
Jake @ Feb 19th 2009 1:33PM
The buttons may be Skittles, but at least the controller has some heft to it. Along with real triggers...
Tuxy79 @ Feb 19th 2009 1:14PM
Red? How...uninspiring for a RE5 bundle. Makes the console look cheap(er).
eNrique @ Feb 19th 2009 1:53PM
As MY personal and honest opinion, the 360 alredy looks cheap and ugly (like a 2002 fisher price toy), instead of adding a different color they should focus on a brand new industrial design along with fixing other issues like a smaller power brick, get rid of the disc tray, and making it quieter.
Just saying.
CH3BURASHKA @ Feb 19th 2009 2:10PM
I see your red color and raise you built in WiFi.
*Microsoft folds*
aahatimy @ Feb 19th 2009 4:19PM
My PS3 doesn't have WiFi.
Draco @ Feb 19th 2009 6:05PM
unless you have a 20gb PS3 (which you could still sell at a profit) you should have WIFI
CH3BURASHKA @ Feb 19th 2009 7:25PM
Sorry for the confusion; not referring to the PS3, just referring to the 360's lack of it.
paperless @ Feb 19th 2009 2:22PM
This is cool.
Now i can have controllers with a different color each (white, black, green and red).
rov947 @ Feb 19th 2009 4:54PM
I was hoping the red controllers would be the ones with the better dpad as seen at E3 last year
Mick @ Feb 19th 2009 4:59PM
Wow! Smart move from MS... Red Xbox 360 Elite to match the RRoD.
SDeeperKyo @ Feb 19th 2009 5:23PM
In a move not to confuse customers, Microsoft will have GRoD error codes for the Red 360. /joke
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Feb 19th 2009 5:35PM
Aw, now I'm disappointed I jumped in with the black elite console. oh wait, no... no I'm not.
grp110nyr @ Feb 19th 2009 6:24PM
Uuuuh Red???? That will look....uh.... good next to the 42 inch plasma tv standing atop the wood or glass tv stand. Maybe I will paint my house red...on the outside.
RedSonRising @ Feb 19th 2009 6:50PM
i love it, ill take 2. of course, i am red son, so im probably biased.
