Being Wii gamers, we're not total graphics snobs, but many feel that 480p support really should be the standard for new games by now. We guess Platinum Games didn't get the memo, as upcoming MadWorldwill only run in 480i, IGN reports. Neither Platinum Games nor Sega have made an official statement as to why the game is stuck in 480i, but regardless of interlaces or progressives, you have to admit the game still looks sweet.
For those of you who feel the same way, you might want to head past the break for a sneak peek at the game's multiplayer Blood Bath challenges. Still planning to pick up the game, despite 480i? Or is the deal totally off now?
It is indeed disappointing, but either way, I've already preordered it and am very much looking forward to chainsawing and spiking the hell outta people!
seriously dude, you won't buy a game because its not progressive scan? Really? Is that really where video games have arrived at this day and age? You wanna know why Matt had to do a blog post about this? BECAUSE NOBODY COULD TELL IT WAS NOT RUNNING IN 480P!!!
Not that it matters because I'm planning on reserving my copy this afternoon but can someone explain the difference between 480p and 480i and why "plik" would be willing to pass on one of the most unique, fun-looking Wii exclusives because of it?
because it's 2009 and we should not have to settle for crap interlaced graphics. most other devs. are able to do 480p no problem on the Wii, Platinum is just being lazy.
Well telling me that 480i is "interlaced" doesn't explain anything to me but I've always thought that the graphics looked great so whatever. And whether it's because Platinum is being "lazy" or because you're being stubborn, I'm sorry you'll be missing out on the this game.
I'm sure it won't change the gameplay, or that it looks great stock.
However, to have a game targeted at a market that has an INCREDIBLY high probability of having HD screens, read: adults, but ignore an increase in resolution is stupid.
It's bad enough that Nintendo didn't want to embrace HD to begin with, but to take an adult title with possibly some of the most unique graphics ever brought to screen and turf a simple increase in resolution?
Any game that comes out for the Wii is more than likely targeted at non-HD screens, regardless of its ESRP rating. Hell, even if you have an HD screen, how many of those people actually bothered to spend an extra $20 - $30 on the Wii component cables necessary to achieve progressive scan? And IF you have a decent HDTV, it's going to deinterlace the signal for you anyway, regardless of the source. This reminds me of the 1080i vs 1080p argument where people swore on their mother's lives they could tell the difference, even though there was none because the TV deinterlaces anyway!
Let's see. This game is targeted at "adults", is it not?
Most of the people that own a Wii that I've spoken to that want to play this game are adults.
With the price of HDTVs these days, MANY people have upgraded.
I know I'm not the only one that has bought the component cables, assuming people don't spend the money is like assuming people that bought the PS3 didn't drop some change to get the component cables.
Component is better. Fact. Test it out, the difference is clear.
And I don't care if my TV can upscale. You can put a bow on a pile of rubble, it's still a pile of rubble. You take a 480i source and upscale it, sure it'll look okay. But it's nothing compared to a true, de-interlaced 480p source.
Just because many people don't have HD TVs doesn't mean that any game made shouldn't at least support a BASIC "HD" signal... We're not playing a Super Nintendo any more.
while choosing to not play the game because it's in 480i isn't a very good argument, what's the reason for this game being in 480p? i mean, what the hell? the developers obviously put in tons of effort to bring forth the highest production values, yet they still don't think 480p is important enough?
Personally, as long as it supports 16:9, I'm cool. And GOOD support; I've been playing FF12 recently, and while it has a 16:9 option, it looks horrible. It's actually less annoying to have the black bars on my screen.
All but one of my Wii games supports 16:9, though, and a game that is trying to be top tier not supporting it would be a complete deal breaker, until it's in the bargain bin at least.
I've seen what 480i games look like on a big TV, and a few things become JPEGgy (distorted), which isn't that bad, but colours are less vibrant. This is really crap in games like Paper Mario and stuff.
But as far as I can see it, what is the problem with "dull" black? Maybe the blood wouldn't be as pretty or something, but I think Sega need to release a press statement saying it doesn't matter or something. Unless it does. :)
I don't care about graphics, I dont know wat 480i or 480p means but I'm not buying madworld because the gameplay looks clunky, all the vids are incredibly cut up which make me feels like they are hiding it. untill i see it i guess.
I've always played games on a SDTV and it's completely fine by me. Sure HD is pretty, I have a small HD compatible TV in my room at College... and I don't even use the feature... but my big TV in my home bedroom is standard and I'm okay with it.
Calm down people. It's gameplay, not graphics... remember?
Don't mind the lack of 480p, that's okay on a Wii game, but the one thing I cannot stand are when games do not support widescreen. This game does, right?
