Oh wow! He made some funny jokes. That still doesn't change the fact that he's a shite comedian and his tv show is terrible.

His special, My Turn, was one of the funniest bits of stand up I've ever seen. The bit about drinking beer in Scottland was hilarious.

Things have changed a lot since Action! came out. Nowadays, tons of people totally geek out on the behind-the-scenes stuff in Hollywood. Action! was practically the prototype for Entourage. I have to imagine Action! or a show like it could be made successfully nowadays.

Humor is all about research, i think. Just like a lot of, say, Japanese attempts to satirically portray black people (Barret of FFVII, Mr. Popo of DragonBall) end up looking like racism because they have no significant experience with them. Equally, most comedians have no knowledge or insight into the industry, and so just resort to stereotypes

Yeah, I feel like Jay Mohr's joke about Rihanna being beat up by Chris Brown wouldn't have been made by a black comedian. Black comedians seem OK with making fun of black male vs black male violence, but beating up Rihanna jokes seem like they cross the line. I don't think Rihanna is even 20 years old yet.

What is your point exactly?

If Mohr only told jokes that black comedians would tell, he would have to stick to jokes about how the white game developers can't dance.

What Spiderman is trying to say is that Jay Mohr is fucked up for making fun of how Chris Brown beat the shit out of Rihanna. Rihanna is a 21 year old girl.

Mohr, according to what Joystiq is quoting, also compared Rihanna to a "ho." Aka a whore.

I dunno bout everyone else, but beating the shit out of a 21 year old girl doesn't strike me as the best material for comedy.

1. A ho is not a whore.

2. Terrible things make great comedy. That is why a cliched question in comedy regarding recent terrible events is, "Too soon?"

3. You think when Chris Brown was whooping her ass, he was looking good while doing it? I could see him putting on some music and spinning around smacking her with each rotation, moonwalking on her face, and giving new meaning to the term "Hammer Time." People still do the hammer, right?
