TF2 Scout update includes new bat, energy drink, 3 additional maps
The update will also introduce a few new maps to the TF2 mix -- Arena_Watchtower, an expansive map with a focus on long, sniper-friendly sightlines; CP_Junction, a tight-quarters map that's more suited for the game's explosive classes; and CP_Egypt, a "visually striking", Dustbowl-esque control point map. The update will also patch in some gameplay tweaks to the pre-existing CP_Fastlane map.
Oh, and the newly updated Scouts will also be able to unlock their 35 new class-specific achievements, which we've posted after the jump. Valve should be dropping further info on the pending patch tomorrow -- we'll keep our single-earphone-covered ear to the ground to let you know when the final tease drops.

I'm kinda confused on the energy drink. Does it increase the speed, or let you dodge bullets easier? They aren't quite clear.
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:26PM
Both...
The Baron @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:55PM
Think of it as a shield that soaks up a certain amount of damage and a speed boost.
So basically perfect for getting past sentries (I hope)
Shignami @ Feb 22nd 2009 8:22PM
It gives the scout a speed boost and a 66% chance for all bullet-based weapons to miss (shotguns, miniguns, rifles, pistols) but at the cost of a loss of double jumping capabilities and a slowdown effect for a short time thereafter.
Cj @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:10PM
And the 360 update is still no where in site.
I fear the same will happen to L4D.
bvhj @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:11PM
Boo hoo
ice~ @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:16PM
Boo hoo? Don't go making it sound like we're whining for no reason, we payed $60 to get TF2 and the community just died, nobody plays it anymore because valve hasn't updated it. It's quite annoying, especially since I bought TF2 on my PC when it was $10 but it runs like crap :( (though thats my fault, but still)
Obie @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:19PM
Yeah so far L4D for the PC has been patched for 2 months now, yet the 360 is still patchless. But then again, I think that is more MS fault rather than Valve.
ice~ @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:23PM
yea well if MS would actually let Valve make free updates, this wouldn't be a problem. When it comes to this sort of stuff I really question my love for MS :/
Lee @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:25PM
You love Microsoft?
Batman @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:49PM
Maybe a L4D patch will come along at least no later than the new content pack. Also, we know that stuff is coming at the same time as the PC version. I prefer L4D over TF2 anyways, so I am indifferent anymore about TF2.
ice~ @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:05PM
Yea I love MS, but I also love Oreos and they're wonderful blend of chocolate cookies and white cream filling, does it really make a difference? :P
chispito @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:32PM
Don't blame the software for the OS's problems.
chispito @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:34PM
Actually, I mean for the "platform's" problems.
Also, you didn't pay $60 for TF2, you paid $60 for HL2, Episodes 1 and 2, Portal, and TF2.
Batman @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:03PM
Chispy, true. We did not pay 60 just for TF2, but it is the only multiplayer component of the game set, so some play it more or less than others and it is worth more to some than others. Great game, btw. Orange box is sweet.
cloud858rk @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:22PM
"No one plays it anymore" is completely false. Hundreds of people play it, in fact I just got off 360 TF2 just now.
Cj @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:24PM
L4D got like 2 updates but just stability and glitches. Nothing added, the patch to balance versus hasnt even got certified yet.
Syke @ Feb 23rd 2009 2:29AM
Blame Microsoft. Valve wanted to release all the updates for free just like the PC version, but MS demanded that they make 360 owners play. So Valve is waiting for all the updates to warrants a package you'd pay for.
At least something remains a PC exclusive these days. No GTA 4 DLC for the PC owners, not to mention the port was terrible and it runs like shit on monster rigs even at moderate settings, and PC owners of Fallout 3 are forced to purchase 1600 MS points to get the Anchorage DLC which only costs 800. Then you're left with a spare 800 you aren't going to use and a thumb up your ass.
JerJer @ Feb 23rd 2009 2:38AM
they forced my hand!
dirr @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:24PM
you guys are missing the egypt description where it mentions the scatter gun (briefly), you're killing me larry!
chispito @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:37PM
Yeah I saw that too. The Scattergun update involves jumping of some sort.
My guess: it provides small rocket jump like affect when pointed down, but can't crit
Zak Canard @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:52PM
You mean the Force-a-Nature? From what's been leaked elsewhere it's apparently the replacement scattergun with a knockback effect on both the person it is aimed at as well as the scout. It probably also causes damage to the scout like rocket/sticky jumps do to soldiers and demomen.
Also I can't wait to get some cart racing in if that picture above is accurate.
CaramelZappa @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:29PM
I was wondering if you guys were going to end up covering this. It was announced almost a week ago.
Anyways, I'm pretty excited. It's gonna be a good time to play pyro.
Bakkster @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:11PM
It's going to be an even better time for me to play scout and kill all the pyros by staying out of their range.
Heavies, on the other hand, are more difficult with Natascha...
CaramelZappa @ Feb 22nd 2009 8:41PM
Engineer will also be fun.
Fuze9 @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:33PM
Yess! I was hoping so much for the scout to have some sort of "stun" effect weapon. Here's to scout/sniper team-ups!
JerJer @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:35PM
there's a little glimpse of the new weapon "Force A Nature" in there btw
WorMzy @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:30PM
Indeed, and apparently it's going to have a blast affect.
The Baron @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:47PM
I really hope it's a leaf blower
Donald @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:56PM
"A Year to Remember: Get 2004 lifetime kills."
I see what they did there
CH3BURASHKA @ Feb 22nd 2009 3:59PM
Finally; and when are we gonna get a new Meet The vid? Those are awesome.
Not to sound ungrateful; thanks Valve!
Dr. @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:08PM
I would expect either Monday's or Tuesday's update will include a Meet The video. Possibly also the TF2 comic hinted at earlier this week.
Kenny @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:05PM
Free stuff for a game months after it's released? Valve know's how to create customer loyalty. Most other companies would make you pay for all of this.
cloud858rk @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:24PM
If only they'd hurry up and release this stuff for free on 360.
Kenny @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:40PM
Unfortunately this isn't something they have complete control over.
XGM @ Feb 22nd 2009 7:03PM
Stuff like that made me buy games from Valve without hesitation, still impressed with steam, updates and new content. Kudos to Valve !!!
Joel Caylor @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:22PM
That Egypt map is a user created map. I played on that map a year ago.
Einhanderkiller @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:01PM
Yeah, it's a good map. They're modified slightly when they become official maps, though.
Foetoid @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:22PM
I'm going to have to get this game and see what all the fuss is about.
WorMzy @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:22PM
Why is this being posted on Sunday, when this information has been around since Friday?
chispito @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:36PM
Yeah I saw that too. The Scattergun update involves jumping of some sort.
My guess: it provides small rocket jump like affect when pointed down, but can't crit.
Spike @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:38PM
probably has only 2 shots, like an elephant gun
Lee @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:07PM
Only a rampant elephant murderer would know that.
chispito @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:30PM
Heh. I got a chuckle when I looked in my inbox and saw:
Spike has replied...
Lee has replied...
WorMzy @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:34PM
Or anyone who's ever watched Tremors. :D
SpikeDelight @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:43PM
You followin' me cameraguy?
TheDrizzle @ Feb 22nd 2009 4:49PM
Plz valve just let MS charge for the DLC. I think the fact that they're not releasing the update is killing me more than the fact that I have to pay for the update. C'mon valve, the community is dieing and i'm getting tired of hackers.
cloud858rk @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:26PM
No. Charging. Ever.
It's free on PC, there is reason in hell for them to charge for it.
Geo @ Feb 22nd 2009 5:41PM
WHY WON'T THEY DO THIS FOR X360?!?!?!?
WorMzy @ Feb 22nd 2009 6:35PM
Because real gamers use a PC for FPS'?
