Codemasters publishing Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, coming in April
In the weeks following the fateful Activision Blizzard merger, a great deal of concern arose from the gaming community as a number of anticipated titles effectively lost their publisher. However, while most fretting was focused on Ghostbusters and Brütal Legend, the suddenly jeopardized low-brow antics of Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust went undiscussed, and largely uneulogized.
Don't feel too guilty, you neglectful so-and-so -- Codemasters' casual games branch Funsta has apparently picked publishing rights for the title. According to the company's site, the adult content-rich adventure title is due out in April for the PC, PS3 and 360, and has been granted a totally shocking Mature rating by the ESRB. Ever the survivor, it seems the Leisure Suit Larry franchise will live to sleaze another day.

No Wii version? Damn you Codemasters! Another wasted waggle oportunity.
ugg.tryptophan @ Feb 21st 2009 6:24PM
beat me to it +1
Ridgecity @ Feb 21st 2009 8:30PM
I think the money-shot mini game would be to explicit for the Wii, at least I can keep this away from the living room.
I'm glad they when right to the edge with M rating there are only 2 games that should never go below M rating: GTA and LSL even if they are really not for mature people, like Brain Training feels.
flanker22 @ Feb 21st 2009 10:00PM
whats up with larry he's supposed to look like a total sleeze this guy looks like he just a harmless stoner.
xenocidic @ Feb 22nd 2009 7:30AM
that's larry's newphew
LaughingTarget @ Feb 21st 2009 6:13PM
Will it be a brilliant title like the originals or will it be just like a National Lampoon direct to DVD movie from the last couple of years . . . being vulgar just to be vulgar.
I'm not holding my breath that they'll resurrect classic Larry and I will continue to pretend this doesn't exist.
sam @ Feb 21st 2009 6:40PM
Well, the creator of the original games didn't have anything to do with it, so, yeah, probably not.

(I actually didn't like the originals either, but if you did, it appears there's no connection at all with the newer ones.)
NoughtSoClever @ Feb 21st 2009 7:50PM
How can they call him 'Leisure Suit Larry' when he no longer wears a 'Leisure Suit'? It's like making a new Alvin and the Chipmunks title, only with badgers.
smcn @ Feb 22nd 2009 11:59AM
Furthermore, why is it "Alvin and the Chipmunks"? Isn't Alvin himself in fact a Chipmunk? I move the name be changed to "Alvin the Chipmunk and the other two Chipmunks" All in favor...
Bradford @ Feb 22nd 2009 12:55PM
Or it's like making a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, but without mutated ninja turtles. Just Teenage Turtles.
Cash @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:51PM
Judging by the above photo, I'm guessing it's going to be more brainless and boring then the last "Sequel."
The last true Larry game was "Love for Sail."
pasta @ Feb 21st 2009 6:22PM
Who is that in the picture and what has he done to Larry?
ugg.tryptophan @ Feb 21st 2009 6:24PM
its the anime larry, and he looks...peculiar
Mr Khan @ Feb 21st 2009 6:46PM
He looks very drunk, or otherwise inebriated
Lord Negatron @ Feb 21st 2009 8:16PM
Exactly, i don't think im too fond of this "hip" Larry with bangs and highlights.
;P
Ridgecity @ Feb 21st 2009 8:35PM
I think that's his son.
xenocidic @ Feb 22nd 2009 7:30AM
nephew
rohan @ Feb 21st 2009 6:23PM
did any1 buy the other one?
Evan @ Feb 22nd 2009 9:15AM
Which other one? There are like 7 other Leisure Suit Larry games.
cafecito @ Feb 21st 2009 6:25PM
That's definetely not Larry Laffer, but... I just hope the game's worth a check. I had fun with the last one even if it was technically below average.
I do miss the man himself and his 80s feeling adventures tho :(
wonderweazel @ Feb 21st 2009 6:36PM
I would like to buy a lubber.
DjFIL @ Feb 21st 2009 6:36PM
I really hope it won't be the mini game fest like magna cum laude was.
Rob @ Feb 21st 2009 7:58PM
I loved the other LSL games, but not the last one. I want a plain old point and click please.
One thing that I never thought I'd say until the last one, Al Lowe must've been a moderating influence.
BlackBeltJones @ Feb 21st 2009 6:45PM
I wish they would change the character art, he looks half stoned and half retarded.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Feb 21st 2009 7:07PM
so it accurately reflects the games target audience?
AustinAM @ Feb 21st 2009 7:16PM
@Moptimus Slime:
That was the best comment I have ever read. Literally.
The1stMJC @ Feb 21st 2009 6:54PM
I can finally sleep at night knowing Larry will still be making games.
/sarcasm
zuburi @ Feb 21st 2009 7:06PM
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuughhh
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Feb 21st 2009 7:11PM
why is it that every Codemasters game seems to be a racing game (DiRT, GRiD, etc.) or semi-erotic garbage (this, Onechanbara)?
Mr Khan @ Feb 21st 2009 7:47PM
Did Codemasters have anything to do with Oneechanbara? I thought that was all D3
NoughtSoClever @ Feb 21st 2009 7:55PM
Codemasters is the publisher. They didn't make the game. They also published LOtR Online, DnD Online, Overlord, Operation Flashpoint, Jericho, and Turning Point.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Feb 21st 2009 7:58PM
my bad, I thought I read somewhere that CodeMasters had something to do with
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Feb 21st 2009 8:01PM
bah, fucking a. Right after I hit Add Comment, I see that I am right
kompulsive @ Feb 21st 2009 8:27PM
a great company taken control of the larry series? oh hell yes.
lordwindowlicker @ Feb 21st 2009 8:52PM
Yet another piece of trash to sweep away from the grave of Sierra Online. At least they haven't yet desecrated corpses of Space Quest, or Quest for Glory... yet.
Rest in peace Larry Laffer... We'll never know what happened after the end of Larry 7.
steve @ Feb 21st 2009 9:03PM
There are two feelings I have.
1. Initially: Finally a new LSL game (I've been a fan since I had part 1 on my first PC (286)).
2. About .5msec later: Oh wait the last one was a lame mini game fest with larry as the marketing factor, but the game was not even at all remotely LSL (just mini games with crude humor). LSL games are adventure (type and move, or click and move depending on which era) and crude humor. Anyone can do crude humor, its a shame that adventure gaming died with the advent of the 3dfx card.
But I will still probably at least check it out.
Lord Negatron @ Feb 21st 2009 9:20PM
I agree.
Rented LSL for Xbox(orig.) years ago, and still wonder what did they do? Ugh...
As for checking it out, that will have to wait until its well out and i hear what people have to say.
zuburi @ Feb 21st 2009 9:23PM
The thing I don't understand is that the market seems like it's ripe for an adventure gaming renaissance, yet nobody is taking advantage of it. Why doesn't Tim Schafer or Jane Jensen or Ron Gilbert or Al Lowe attempt to get funding for a short, cheap PSN/XBL title? If it's competitively priced, I bet it would sell enough to warrant future titles. It seems to me that releasing cheap episodic adventure games on home systems could be an untapped goldmine.
Sisyphus @ Feb 21st 2009 9:47PM
Well, there's Strong Bad on Wiiware. Isn't that coming to PSN/XBLA, or am I thinking of Wallace and Grommit. Either way, more adventure gaming is a good thing. But Brutal Legend has Tim Schafer wrapped up at the moment. No clue what the other guys are doing.
Tiptup300 @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:58AM
If you take out the combat, wouldn't KOTOR kinda be like that?
Yan @ Feb 21st 2009 9:32PM
ahh i remember playing the ps2 one. i uncensored it and burnt to dvdr. it was nice seeing the girls naked except the whole game sucks. i wonder what LSL Box Office Bust will be about
Dtplaytek @ Feb 21st 2009 9:52PM
i love these games...
MrKlorox @ Feb 21st 2009 10:54PM
Without Al Lowe, LSL is a corpse. I wish Al would make a lite adventure game for digital distro. He's proven that he can make a fun adventure game without Larry (look at Freddy Pharkas and Torin's Quest). He just needs the support and funding.
CH3BURASHKA @ Feb 21st 2009 10:55PM
And to think that I didn't name my newborn son Jason... a missed opportunity...
t_m @ Feb 21st 2009 11:06PM
LSL never lived up to its promise anyway... wasn't ever remotely naughty, wasn't that funny, didn't have particularly good gameplay.
I guess its hard to make a "mature" game aimed at 12 year olds.
lordwindowlicker @ Feb 22nd 2009 2:16AM
sorry, but the new Larry game doesn't represent the franchise. The classics were never "aimed at 12 year olds".
ducttapeBigSexy @ Feb 21st 2009 11:12PM
As a big fan of the original games (just look at my avatar :P ), I'm not even interested in these new, Al Lowe-less Larry games. It would be like making a MGS game without Kojima or a Mario game without Miyamoto. Can it be done? Yes. Will it be as awesome? No.
Jason @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:57AM
i miss space quest.....
Bowser Rogozhin @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:55AM
I've only played the PS2 version. I don't think I'll play another game in this series.
J Dubs @ Feb 22nd 2009 11:26AM
Without Al Lowe involved, I'm not even going to bother. That man was the soul of Larry.
