GameStop is holding a tournament in Halo Wars throughout 1,000 of its stores in the U.S. this Saturday, February 28, 2009. It's a single-elimination, one-on-one tournament that should start at 2pm (call your local store for the exact time). Each store's winner will walk away with a copy of Halo Wars CE and a T-shirt. 2nd place winners will receive a T-shirt and a long, quiet ride home in mom's minivan.

How long will it take for them to sell the first Halo Wars strategy guide? That's my question!

Success! Seriously though, the original post made me laugh. Very quiet ride...

Yes but it's been well hyped, you'd figure there would be some party or something.

Killzone 2 has not been well advertised. Not on the level of Gears 1 or even Assassin's Creed, F4D, Fallout 3, etc.

either they are bias or microsoft paid them to do this because no one wants to play halo wars we want some Killzone 2. All in a effort to Kill some sales out of the zone

Considering that a two player Halo Wars fight lasts half an hour while a two player Killzone 2 fight lasts half a minute, I think they'll get just a little more mileage out of the Halo Wars tourney.
I don't think Halo 3 had a prerelease tourney, so I don't see why the Sony fanboys are getting so upset. Their sacred parity has been maintained.

I don't know I can't seem to get excited for either Killzone 2 or Halo Wars. How bout a Fallout 3 RTS! You can play as the The Brotherhood of Steel against the Super Mutants! I'm excited just thinking about that!

Sweet, there's a tourney going down in my town. I'll sign-up. I'll get pwned in the most pornographic of ways, but it'll be a fun time I'm sure.

I'm going to go and win the copy.
Then trade it in....for cash.

As I can almost guarantee I will not win, should I purchase it? I'm still going back and forth with my decision.

Halo Wars...Feb 28th release date.
Sounds suspiciously like a ploy to try and steal another game's thunder. I wouldn't expect anything less from MS...

Love the Sony Clones/Drones/IGNORANT rants and crying us a river why no KZ2 luanch at midnight bwhahahah.
It would be so funny if a RTS on a console beat KZ2 in sales!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Hey, here is a thought, maybe the PS3 should have the startup sound to the tune of an infant crying, they would be more in touch with there fanbase in this manner. ;P

Its a legitimate question. The answer is probably because A. It has the word "Halo" in the title and B. Microsoft went into some kind of deal with gamestop.
Also, its entirely reasonable that Halo Wars will outsell KZ2 simply because it has the word "Halo" in the title.
I know your trying to sound hip and cool in your statement but that shouldn't stop you from actually thinking it through.

That and the fact that Killzone 2 was over hyped and it's popularity has dropped off at an exponential rate after it's release.

Long tourney is going to be loooooooooooooooong.
Posted: Feb 24th 2009 1:41AM SpeeGold said
Yeah, seriously, how do they expect to finish this? Let's say the maximum of 32 people show up. And let's say each match is a half hour (unless everyone rushes, this is still a pretty low average). There are 16 matches in round 1, 8 in round 2, 4 in round 3, 2 in round 4 and 1 in round 5. That's 31 total matches played times 30 min. That's 15.5 hours. If they start at 2:00pm (they probably won't though, I'm sure they'll start late), they won't be done till 5:30am the next day. And I can't imagine it being a two day thing cause some states (like NJ) require stores to be closed on Sunday.
Okay... so after that waste-of-time comment I just wrote I went and looked at the rules and saw this: "There are no time restrictions in the tournament." Seriously? That's ridiculous. I was so proud of Gamestop for laying out specific rules for the tourney (unlike the mess that was the Brawl tournament) and then I see this shit. If I can get my friends to enter and we face each other, we can just stall the entire time and ruin it for everyone... actually that sounds like fun... >=D

i say its best to just buy the damn thing.

I'm on the fence about getting halo wars. Im not THAT crazy about it, and if i get it, i'll feel like im just paying $65 for the mythic map pack, which i'll be playing instead of the halo wars itself.

actually the matches should only be 15-20 minutes since they'll be deathmatch and not skirmish.

Ah. I don't think we get to practice Deathmatch in the demo but I'll look again.
I'm #3 on the list at the closest GameStop that's participating, so maybe I'll get to learn something while waiting.
Meanwhile, I kinda hope the signups do tail off quick...

Also, tons of people are saying it will take too long... I called my local gamestop and I'm so far the only person signed up =P
