It makes sense in a very Nintendo kinda way but it's still the iPopular naming scheme just a little bit.

Come now, Nintendo. There's no shame in admitting you ripped off of something as popular as the iPod.

If you want to be particular, Apple introduced the iMac three years before the iPod.

it fits the wii play together and i play the DSi type thing. it makes some sort of sense if you think about it too much and don't come to a solid conclusion

To me the "i" stands for internet, because the DSi is clearly Nintendo's choice to try to move into the downloadable game market.

Ha! I called it! I knew it was going to be a play on words just like the "Lite" meant both slimmer and had the brighter screen. It also fits perfectly with the "Wii" with emphasis on "we" (the two "i"s are supposed to be people) for bringing multiple people together, while the DSi is all about the individual.
