The story and visual presentation of the game is really appealing to me. I wish Capcom went the MGS4 route and went all the way with their controls. Its a breaking point for me and the game... maybe I'll watch a friend play through it
Also, go to bed Chris

He has a point flanker22. Many people, including me, are turned off by this game. I had high expectations when I downloaded the demo and now this game went from a must buy to a possible rental. Seriously, this game is an ACTION game not SURVIAVAL HOROR! These controls don't fit what the series has become now.
The graphics, zombies, and story was why I was going to get this game. But if the controls are as annoying and frustrating as the demo, then no thanks. Capcom really shot themselves in the foot with this one. I'm betting they will release a patch that allows you to change to a modern setup

Hey mgsrocks1, it wouldn't have been too difficult for them to have shot themselves in the foot considering you can't move it while you're aiming.

There is and never was a such thing as a survival horror game. Yes, this is an action game. Does it need to play like Gears in order to be an Action game, or isn't Gears more of a shooter? If you're not convinced, why doesn't Zelda play more like God of War? Aren't they both action games?

I disagree about Capcom needing to change the controls. They are sticking to the proven Resident Evil control scheme and any true fan of RE would want the controls to stay the same. Why turn Resident Evil into Gears of War? RE is not meant to be played like a shooter.

did so many of you not play re4? the game kicked ass. I dont know about you guys but when i was playing the demo i was pretty tense the entire time because of the low ammo and tough bad guys. And that dude with the chainsaw was about as scary as anything else in the series. May not be that "WOOOOO SCARY!" pop out and grab your leg scary, but i was pretty scared of this walking tank

Seriously. Like DiL said, the controls are almost exactly the same as RE4, and that was lauded as one of the best games of last generation. Granted you're not going to get anything near the improved and perfected RE4 Wii controls on the 360 or PS3, but this is pretty much the same as those found in the GC/PS2 versions.
So, what's the problem? Enemies are still slow, ammo is still scarce, and this is still Resident Evil. All they really did was throw some Co-op action into the RE4 formula and change the setting to a different continent. And it looks amazing.

I never liked the controls in the previous RE games either.
I just don't find the controls and gameplay of RE5 to be very interesting. End of story

You have to wonder when people are going to figure out that RE4 was good because it evolved the gameplay from the old games with even worse controls. RE4 was changed drastically over the old games and it rejuvenated a series that was starting to dwindle in face of competition like Silent Hill. Change is good, Capcom needs to figure out why RE4 was so successful.

@ChooChooCharlie : The reason why RE4 was one of the best games last generation was because of the over haul of the controls! Resident Evil became less frustrating to play which is why so many people loved it. Now after seeing games like Dead Space, the controls just don't belong in RE5.
The game should have been a third person shooter, seeing how RE5 had a similar style to Metal Gear Solid 4 and action sequences similar to Gears of War. You can tell Capcom was influenced by Gears of War. I understand your point of fans wanting RE5 to have the same Resident Evil feel to it. What about new comers? Why exclude so many gamers from a franchise simply to keep it

I say Jill too, mainly due to the tombstone. I'll laugh if it's a new character though.

Sherry. Too short for Claire (Why would it be?) or Ada. Furthermore the boat fight scene vs the big monster if a rip off of the fight with Father Dagon at the end of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners

Anyone remember a while back when Capcom released a trailer where, at the end, a blonde girl in some kind of liquid woke up? Well I'm ready to bet my Resident evil fanboyship that bird mask is actually Alexia from RE:CVX.

Holy. Shit. That looks bad-ass. At first, I had some reservations about this game, especially after my friend played the 360 demo (f*** exclusivity) and told me about the shite controls. After trying the demo myself on PS3, I didn't think it was half bad, if you look past the fact that you can't run and gun like a typical TPS. I believe this trailer alone has subverted most of my assumptions about this game. Bring it on, Capcom.

I feel the same way. A friend and I tried the demo on 360 and it was a definite meh moment. But the cheesy Resident Evil stories are just so much fun. The real problem with the demo is it kind of threw you into the action without any lead-in. I really want to give this another shot.

Nikonov, I'm with you. I almost guarentee it's Claire. Who else from the series would Chris know? Rebecca? What a waste of a plot twist :P Yeah, it's definitely got to be Claire. I'd have said Sherry until I saw this trailer. He never met her. Though I'm still banking on her being the one in the test tube from the older trailer.

Theres always Jill, i mean she's presumed dead from the tomb stone in an earlier trailer, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for her to not be dead.

People who complain about controls in any sort of shooter on console have no room to talk about bad controls. Any shooter on console has poor controls. What people are talking about here is the fact that they've never played a Resident Evil before in their lives and don't know what they're talking about.

I don't care about the controls as much as I do the enemies coming at me at a slow pace...due to the controls...
Would be great if they replaced every villager with Crimson Heads and Hunters (or their ambition/speed at least) give the player a bit more movement (like walking while aiming/reloading) then the game just might fit with the words "survival horror" instead of "shooting gallery".
But what do I know with my silly opinions, I'm just another gosh darn troll right?

They come at you at a slow pace because they're practically zombies. Do they need to be Crimson Heads for this to be a fun game?
Does the fact that Link can't do combos make Zelda outdated in comparison to God of War or Ninja Gaiden?

My girlfriend, a non-gamer, held her own pretty well with RE5's controls. Oddly enough, she didn't even like using two sticks so I put the controls on RE4. Lots of non-gamers don't understand the whole "two stick" thing, oddly enough.

They aren't. They're coming at you at a slow pace because it's a Resident Evil game.
Again, you're not complaining about the controls, you're complaining that you've never played a Resident Evil game before OR you're complaining that you've never gotten used to the controls. Surprise surprise it's actually more realistic than moving around and shooting things.
Go look for action elsewhere. This is a suspenseful game.

You don't understand here tho, suspenseful =/= slow. Enemies that hesitate to kill you =/= suspenseful. Standing still while shooting these slow enemies =/= suspenseful.
It was forgiven before, but now the genre has moved past that. More specifically RE pushed itself into more action territory with RE4 and 5. But it kept it's "classic RE formula" which doesn't really cut it for an action game.
Enemies actually wanting to kill you = suspenseful, downright piss-pants inducing.

Also, as a RE fan, I'm mostly complaining how the gameplay hasn't evolved very much. Ai and controls are the same from RE4. I mean they had 4 years to make better enemies and a newer fresher control scheme to compensate for them.
They have axes, I love that. Do they look like they really want to kill me? No, not really.
