Street Fighter IV ships two million units worldwide
Street Fighter IV has come out of its corner with a Hundred Hand Slap, as worldwide shipments of the title have reached two million units. Publisher Capcom did not provide any regional information to IGN about where all those little boxes went, but we're sure the company used a few to replenish the stock in Japan, following reports that the game sold out during its launch week.
The good news is that retailers purchased a couple million copies and now Capcom doesn't have SF IV just sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Are two million (and more) of you ready to buy our favorite fighting game this generation?

Interesting.....
StarFoxA @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:45AM
I still have to buy it...
Shin @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:52AM
Is the game even any good? Some of current gen fighing games have been really sucky. (DBZ : Burst Limit, Virtual Fighter 5, SoulCalibur IV)
Martin @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:56AM
I didn't know people considered DBZ in the same league they consider SC / Tekken / SF / VF. Has it gotten that good over the years?
acefondu @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:28AM
I was also disappointed with SCIV and VF5. Mainly SCIV's online blew chunks and VF5 I have for the PS3, nuff said there. But SFIV is fantastic, really truly amazing. The online is solid as is the game. It is SO well balanced too. As long as you don't get sick of fighting Ken's and Ryu's online then by all means buy this game.
aggrazel @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:29AM
SF IV is SF II on steroids. Literally.
TORO @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:47AM
Buy it! I'm addicted to this game...
AoE @ Feb 23rd 2009 4:42PM
@Shin,
You can lump DBZ fighting games in with MK games if you want, but let's not confuse it as a good fighting series.
Also, VF5 was good, at least the 360 version was; I can see how maybe you'd be dissapointed if the PS3 version was the one you got however...
As for SFIV though?! YES! It is most excellent on both systems!
Great Golem+ @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:52AM
"Are two million (and more) of you ready to buy our favorite fighting game this generation?"
No. I'll wait for Tekken.
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:05AM
It's not as good.
Tekken 4 was ok, Tekken 5: DR was the best Tekken so far from 3.
Also Street Fighter =/= Tekken. SF is more of a 2-D game, the EX games don't count because they sucked.
Strategy_Panda @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:43PM
I'm also waiting for tekkin
DEEZNUTZ @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:52AM
Been tearing this game up from day one.
Barkley610 @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:54AM
i was thinking of going today to trade-in MK vs. DC, which i've played once the first day i got it .
InfinityPlusOne @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:58AM
If you like Street Fighter, then yes, the game is really that good. Online is pretty solid for the most part and the controls feel perfect.
The only lame part are the movies and the english voices.
My all-time favorite Street Fighter is Alpha 2. I just love that game. This comes pretty close though.
Zertoss @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:04AM
Guile's Japanese voice cracks me up.
"Mishun sturt."
bluenocturnex @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:07AM
you can change the voices individually to JP if you wish in the options menu.
This game is great but street fighter 3 was better.
Nathanical @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:24AM
i gotta say online so far has been my biggest dissapointment with the game tbh. i really dig the whole winner stays on in a room of 6 mechanic in SC4 and SSFIITHDR. SFIV seems to be bare minimum in the way of online modes, with just the single 2 ppl max rooms. Its really a big dampener on the whole experience.
nimitz @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:03PM
well i heard you could play in arcade mode and turn on the challenger mode and you'll constantly get new ppl to fight instead of opening a 2 person room. Also you can set the game to only add ppl that are ranked higher than you so you wont keep playing noobs.
DarthDavid @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:03AM
Still waiting for my Hori to be delivered....hey Capcom, how about some 3rd Strike & Vampire Savior online?
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:05AM
PS2 version has online.
DarthDavid @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:23AM
You're mistaken, I'm staring at my SF Anniversary Collection PS2 box never had online. Your taking about the Xbox version, that had online. No big deal tough, I'll just pop this bad boy in my PS3 60gb when my Hori gets here. Vampire Savior PSN online.....that's what I really want.
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:28AM
I thought the PS2 version had online.
Except it was very very shitty.
Old_But_New @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:08AM
I haven't read any reviews yet, so I don't know if it's been stated already... but I rented this over the weekend and it's quite literally still 2-D Street Fighter with much nicer, 3-D graphics. I mean 2-D ALL THE WAY, there is no 360 movement, only left and right. So basically if you're a fan of SF series or Capcom VS games, you should be right at home with this one. If you're looking for some drastic change, then you're not going to find it here, but somehow that makes this all the more better.
If you never cared for the SF series to begin with, then SF4 isn't going to convert you in any way.
I've always been more of a Soul Calibur/Mortal Kombat guy, but found this game to more interesting than those. Maybe because it felt so "back to basics".
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:12AM
You also forget to mention that the SF franchise and fanbase outnumber most fighting game fanbase except maybe the KoF and SC.
The Name Sells, plus SF IV is just as easy to pick up as SF II. Anyone can pick up this game, unlike SF III which was more "Hardcore".
samfish @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:10AM
Awesome. That's about 1.9 million players using Ken!
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:13AM
*Doesn't use Ken, Uses Sagat*
*1.8 million Ken users now. : P
Zertoss @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:24AM
There's 100,000 people on your account, Xera?
Xera077 @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:26AM
Actually I have 5.
Soooo. Lets see here.
1,999,995.
I've seen more Ryus and Akumas then Ken. It maybe my region though.
samfish @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:30AM
I go up against mostly Ken, Akuma and Sagat. I see Ryu fairly often, too, but nowhere near as much as those 3...especially Ken!
Nadril @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:52AM
I mostly go against Kens too. Although I did go up against a Dan the other day, to my surprise.
He fucking kicked my ass :(
Vcize @ Feb 23rd 2009 3:14PM
I'm pretty sure that in 200 matches online I've yet to play against anyone except Ken.
At least that's what it feels like...
7egend @ Feb 23rd 2009 7:18PM
mostly Kens for me as well, I can't tell you how many times I have been flown across the screen by an onslaught of 5 shoryukens in a row.
If you back up you get the Hadoken spam, and if you step forward you get Shoryuken spam. It's the Zerg Rush of Street Fighter.
I have fought some E. Hondas and Sagats, and one guy who played M.Bison flawlessly. I have yet to see anyone play El Feurte, Abel, Rufus, or C. Viper.
I haven't really found a Character that I have really settled into like I did with the HD Remix, Sagat was my guy there, but I feel a little better about Balrog in SF 4.
Anyways, Boycott Ken.
DJcube @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:11AM
Is there going to be a demo?
Batman @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:23AM
Looks good, but I can't seem to drop the cash on it right now. I am still building back up some funds following the wicked holiday season. I think the next game for me will be at the earliest Riddick. Maybe once this gets discounted though.
Dan Rabot @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:23AM
I do like the look of this game, but I've always been a bit more of a Mortal Kombat guy myself.
Will still probably pick this up.
big_six_boy @ Feb 23rd 2009 9:33PM
I went to pick it up for a friend over the weekend... What started out as a no-brainer-quick-grab, turned into a drive around town looking for a copy!
It's SOLD OUT everywhere across Canada at both Futureshop and Bestbuy. Crazy stuff...
There were like 3 copies of the non-collectors edition at Walmart.
So, yeah, I think Capcom have a hit on their hands!
Paul Rodriguez @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:34AM
The craziest thing happened to me when watching the PS3 version of Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind: about 40 minutes into the movie, it froze. Now no Blu Ray movies and games work. PS2 and PSone games work though.
Before the system got messed up, I did get a few days with SFIV. The game is great. I love the classic SFII feel.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:54AM
Holy shit, Paul Rodriguez! I loved you in "A Million to Juan!"
xGeneral DEATHx @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:28AM
Matt Foley: Dad, mis ojos aren't workin' too well...is that Paul Rodriguez? Es un Paul Rodriguez??
Dad: Senor Foley, my children do not need to be ridiculed in order to learn--
Matt Foley: Dad, I wish you would shut your friggin' YAPPER!
Kodros @ Feb 23rd 2009 2:08PM
Check local repair places first before sending it back to Sony. Most of the time, these guys can fix it for a lot cheaper...plus, they won't wipe your hard drive like Sony.
Jerk Face @ Feb 23rd 2009 10:59AM
I want to get this game. I really do. But I'm just not good at fighting games, and since none of my friends enjoy fighters in general, dropping 60 bucks just to get schooled online repeatedly just doesn't seem like a good idea.
samfish @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:27AM
That's why you have training mode. The vs. CPU mode is good for practice, too.
Jerk Face @ Feb 23rd 2009 12:04PM
I had heard around the podcast circuit that the training mode wasn't so good. Thoughts otherwise?
samfish @ Feb 23rd 2009 12:49PM
It could be a lot better, admittedly. It doesn't do anything to TRAIN you in how to play is it's biggest flaw...but I don't think any fighting games do that, stupidly.
But it's good for figuring out the basics and intermediates of a character, plus if you want to practice against a certain character without rounds or time limits stopping you.
It's weird, because Tatsunoko vs Capcom has a much better training mode. You'd think Street Fighter would have used the same thing.
GiovanniMcAdoo @ Feb 23rd 2009 3:28PM
thats why you go into the trial mode
Dirty @ Feb 23rd 2009 4:34PM
Its ok, I suck at fighting games too.
NinjaWalrus @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:07AM
I think Joystiq has referenced the Hundred Hand Slap in every post about Street Figher so far. Makes me wonder if they've ever played as more than just Mr. Edward Honda.
doom saber @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:45PM
Mr. Edward Honda? Is he a brother to SF fighter E. Honda aka Edmond Honda??
Kidding but I just have to say it.
NinjaWalrus @ Feb 23rd 2009 1:51PM
Um err yes. Just like how Sub-Zero's brother took over Sub-Zero's spot in MK, Edward Honda took over for his elder brother Edmond Honda. Duh.
Mazrael @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:09AM
Can't see me picking it up, once I had all the offline achievements (I dislike low scores too) I generally move on to another game, or when something new comes out, VF5 I can beat easily on the hardest difficulty, not sure how I got that good, though I also win most fights on the world arcade mode, then I got bored of fighting the same 'players'.. but I go back to it ocassionly, which would be the same through feeling nostalgic.. yeah I could play online, but I just never win, so much for the true skill system..
A while back, I borrowed SF3 (and some other on a compilation) for the Xbox.. I beat the arcade mode once & gave it back, it's the same now when I play World Warriors
