Capcom announces Lost Planet 2 [update]
We'll be putting up the video trailer soon, but in the meantime, you can view it on the Xbox Live Marketplace or have a look at some stills captured by Gamersyde. We trust you'll be able to notice the new forest environment, as well as the return of mechs, monsters and machine guns.
Update: You can watch the full trailer above, which demonstrates the game's new cooperative action. The trailer also notes that Lost Planet 2 is running on MT-Framework 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in the original Lost Planet as well as other Capcom releases like Dead Rising and Devil May Cry 4.

I'll say it: LOST PLANET 2 WILL BE FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nightmare452 @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:35AM
YES, excellent news. Was playing the 1st one still this weekend. Hopefully the fix some things but the game was solid and it can only get better. Great news.
flameofdoom666 @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:31PM
I was playing itthis weekend too! I love that game...
LordChimp @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:37AM
One thing I would like Capcom to work on, is the difficulty. Normal was challenging but not too hard but I played it also on the hardest difficulty and that made me almost go insane. I made it to level 11 before it became impossible for me to finish.
SoulBlade @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:12AM
harder difficulties are supposed to be... hard. not everyone can beat a game at the highest level of difficulty, and I think that it should stay that way.
LordChimp @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:16AM
I kept on waiting for someone like you to point out the obvious that a harder difficulty means a harder game.
What i was referring to was that the hardest difficulty is nearing the impossible. Anybody that has done it, please step in and help me on this one because I know I am not the only person to struggle with the highest difficulty in the game.
TheDemiurge @ Feb 23rd 2009 4:02PM
I agree completely that the hardest setting on this game was too hard. I started gaming during the nes days and lost planet was more frustrating on the hardest difficulty level thatn any of those old games.
Josh @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:41AM
Boooo....I'd rather see Marvel vs Capcom 3.
Tim @ Feb 23rd 2009 4:38PM
Don't be such a scrub *coughCable/Sentinel/Magneto/Stormcough*
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:58AM
Hell yeah unlike others here, I loved the first one! :)
Duke @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:36AM
I liked the game, but honestly, I had a bitch of a time with Green Eye. He frustrated the crap out of me. In fact, I don't think I ever got passed him. I would always get to the point where he had the giant head opening and then he killed me. So, I know I was like 2 shots from victory each time! Bah!!!
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:18AM
lol
Ah come on don't tell me you're one of THOSE gamers that quits!
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!"
Duke @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:58AM
I was really annoyed with that damn boss! It was the only time I can recall throwing my controller.
Sev @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:14PM
I honestly loved the game too.
The only thing that bugged me was that there was so much rolling everywhere! Roll here roll there, roll everywhere! The fact you took no damage was really a bitch. Roll shot, roll shoot.
Please dear god, do the one smart thing that Epic did and remove the invulnerability on those things!
firstbornrogers @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:03AM
Improve the combat a tiny bit and level design and I'll be happy! I am enjoying the first one.
Mack Swift @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:25AM
The first game was a lot of fun all around. This one looks great too. Some squad action, some giant mechs, more monsters, and that collapsible shield looks cool too.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:28AM
Liked the first one, but there's plenty of room for improvement and the idea of Lost Planet is good enough for me to look forward to the second one.
Sion @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:40AM
Now to beat Lost Planet 1.
Ujn Hunter @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:07AM
Super Rad! Dead Rising 2... and Lost Planet 2! :)
Enzemo @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:49AM
If they remove that pissing annoying heat thing I'll try it.
And if you run faster!
I hated Lost Planet with a passion. I felt they got everything wrong.
MowDownJoe @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:25AM
It looks like there will be a sprint button this time around. And co-op! And mechs that multiple people can ride in! And the story won't follow around just one amnesiac! I'm honestly psyched.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:52AM
watch the trailer man, seriously, i think you'll be pleased. one thing they didn't get wrong was the multiplayer. i still yearn for it. yes, i said yearn.
Professor Lario @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:53AM
I absolutely agree. I hate playing a game where I am on an artificial timer - just ruins the experience for me. Felt the same way about Dead Rising...
FlamingEffigy @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:26AM
I have to disagree about the multiplayer in just one respect, it was an amazing game, but the lag they had was sometimes worse than GoW2, at least for me and my friends. If they can get the lag to be minimal then this will be a definite purchase for me. in fact i feel like playing the first one now.
Deeznuts420 @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:54AM
i felt the "timer" was bogus anyway, i could run around the entire level without depleting or being close to it plus it was more of a "run through" game anyways.
Jacksons @ Feb 23rd 2009 6:24PM
"I felt they got everything wrong."
That sums up what I think of it as well. I didn't hate it, but I was constantly thinking "why did they ____?"
Levi @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:51AM
YES!! I loved the first game. Really solid old school action with great new school graphics. Reminded me of back in the day web the story was always lackluster and cheesy, but the point was always about the simple action. The combination of foot and mech battles were fun without making the mechs complicated for those mech enthusiast kind. Multiplayer was really fun too. Was really hoping they'd patch trophies into it, but oh well.
It was my first PS3 game, and I've regretted trading it online. I've been thinking about re-buying it, but I already have way too many games to play with like 5+ big titles in the near future. Guess I'll just wait for number 2. Psyced!!
AkaMagi @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:56AM
I'm always amazed as to how popular this relatively mediocre title is. I played it. It seemed like decent but not great graphics attached to 1990's gameplay and AI.
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:01AM
I didn't really care for the first one, thought it was pretty mediocre so obviously I wish they would have announced something else. That being said there's no reason to automatically dismiss this one just yet.
DJcube @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:10AM
I need to get round to playing the first. I got the colonies edition around a month ago and I've only played the tutorial so far.
FireAnt360 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:15AM
The repetitive gameplay was my biggest gripe, aside from that, it was a solid game IMO, sounds like I was the only one who like it.
FireAnt360 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:24AM
Dino Crisis 4 would have been a been substitute, Regina FTW.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Feb 23rd 2009 2:18PM
see, most people didn't give it a chance because the campaign wasn't that great. the multiplayer was the bigger focus and people dissed it because they sucked at it. the lag issue was fixed and i think alot of people stopped playing it before it was. but it had and still has a large community. especially since they released the colonies edition with all the map packs and new MP modes. i loved this game.
andrew @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:20AM
The first one wasn't BAD. It was just painfully mediocre. The acting and characters were so cheesy. If they nixed all the old characters, hired some good actors and made the game play more Gears of War-ish it could be a cool title. Also, I wanna kill bugs...less of this civil war crap....more bugs.
FlamingEffigy @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:29AM
Sounds like there is already a game out there for you: Gears of War 2.
It was a good game multiplayer, and the gameplay mechanics were all good, it only fell down in story and lag.
Intangible 360 @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:24AM
If they drop the constantly draining energy I'd be interested. It didn't botherme in MP but in SP I don't like to play games that basically always have you on a clock like Pikmin, Dead Rising or Lost Planet.
Mazrael @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:27AM
I played the demo 3 times to see if it would click.. one of the demo's had you camoflaged with a high view point, yet an entire base and their mech was fireing at you reguardless.. the usual 'see player kill player' which like a lot of AI doesn't need to see you. hell even Gears 2's AI toggles targets.. why can no one beat the 6 year old AI set from FEAR 1..
Lanceo9 @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:40AM
3 person coop through the campaign?
Cole @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:40AM
With a Thawed planet does that mean no more worrying about your temperature orbs?
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:49AM
That game looks gorgeous! DO WANT!
