During the Activision Q4 2008 earnings conference call earlier this month, CEO Mike Griffith laid out the company's predictions for 2009 hardware sales. According to Griffith, Activision predicts that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will increase their installed bases by 8 million units between North America and Europe. The company expects the Wii installed base for the same regions to increase by over 16 million units. Without specifying platforms, Griffith's stated that Activision expects handhelds to increase by more than 21 million units.
Prepare the bunker. Grab the supplies. It's time to get underground. The day Nintendo turns on Skynet and Wii Balance Boards begin enslaving their masters is fast approaching. Unless the humans fight back, of course.

I can't find a reason to switch it on.. only play Wii Golf, Boxing or bowling.. I used the Game Cube part more than anything.. this year, I've had a round of 9 holes, & switched it on to add to my network.. had mine since launch, had about 3 months use..

I used to play my Wii, way back when it had, at the very least, a slow-but-steady flow of games. These last eight months have been really bad for the Wii, worse than I've ever seen for a main console. At least we have a bunch of good games on the horizon.
"didn't you know: it's not about great games and their great gameplay. it's all about them sales."
You're gonna find so many drones on this site who adhere to that kind of flawed logic it isn't funny.
"on another note: whats up with that "Xbox 360 will be played more than the PS3" statement? this isn't 2007."
You mean 2006.

Interesting statement that the xbox 360 will be played more than the Wii or PS3 combined... I would agree, providing your 360 actually works. As for me, I have sent mine in 8 times for different problems (4 RRoD, 2 DVD drive failures, 2 freezing screen problems), and am fed up with it by now. And its an Elite with Falcon chips btw.
As for my 20GB PS3 (now a 320GB), that has gotten way more use than my 360 ever will, simply for the fact that it works.
As for the Wii, and everyone who is single should listen to this one: Girls love the Wii. I am serious, if you go on a date and want to "seal the deal", have a game of Strip-Bowling, it works like a charm.

Who has enough time to become any good at the online x-box games? The only people I know that are good at the online x-box games are single, and they will stay that way!

It's not a huge deal every companies making their money back... Nintendo's making their money back in hardware with $60 controllers and a $250 console that's a lot cheaper to produce...
Sony & Microsoft are making it off of Software because they are moving a lot more games than the Wii...
So in the end all this b.s with who sales more and who has the most exclusives doesn't matter. All the companies will be releasing new consoles the next time around, there'll be better games than we're playing now and everyone will play them...

@Plat:
Nintendo isn't just selling consoles: DS and Wii games accounted for almost half of the US games sold.
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21968
And among console games sold, Wii games took the top 4 spots in the US.
That said, you're right: the same players will be back next time around. As gamers, we should be glad for the competition.

When you look at install base vs. # of copies sold for most games, the Wii doesn't hold up percentage wise to the other two systems. Yeah, the Wii and DS help move a lot of games, but as far as the Wii goes, the only reason you're seeing as many games being moved is because there's so many Wii's out there.

Back in the fall, data was showing that the Wii and PS3 attachment rates were almost identical. (Off by like two tenths of a game or something.)

And this matters how? Copies sold is copies sold. I didn't realize special prizes were handed out for attach rates. Let's stop with the desperate fanboy arguments and just deal with the facts, which won't change how much you play and enjoy the console of your choice.
Nintendo has a philosophy different from Sony and MS and has succeeded at it.
I'll say one thing in Nintendo's favor, which I'm glad they punched a big fat hole in Microsoft's assumption that the first console to market and first to 10 million "wins" the generation because I think gamers would be the poorer if such an assumption were held as true. We'd see more poorly designed and manufactured products in the rush to hit the market first. Instead, Nintendo has proven what the PS2 did--that the most successful console isn't necessarily the most powerful or the first to market. Instead, companies can do different things to make a console succeed.
Other than that, I want healthy competition.

I know exactly what you mean. It hasn't had anything new (that's good) in a long while. Luckily for those of us with a Wii Madworld is coming out in March.

I've actually been in the same boat too. Nothing new on the little white box since Sonic Unleashed, but that trend will end with MadWorld, and continue with one or more new games a month straight through the end of the year, unless Nintendo completely blows their holiday lineup (which is possible, but doubtful for two years in a row. They simply have to have something)
DS picked up the slack neatly, however. Fire Emblem SD is good fun

People have different tastes in games. I don't want a light gun game so House of the dead is a no go and though Deadly Creatures looks decent it's not something I would want to buy for full price especially with Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 releasing in the next few weeks. The last Wii games we bought were Wario shake it and mario party.

It's possible but I am not so sure that will happen in 2009.
With the PS3 having the best lineup of exclusives and a well timed price drop I can see it increasing it's sales by quite a bit. I can also see the 360 selling like gangbusters with it's super low price and expected price drop for it's Pro Version.
It's a safe bet that the Wii will sell the most consoles but I highly doubt it will outsell the 360 & PS3 combined. That's just my two cents.
I think all three consoles *could* have a healthy year.

It's very possible, though it would have to be worldwide sales, and it won't be by all that much
By summer the Wii will be more than PS360 combined, and it can only move upward from there, considering that they still aren't meeting demand in America, they've got Monster Hunter 3 coming for Japan, and they are perfectly poised for a price drop as soon as they get the American market saturated, aside from Wii Sports Resort and a good supply of core games in the pipeline, as well as existing, unsatisfied demand for Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit. There's a good chance that either or both of those games will outsell anything else released this year

I was just thinking about how the PS3 would probably make its way back up there thanks to the FFXIII titles coming out for it (360 too, but we're talking about Japan here), but then I remembered that the Wii has not only MH3, but DQ10 hitting it.

I think your underestimating the effect of Yakuza 3, Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5 and Halo Wars. There is no way the Wii will have more consoles world wide than the PS360 by this summer.

The Conduit
Monster Hunter 3
FFCC: Crystal Bearers was pointed to a summer release on Japan
GhostBusters The VideoGame Wii version getting the best reviews of the 3 current gen consoles
Punch out
Sin & Punishment 2. Which is more close to Fall than summer, but then again, they state 2009, not summer 2009
DQ10
Who knows how Dead Space Extraction will do
Dude, there are a couple of WiiGames that might do the trick. Besides, whoever is interested in the games you stated already has a PS360, while many who had sold their Wii had said to buy another ffor many of this upcomming Wii. Which mean, more WiiSales

I thought Bobby Kotick was Activision's CEO? Or do they have a CEO for Activision, and a higher CEO for Activision Blizzard?

According to Activision's website, Kotick is "Director; President and Chief Executive Officer", while Griffith is "President and Chief Executive Officer of Activision Publishing"

Personally I would like to see Nintendo eat a giant piece of humble pie. Maybe they could regain some of the 'gaming' focus that made me a fan all these years.
My Wii has been unplugged and in storage since November. I beg Nintendo to give me a reason to reinstate. I'm BEGGING.
Also: This "MS IS WAY BETTERZ THAN SONYZ" shit is ridiculous. I wish we could have an adult, respectful discussion on this site, instead of incessant amounts of circle-jerk logic and fanboy idiocy.

nintendo ,No, third party companies gave me enough reasons to more than replug my wii.
You wont replug it if:
You hate your wii/nintendo
You hate to buy games
You want PS3 /x360/Pc games that wont specifically come for WII(see part 2).
If i hated my 360 i wouldnt play it no matter how many games came for it either.
I mean there are loads of good unique interesting wii games atm to buy that are exclusive for it,and loads coming. The library is huge after removing all the shovelware and releases are pretty plentiful and they are happening waaay more often than 2 years ago.Id agree with the comment aeons ago but i pay attention and actually give a shot to the release titles, and id be hypocrite to say that i cant find a reason to play my wii in 2k9.
Regarding PS3 launches like Killzone2(another shooter woopedoo), or RE5(which im not so hyped for since its maker is not working on it and the demo wasnt really smoth), last year MG4(great game) and GT4 launched and they didnt hurt Nintendo one bit,and last year nintendo had less releases than this year has scheduled.I dont know how or why it should be different. And Halo wars?it catters other market, and is not gonna be as popular as the main franchise. And the reviews arent particularly favoring it.Again, Halo 3 release didnt hurt nintendo and we expect a strategy spin off to do it?...Anyway lets try to be objective here.Nintendo sucks-MS sucks-Ps3 sucks are no arguments here.

Okay, amidst your terribly written and sloppy post, I gather that you a.) Just completely agreed with what I said, and b.) you don't know how to read or write properly.
If I hated Nintendo, I wouldn't have bought a Wii. Nor would I care. I'm not a troll, and I am remaining as objective as possible. This is exactly the kind of BS response that keeps me from reading this site. I am continually unimpressed with the games coming out for the Wii. That's my opinion, its not hate-speech. Since when did Nintendo remove all the shovelware? When did that happen? Do you live in an alternate universe? 'Unique' and 'interesting' don't equate to 'good' and 'worth buying'. Hitler was 'unique' and 'interesting'. That doesn't make me want to become a Nazi.
You are clearly misinformed and misguided.

I haven't played my Wii in forever. The last game I played was City Folk and I got bored of that after a week. On the other hand, I play my 360 all the time. I just got back from playing GTAIV and Left 4 Dead. I play my 360 everyday. Xbox Live is icredible. Wii's online fails. Friend codes? Stupid idea. The 360 keeps on coming out with tons of great games. The Wii does not. The Wii only has about 8 games worth playing. So what if it sold more? Almost every Wii owner I know hasn't played theirs in forever. Anyway, the Wii has turned me off of Nintendo. I label myself as a 360 Fanboy now. I'm done with Nintendo and the fact that they come out with a good game once every 5 years. I'm only keeping my Wii for Zelda. I may not even buy Nintendo's next console. I'm a gamer, I'm not satisfied with a GOOD game coming out twice a year. The 360 has so much support, features, graphics, online, etc. "Wii is just a novelty" couldn't be any truer.
