Resident Evil 5 Producer Jun Takeuchi tells MTV Multiplayer that the demo has infected over four million consoles worldwide. Capcom previously revealed the demo was downloaded 1.8 million times during its first week on Xbox 360, but the latest figure incorporates the PS3 numbers and downloads in the month since.
Takeuchi also took a moment to talk about concerns brought up by those who played the demo. He states that the staggered couch co-op split-screen was designed to prevent the lead characters from standing in "one column." He continues that people will understand the controls better once they have the full game, and he says they'll respond if any racism issues come up at a later date. RE5 finally shambles onto consoles next month.

I 3rd that.
Is it really that hard to run and shoot at the same time? Let alone stab at the same time?

I'm an avid defender of the difficult controls in the old Metal Gear Solid games, and I agree. Even if Snake controlled like a clumsy retard, he didn't *look* like one.
I draw the line when I wish I was in the character's place because I could do a better job.

Let me just say that from some of the reviews I have read it's not the fact that it's blacks who are getting killed. It's other stereotypical behavior that is objectionable. I don't know because I haven't played the game.

I don't agree w/ those who call the racism card, but here's what I think they're trying to say:
I don't think it has to do w/ the "blacks" thing, or "other stereotypes"- it has to do w/ the fact that there are still a lot of wounds that haven't been healed when it comes to prejudice against (mostly) African Americans. The game revolves around EXTREME violence towards Africans. Yes, the violence was targeted at Americans and Europeans in past gamesl, but that's not the point.
I guess it's kind of like a rape victim who doesn't want to watch a movie w/ a rape scene. It's hard to watch due to past experiences. I think more than anything people want others to acknowledge that this game will conjure up bad memories.

I think it would be nice if that's what they wanted, but I think it's pretty clear from the analysis that most of them have just been trained to respond "HAY THATS RACIST," but in many more words, to certain imagery.
It isn't so much black people as much as certain academic disciplines, in my observation.

I actually really like the way that they did the split screen. It takes a few minutes getting used to, but then I thought it was actually better.
The controls I still dont mind, im pissed there is no merchant, and im pissed that it will ALWAYS have to be played like its co-op.
But im still excited

our society is that black people get a free pass. look at the 50 cent game he's basically beating up on middle eastern people but whatevers i guess. at least in re5 they tried as best as they can to address the issue by adding several different infected (including a Stalin one).

I loved the demo, I can't wait to get the full game. Co-Op was great fun I felt. It's not a horror survival anymore, it's just a horror action, much like Dead Space. I loved Dead Space. I love life

Feb-June:
KZ2, RE5, Riddick, Bionic Commando, The Conduit.
Not counting Eat Lead, which I'll pick up whenever I have money, any PSN releases, and games that I don't know of a release date, like I Am Alive, Prototype, Infamous, Dark Void. Yay me, but not yay for my wallet or quality of life XD

It was dissapointing but I still cant believe that people are criticising this game so much, admitedly its just RE4 in HD, but RE4 was the best game of 2005 and possibly the best shooter of last gen. The online coop should be fun - somehow, after tasting the superb online coop of R2, I cant get enough of it. Maybe its the all-so-frequent moments when you and you teammate combine perfectly to kick the AI's ass in a way you alone could never do.

How, exactly, is it 'racist' to treat black people just like everyone else (Spaniards, cross-dressing white dudes, rednecks)?
Instead of saying 'complaints of racism', try saying the truth: complaints of squeaky-wheel professional noisemakers like Al Sharpton.

What does Al Shaprton have to do with anything?
Do you always have to bring your right wing bias into the forums? Seriously dude just go on the Hannity or O'Reilly forums with that right wing noise. This blog is about video games not your dumb ass agenda.
On to your comment:
How can you comment either way about it being racist until you actually *play* the damn game? You are assuming that there is no objectionable content within the content of the game without having played it. Instead of dismissing it why not take a wait and see approach and pass your final judgement after you get to play it.

Penny Arcade's Tycho, Eurogamer.com, and Tom Chick have all played the full game and all three noted offensive racial imagery. These are fairly respected people/orgs in the gaming community, and the fact that they've actually played the full game means their opinions are at least informed. I find it depressing that so many commenters can declare the game to not be offensive at all when they haven't even played the game yet. It reminds me of the intellectual laziness that pervades 360 vs PS3 fanboy talk.

Of course - they're liberal douchebags! The liberal douchebag can't even wait for some opportunistic race-card baiter to make the complaint before agreeing with it; the whole thing started with some left-wing douchebag game reviewer saying that they "could see complaints of racial insensitivity" in the game.
Nothing unique happens to the zombies in this game because they're black. If you swapped the skin color you'd never even bother to think that something 'offensive' was going on - because the only way you find this game offensive is if you, yourself, are racist and think that black people need special 'image protection'. It's the same thing as complaining when someone uses a monkey in a cartoon to make vague reference to Obama when we heard for years how much Bush looks like a chimp (which he does).
Racial equality does not mean we police everything we say just in case one person in a shack in Overreactionville might get offended. It's about intent, not what you can read into it with your racist mind.

So if someone finds the content offensive it means THEY are racist?
Wow you are truly a fucking retard. I suppose you and your other two college drop out friends Hannity and Rush can go on another personal crusade against "the liberal douchebags". There are douchebags on both sides of the aisle and YOU are one of them.
Douche aka Bass Masterson.

Yep. Look up the word 'racist', and you'll understand why: treating one race differently from any other is the definition of the term.

Here goes the race thing again. I don't understand why people think its racist. If it is at all, as a white, I can say that Afro Samurai is racist back. Shows how immature a person is when they would bring that conversation up.

I can see why there are a big number of downloads.
I had to download the demo 6 times because of the dreaded "Error occurred during install operation".

So I didn't have a problem with the no run n gun scenario.... What I have a problem with is the controls are stale as hell and make you feel robotic. Consoles have so many buttons yet you have to press 17 to get the player to use a damn knife... This game will be a definite rental which is sad due to the fact it was a definite purchase before the demo...

I think the last thing you said was pretty interesting.
A big argument against making pre-release demos is that it hurts the game's sales. But let's be honest here, if you had bought the game only to find out it's not what you expected and you don't like it, not only might you return it, negating the sale, but you'd feel ripped off, and might not buy the next game in the series.
So yes, while playing the demo before buying the game has turned you away from it, it's done so in a decidedly more friendly way.
Just a thought.

I agree, I am all for demos and I thank Capcom for giving the the choice. I don't think a demo could ever turn me away from a game I was interested completely and who knows it may end up a purchase as I am really interested in the game. I may just have to suck it up. I was pretty spoiled by the RE4 Wii controls sadly.... Never thought I'd say that for a Wii game.

Does the PS3 pad have 17 buttons? My 360 pad only has 10 or so.

it was annoying to play this game, plain and simple. i'll admit some responsibility: i have no desire to practice getting good at the game. it realy felt like they were making tension solely by making the controls difficult and ammo scarce. the game feels like it should have dead space-like controls, and i should never have to reset the game just because i can't find any ammo: give me another option (the knife takes dozens of slashes to do anything)
