The official forums for Starcraft II were recently alive with the hustle and bustle of curious Zergling enthusiasts when a member of the much-anticipated game's dev team dropped in to answer a few quick questions. Most of these dealt with gameplay intricacies, which he answered in explicit detail -- though when it came to the game's release and beta schedules, his responses were fairly ambiguous (much to the chagrin of the rabidly excited forumgoers).
To manage these unanswered queries, Starcraft II lead developer Dustin "Cavez" Browder began a new FAQ thread, in which two titilating timelines were referenced -- first, he explained that the beta will be opening in 2009 "unless something crazy happens." Second, while he couldn't give any set-in-stone answers regarding the game's launch date ("our target dates are not something we hit more than half the time," he explained), Browder teased that the dev team is "in the final stretch." Sounds like it's nearing completion -- could Starcraft II be Blizzard's promised "frontline release" for this year?

Final release of SC2 to be around November 2009 as predicted early this week by many game news outlets. The reason given is mainly financial, as releasing SC2 late in the year will show massive sales for 4th quarter 2009 and probably 1st quarter 2010.

I NEED THIS GAME. I thought I was done with PC gaming but damn everytime I see these screen shots it just brings me back to those times of playing Lost Temple, just mass expanding and dominating.

After playing the game for a brief 20 minutes and promptly getting my ass handed too me by everyone else in every game I played, I am really looking forward to spending some more intimate time with the game.

A black guy is elected as president! Hah! That'll never happen in a hundred years! And even THEN the chances are slim! Hohohoho...
...oh wait, nevermind.

"unless something crazy happens"? that sounds like what Kaz Hirai said:
"And," offered Hirai, "unless things go really bad, there's no way that at the end of a life cycle our competition is going have a higher install base."
So does that mean SC2's beta isn't happening this year?

I'd much rather see Diablo 3 than this. It's been several months since we first heard officially about D3, and I don't think waiting until what would likely be mid to late 2010 will be any sort of fun at all.

Dude...SC fans have been waiting over a decade for a sequel. And you can be certain SC2 will happen before D3 does.
