Resistance Retribution connects the PSP and PS3 systems in a brand new way. See what new content you unlock in the game's "Infected" mode, available for those that own both the upcoming Resistance Retribution and PS3's Resistance 2. Fans of the franchise will earn a brand new mode of playing, access new areas and weapons and get some new story bits as well.
Another new feature is the ability to play the game with two analog sticks ... via DualShock 3 controls on the PS3. If you're unfamiliar with how this connectivity works, take a look at the video after the break to see how you'll be able to connect these two games.
Nice idea, but I hate the setup. Why not just release an USB bluetooth adapter, that sits on like of the PSP (like Talkman MIC). With the PSP's small screen it sucks to connect the system with the PS3 to use Dualshock controller. I myself couldn't use this feature as connecting my PSP to my PS3 would be uncomfortably and unpractical, due to my PS3 being "hidden" behind my monitor and on top of my X-Fi external console.
I don't use a TV - my PS3 is connected to a HDMI monitor - which doesn't support the PSP. btw, Monitors are much better than TVs, imo - no remotes and auto-toggles power with input signal :-)
my TV does that. it has VGA, HDMI, Component, S-Video, and Composite and outputs at a nice 1080i. LCD HDTV's are essentially the same as computer monitors in my opinion, just more flexible with the sources. sure you can get computer monitors with MUCH higher resolutions but that's not the point.
My TV is HDMI x3, VGA, DVi, Composite, 1080p, 3.1 incorporated, has an auto turn off, dims light when its not used, but the console its on. and its my new PS3+PC monitor :P
Are you retarded? You go on vacation and connect to the internet on your psp and play games like monsters, eden, any ps1 game and all the other ps3 games that support remote play from MILES AWAY. Say you have a 10 GB collection of music. How are you gunna get that on your psp? You cant. But you can put it on your ps3 and stream it all from there to your psp
im not a huge fan of it either. i only really ever used it to set up downloads on the PSN Store while i was in another room in the house. sure i like the idea of being able to access my network on the go too but i could never configure my network to do it. (i consider myself very computer savvy but im lost when it comes to networking lol)
Remote play is awesome for playing those old PS1 games people have lieing around that looks like crap on an HDTV. Ive actually restarted FFVII on the PSP through remote play.
I've not touched the PSP or DS since last year either (except on some a vacation or two). I kinda of want to sell the PSP but also don't want to either. *sighs*
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Remote Play allows you to play supported games on your PSP through any Wi-Fi connection, providing your PS3 is set up correctly? The only time I've tried it was at my house, which is why I ask. The reason I'll agree that it's a pretty bad gimmick, is that I've never seen or heard of it working very well. The only time I tried it was with Bionic Commando Rearmed, and there was horrible game lag that made it unplayable... and if it's unplayable, what's the point?
It's also a pain to set up. I followed the instructions to be able to turn the PS3 on with the PSP through Remote Play, and it just didn't work. I followed the directions, turning this option on, connecting the PSP correctly, and could not turn the thing on with my PSP. I thought it would be neat to start some downloads while I'm out and about so that they are finished when I get home, but I never got that feature to work.
All in all, I think Remote Play is a terrific idea. If it worked well, and I had a wireless connection at work, I could totally see myself playing games like PJM or BC:R on my breaks at work. Perhaps the concept will improve next generation, just like online enabled gaming on consoles improved from last gen to this gen.
I love to watch the stuff I've recorded, or Live TV in the Bath, or on my ciggy breaks at work.
I do have issues with Remote play, ever had a timeout which leaves your PS3 on at home and your PSP unable to connect to it? - Pain in the arse, specially when you do it at 9am, leaving your PS3 running till you get home from work!
Apart from that "occassional" issue, I think it's great.
To anyone having trouble setting up their remote play, there is a recently new option on your PS3 about allowing the PSP to turn it on - it was possibly added to the PS3 firmware after the set up guide was written or something.
I can understand being upset about certain features being excluded unless you have the PS3 as well. But here is my question to you: You were going to buy the game until you heard about said features, but because these said features aren't going to be accessible to you, you might not buy it? If you are being provided exactly what you thought you were going to get before you read this article, and you were probably going to purchase it then. why would your purchase decision have changed after reading this news?
Because to be honest, if that is the only feature to be "unlocked" then there's no reason to buy the game for 40 or more, so at least for now i'm not interested until price down or if a game save file can unlock the feature then i will buy as soon the game comes available. But is my opinion and money, not yours so don't worry.
It's fine if you aren't going to buy the game, I don't really care, but I can't let flawed logic go unnoticed. This required that you correct me if I'm wrong or missing something. Assuming you were going to buy the game before this post, there is no other reason other than to use your money to protest something mentioned in this article to change your buying decision based on this article. If you were going to buy it before based upon the features you knew were in the game, this article doesn't change said list of features; you're still getting everything you were getting before. therefore, the logic doesn't add up.
It would be like if I wanted to buy Mario Galaxy. I reserved the game in full, knowing very well the game has 10 levels (arbitrary number of course, roll with it for discussion's sake). Some article comes out saying that if you pair your DS with New Super Mario Bros., you will get an 11th level in Super Mario Galaxy. I'm still getting the 10 levels that I reserved the game in full for. Do you catch my drift?
Of course I'm not judging you for a purchasing decision, but flawed logic really baffles me, and I'm really just asking why. Either there's something I'm missing, or your decision has been swayed by something that should really not have swayed it logically. Unless I am missing some sort of important piece, like you were only going to buy the game if it had unlockables that didn't require the PS3, or you want to protest the act of giving players additional content for pairing their handheld and console devices.
This is really cool, and I think if Sony is going to talk about PSP - PS3 connectivity so much, they should push devs to do more like this! The combination of video out and Dual Shock 3 support is awesome! There are definitely games that I have on my PSP that I would play on my big screen while I'm at home.
Unfortunately for me, I still have the fatty :( I've held on to it for all this time because it has the custom firmware with tons of NES games, yet I never play them! I'm about to let the vicious update schedule of the PSP platform get the best of me, and upgrade the firmware to an official one, just so I can play demos like Phantasy Star Portable without having to go through the hassle of researching the newest release by Dark Alex.
