Capcom announces Lost Planet 2 [update]

Okay, so the planet's not nearly as lost this time around, what with people having settled on it long enough to start shooting at each other. But "Slightly Misplaced Planet 2" or "Somewhat Unfamiliar Orb 2" doesn't have the succinct strength of a "Lost Planet 2," so let's just call it a day -- and a sequel to Capcom's frenetic and famously frigid Xbox 360, PS3 and PC shooter.

We'll be putting up the video trailer soon, but in the meantime, you can view it on the Xbox Live Marketplace or have a look at some stills captured by Gamersyde. We trust you'll be able to notice the new forest environment, as well as the return of mechs, monsters and machine guns.

Update: You can watch the full trailer above, which demonstrates the game's new cooperative action. The trailer also notes that Lost Planet 2 is running on MT-Framework 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in the original Lost Planet as well as other Capcom releases like Dead Rising and Devil May Cry 4.

I hope not, for the sake of multiplayer. All the pc cheaters ruin the colonies games...I'm sure there are a few that are legit, but its not fun when a guy won't die or has unlimited ammo.

Well I still need to play the first one, and keep meaning to. So it looks like I will be playing that before this one comes out later this year isn't it?

I've never played Lost Planet, and I could care less about online play. Is it is still worth picking up the original?

I'd say so, I really enjoyed the single player mode, and I'm glad that it's getting a sequel. You could probably get the original version very cheap now.

I'm surprized no one said anything about the boss battles. That's probably the best part of the first game. I haven't had this much fun fighting bosses since SNES days. Mech vs Mech fights were just crazy, especially when you had the inferior Mech and just had to be the "better" pilot. Last boss fight was tough as hell even with such an elite Mech.

Also the monster bosses were huge and had unique ways of taking them down. i didn't get around to hunting down the optional rare monsters. My only complaint about the 1st game was that it gave me motion sickness after long periods of play.

Amen. Those boss battles were great, especially that you got to fight a new one at the end of every level. Old school Level->Boss setup all the way man!

it look cracker, it got massive enemy, mechs and grappling hook so awesome.
it seems like so one said we did snow the first game so how about we go in the opposite direction.

the movable cover seems like a good idea GOW could use something like that

I like wandering around in shooters, which made the first one awful for me. I'll still rent it.

God that looks pretty. I was just watching sort of passively until they all jumped out of the boat and was all "Holy crap! That's in game!"
Seems like they've improved upon virtually everything I didn't like about the first game: extended grapple and a sprint. Hopefully there's still the thermal energy mechanic though, it was nice to have an old school timer... though hopefully there's a mode where you can turn it off, just for exploration purposes.
Let's just pray that they fix my other peeve; that completely insane plot. What was even going on at the end? My housemate even convinced me it was a new Zone of the Enders when he showed it to me first.

The Co-op looks excelent but i think they should add the splitscreen mode too for 2 players

I'm actually surprised on how long it's taking people to realize how really amazing and ahead of the times this game is. The trailer is a GAMMA build people and there's still a ridiculously large amount of rendering going on. Check it out again...there's a LOT going on. Frame 2.0 is sick and I fear what next gen consoles will eventually rip.

The only people who don't like this game probably suck at it. It's better than all the other shooters combined!!!! You can play this game online and never get bored! If u suck and u want to get good..play Team mode and fallback. when u get better start taking people on! Lost Planet 2 is going to rule...just like the 1st one!!
