Hayter wrote the Watchmen film, and with Watchmen being a sure-fire success, I'm sure Hollywood is really interested in anything Hayter is interested in.

Go Snake!

Sure-fire success. LOL you're abit too early to proclaim it that. Let's see how it goes.

They took some elements from his script but they went with another screenwriter. I believe he will still be credited in the final credits though.

Christ, how the fuck do you make a movie out of Metal Gear!?

Being on this blog and digging through wiki's gave me about 25% comprehension of the entire MGS universe and even at this point I doubt you could pack this shit into less than a trilogy.

Eh? The first Metal Gear Solid had a story that was a fairly typical "sci-fi technothriller espionage" stuff. It's not like a single movie would have to pack in all five of the MGS canon games.

I personally think an MGS movie would be kick ass, they would have to lessen the complexity of the storyline though, if they do and make it great, it could be one of the most epic movies ever, superb plot, likable / memorable characters and hey, giant mechs to go with ^^

@Linkario

yeah MGS2 was a little crazy, along with MGS4. The original two Metal Gear games were fun but it'd be hard to make a film with substance out of them. MGS1 may have been a little overwhelming for a first run through, but overall I think it was pretty coherent and understandable. MGS3 was alright too.

So yeah if they base the film on just 1 game, I think it should be MGS1. But mixing up some elements might not be so bad.

It wouldn't translate. MGS4 > movies because Kojima realized that he could make a film as long and complicated as he wanted if it's in a game surrounded by compelling gameplay. For a 2 hr film it would be waaaaaaay too dumbed down. Kojima's a genius and I really feel like he's the next Alan Moore where his work transcends film adaptation. Don't say anything about Watchmen, it's not out yet :P

I kind of agree, but if there is any movie that would be very easily adapted to film it's MGS, and with Hayter at the helm I'm not all that worried. The only thing I'd wonder is how they'd get the thing under 3 hours...

I can't think of anyone more suitable for this adaptation than David Hayter. We might actually have a good game-to-film adaptation to look forward to.

If anything an Metal Gear movie needs to be animated/anime. A live action movie with a b-actor like Hayter in the starring role? No thanks. Voicing a character is quite a bit different than actually playing the character in a live action role.

Hayter wouldn't be starring as Solid Snake, you dolt. He'd be writing. He wrote the two good X-Men films, and as others mentioned, he's also credited as a screenwriter on the Watchmen film.

Let's try to keep the flaming to a minimum, jackass. Excuse me for mistaking "at the helm" for "starring in" and not "writing the script."

It wouldn't translate mainly due to the MGS story being so incomprehensible. It has nothing to do with a potential film dumbing the story down; you need a coherent story before you can dumb something down.
