I still don't understand why Sony hasn't released the Camera in the states. I am sure many people would buy it.

I would have for sure. Been waiting and waiting and waiting... for the cam AND the GPS.

I really would have preferred to use my PSP for that stuff, rather than buying a pricey and bulky smart phone and paying an extra freakin $50 a month. But they waited too long, now I'm in a contract.

But anyways, can't you still use the cam with Skype? I use the Skype feature all the time, so my friends and I can chat without using in-game chat clients which usually sound terrible... plus we don't really want to hear all the immature kiddies.

It was a waste from the start. Just because a product doesn't do well in one area doesn't mean it wouldn't have done well here in the states. Sony just keeps dropping the ball.

I'm still hoping that Skype for PSP will have WebCam support in the future. Now that the Go!Messenger service is being stopped, this "dream" may become reality...

First off, this story has propagated from a new blog stated that Sony officially announced that it was shutting down by posting it in their official SCEE forums. The supposed post has since been removed (by the moderators at the official forums) without any replacement being offered.

Since then every news blog you find this on has been just re-stating what the other blogs have already said and talk as if they have gotten official word from Sony. This isn't the case with the exception that one blog said they talked to a spokesperson. Which of course wasn't documented.

There's a ton of potential for that camera addon, they just need to find something to use it for. The Metal Gear Mobile game for cellphones utilized cellphone cameras to gameplay. However, the problem is, would people be inclined to buy this product just for a few games.

YES!

I went out and bought a new PSP-3000 just for the Skype built in mic... found the mic works amazingly awesome with "My Spanish Coach" too. If the camera worked with Skype or any of the other games or took pics and saved them on to the memory stick.... I'd buy it in a second.

Just sayin' I'd buy that.

sony, just because the camera aren't as good as some(i mean most) camera's on cellphone's these days, doesn't mean you shouldn't release it...:)

Well sony, if you plan on not releasing this in the states, can you at least get rid of the option on my XMB? Every time I go to look at pictures and just hit x, it highlights the nonexistant camera, to which my psp brain farts a little and tells me, "Please attach your camera"...yah...quite annoying

I've already somewhat given up on Sony, I still play my PSP and games like Phantasy Star Portable, Monster Hunter Unite and Dissidia: Final Fantasy will keep the console in my hands.

But on the firmware side of things, they're moving way too slowly.

The PSP has outsold the PS3 but yet, the PS3 gets far more frequent updates than the PSP does.

And most of these updates are features that should be on the PSP and are integral to the PlayStation Network, like the Friends List for example, which could help PS3 sales, or Trophies, or even custom soundtracks (something the PSP should've had from the beginning).

I'm sure these features are coming (especially the Friends List to make up for the loss of Go!Messenger).

But by the time we get any of these features, the PSPs software catalog will be far too exhausted and most games won't support any these features.

More evidence that the PSP has been officially abandoned in the USA by Sony. They discontinue a peripheral service for a peripheral we never even got, here.

Honestly, I put more stock in what we might get from Microsoft or even Sega or some other company at this point. Sony has destroyed the Playstation brand this gen.

So this hasn't been confirmed by Sony? I just bought the GO!CAM for my PSP1000 and gave them both to my girlfriend so I could chat to her in China on GO!Messenger. She's not back til the end of April...

Is so funny (sarcasm) that they are pulling the plug of something that never got the US.

They need to remove all the options on the XMB including the camera because it seems it will never see the light in the states.

I think Sony should work on getting stuff like Google Talk, Facebook etc. onto the PS3 and PSP. Facebook was really popular on the iphone, so it should do quite well.

Dustii's comment on "This is what you get from a Japanese company" left a bad taste in my mouth. Try living in Europe. We get shafted from Microsoft, Nintendo (especially Nintendo..) and Sony.

That being said, it has been Sony showing us the most love. We got PlayTV first (well we did in the UK) and the GPRS and the Camera..but still no one use Go!Messenger. I even installed it on my laptop..just no use.

Skype however is a completely different story. I would be very dissapointed if they got rid of that.

As to reasons behinf lack of release of there periferals, who knows, maybe it has something to do with the general bad press Sony has been getting in your media recently, we have read the stories on how US biast the media is towards pushing US technology (ie, Not Sony, or Nintendo). Do you not think companies would think twice on releasing things?

Anyway I ramble. Hope some sense can be made of this!
