BioWare community representatives are telling players not to delete their original Mass Effect saves, giving the impression that they will affect something in the recently announced sequel. Dropping a tiny nugget of information in the intergalactic freak-out (over the alleged death of hero Commander Shepard) taking place on the BioWare forums, no less than three employees have made sure to point out that players should not erase previous save files.
No further details about the game were mentioned, and this does not guarantee Shepard will survive to fight in the sequel. Worst case scenario: The game may use the save file information to show Shepard in a space coffin.

They would never mislead us into by saying the main character of the series is going to die, then said character doesn't die, they're just "believed" to have died by the in game NPCs.

Bungie said for a while that the "Believe" campaign was never considered canon. The production studio was never given access to any of the Halo 3 plot elements and were basically told to just make a kickass ad campaign for the game

ME2 hasn't been announced for the PS3. It's "multi-platform", which could mean just the PC and 360. In fact, given the developers' history, I think the chances of a PS3 port aren't as high as some hopeful PS3 owners would like to believe.
(I own both the 360 and PS3.)

maybe, but at the same time like I said b4, a lot of people look at Windows/360 as the same platform. Hell I own all 3 consoles and will get it on PC b4 I would 360. EA owns BioWare now(if I'm not mistaken) and they arent known for doing exclusives

Nothing Marty, but I guess those who cannot afford the other console would like to try it out as well :)

God dammit, I wasn't being a fanboy. I was asking him why he isn't going to get it on the 360, and take advantage of his old saves, even when he has the option to. I wasn't saying the game shouldn't be on any other console, retard.

Maverick in CASE you havent noticed I HAVE a 360 now, an ELITE model no less, so that should TELL you whether or not I can "AFFORD" it. I wouldn't get it on 360 simply because if it has Co-op I want to be able to use said feature without having to PAY. I have a FREE month of Gold I'm using right now after its done I wont be going online with Gears 2, Fable 2, or Crackdown anymore. I can admit that I can see peoples argument that Gold is worth it, but to me its not. I have no need to be able to talk to people in other games. hell thats the ONLY feature that XBL has over PSN that people KEEP bringing up. That there is the MAIN reason I will CONTINUE to get Multiplatform games on PS3. well that and the fact I LOATHE the D-pad on the 360 controller

I remember reading that mass effect was much better on the PC. Mass Effect is probably my favorite 360 game of all time. The only thing I didn't like was the lack fo effort put into the environments. The character models were bad ass but the terrain was awful.

I was speaking in general Chris D, sorry if it sounded like I was insulting or targeting you in particular, and I didn't mean it harshly either, I was just stating that the main reason for people not having the other console, whether its PS3, Wii or 360 is because they don't have that kind of money to splash out to buy them all, which is why multiplat is good as they get to share in that fun. I didn't say you in particular couldn't afford.

Pete. so what you are saying is that games such as Street fighter, Gears, & others have NO reason at ALL for you to use the D-pads???
come on now. you CANT be THAT blinded. even some of the most FAMOUS 360 fanboys on here admit that the D-pad on the 360 controller sucks all ass

Isn't it pretty common knowledge that you were going to be able to take your character all the way across three games?

Ahh, not to downplay ME at all, since i really enjoyed it, but i don't mind starting anew.
Erasing my file and trading in the game forces me to do so, also my "Sheppard" was seriously over powered weapon/gear wise.
I don't remember what the name or class of armor and weapons i was using, but i used a shotgun most of the game and assault rifle for the end boss.

EA may own Bioware, but doesn't Microsoft exclusively own the rights to publish the Mass Effect series for the first three games? I'm not completely sure it's under EA's control at this point. New management doesn't mean they can ignore old contracts.
I'm going with "Presumed dead, not actually dead" too. It'd be pretty ballsy to kill off the last game's main character, but I honestly think they wouldn't. Carrying over your character, and not just the world and choices, was supposed to be a major theme of the series.
Blacked-out amnesiac, new robot limbs, or something of that sort would be a good way to reset skill points, though.

OMG Shepard is dead and I believed everything the teaser said because I take everything at face value because I'm dumb. :(
Seriously people. Seriously.
Final Fantasy V spoiler below:
If not, at least there's probably a Krile to Shepard's Galuf.

There are only two different scenarios that BioWare is going to take.
1) Introduce a new main character and use the save files to affect the story line based on your decisions from the first game.
a. Sheppard is alive and joins your party later in the game.
b. Sheppard is dead.
2) The same thing regarding the story line except Sheppard is alive and the main character. You probably start the game on some Geth world etc.

What if my hard drive committed suicide and I bought a new HDD and already sold back my Mass Effect game?
I played the hell outta that game and was pretty excited to see how some of the tough decisions I had made would effect my Mass Effect 2 game. But now it would seem I'm screwed. I'm hoping if you don't have save data they let you pick some of the main bullet point character-defining decisions when you start up ME2.

When you think about it, the whole K.I.A. thing is stupid. There is no way they would kill those awesome characters. After successfully creating and making us care about them. It's really pointless to do that. And the only people who would even care are those that have played the game. Which by the way, are the same ones with game saves.
Besides, they had a chance to kill off everyone at the end of ME1 .Hopefully the game will start out with you climbing from the wreckage of the Normandy and trying to find a way home. Don't kill'em to save face, Bioware. You have my respect, don't lose it.

A theory that popped up in our group of friends is that ME2 will serve as the bridge between the lull at the end of ME to the assumed shitstorm that ME3 will be. Basically you'll play as a new main character who's tooling around the galaxy trying to prepare the Alliance and Citadel forces for the war with the Reapers and eventually you'll run into a presumed dead Sheppard and your created character will take the place of Ashley/Other dude in your party. Just what we've been coming up with.

The reason they "killed" Sheperd is because he was a super powered bad ass at the end of the last game, and couldn't give you all of that might right off the bat in this game. Instead of just stripping you're abilities inexplicably ala Devil May Cry, or explicably ala God Of You Know What II, he is just missing at the beginning. After you reach a certain point, he returns, with all of your powers.
One thing I'm curious about, I played once through as a paragon, and started another one, under the continue adventure or whatever option as a renegade. I'm curious as to how they'll pick which play-through to use my choices.
I don't remember the end with the council/ship so much, but I really had a hard time picking what to do with the Arachnid Queen. She seemed so damn nice and sincere. But she was a big ugle notoriously evil race. I put a lot on the line saving her ass. I swear to God she better keep her word, or I will be a ruthless mofo when I run into ugly mug..

I don't know if anyone has paid attention in this video or even on any website delivering this game's info. It's being published by EA. Microsoft's name is no longer attached. So, the argument is pointless either way. As of this time, there's no way to confirm or deny that the game will appear on the PS3. There's just speculation.

Teasers don’t mean shit. I see very little reason to assume that Sheppard is dead for real.
As far as multiplat… I doubt any developer is gonna fight too hard to be able to release on PS3. From what I hear PS3 is a pain in the ass to program for. Porting it would, likely, be a pain too. EA already has a pretty big base with 360 and PC and I doubt they’ll really care too much about the least-sold console.

That's rich considering the appalling LACK of a regular autosave is exactly what stopped me playing the game in the first place.
Having spent an hour or so running around on a mission with countless loading screens (where autosaves SHOULD occur) and then get killed in a stupid cut scene/minigame to find out none of my progress had been saved... well needless to say I didn't waste another second on that game and never will on any of their future games either.
