1UP: Capcom considering series 'reboot' for Resident Evil 6
It appears that Resident Evil producer Jun Takeuchi is ready to hit the reset button for the next game in the series. Speaking with 1UP, Takeuchi believes that a reboot is possible for Resident Evil 6. No further details were given, so it's unclear whether he means RE3 to RE4 type change, or something bigger.
In our interview with Takeuchi, we did ask what the plans are for RE6. The producer told us that Capcom is simply in the "thinking about it stage" of development. However, he does believe that if too much time goes by between this installment and the next, that people lose expectation. Probably not a good idea to wait too long between franchise installments, though, as other games can fill people's heads with new expectations.

So what; back to the old camera style?
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 24th 2009 8:20PM
A lot of people liked the original style of Resident evil before 4.Some Survival Horor fans feel a bit alienated with RE:4 and 5.
If you ask me making the main characters soldiers kind of ruin it since ya know they supposely know how to fight, like F.E.A.R is not too scary for the fact you are a super soldier than can move in bullet time.
If you ask me I feel RE abandoned its roots after Code Veronica but a Reboot (Off topic:I loved that show) at this point eh why not make RE:6 like the original games?
Well at least its better than going the Dino Crisis way.
DangerMouse @ Feb 24th 2009 8:30PM
Code Verionica was probably what did it, since that game was terrible in every way possible. I also think they took too long to capitalize on 4's success, since it's been 4 years since the last game came out. Even the gap between the first 3 games was only about 3-4 years. And while RE2 kept the same gameplay mecahnics as RE1, everything else seemed to improve in so many ways.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 24th 2009 8:42PM
I thought Code veronica was pretty good, except for the sniper part, but otherwise the strongest of the original RE games. Thinking about it RE was never incredible just good and we all liked because it was something different. If we want to play some action game with tons of gore we have Gears of war already.
I always consider Silent hill better series, the best horror game is of course Fatal Frame II but man III is so tedious. Yes recreating the same thing in a horror movie works but just in a psychological thriller and just for a brief time and only if it’s valuable to the plot otherwise is freaking boring.
Tiptup300 @ Feb 24th 2009 9:37PM
I happened to love RE: Code Veronica, I got stuck on it, like litterally stuck, only 3 pistol shots left and had to fight veronica with a knife, so it was impossible for me to get farther without restarting.
I also was a giant fan of RE2.
DangerMouse @ Feb 24th 2009 10:08PM
lol, that happened to me as well. I thought i was playing it safe with 20 ink ribbons remaining.
I just found it to be an aggravating experience. RE2 is still my favorite, RE3 was good as well.
Dave @ Feb 24th 2009 10:08PM
Ya gotta have RE on RAILS!! Everyone loves a RAILS game!!
Nook @ Feb 25th 2009 7:32AM
lawlz, I got stuck like that in CV also! Had to restart the game, which was cool with me because I think Code Veronica is a great game, then and now.
I also agree that the older games are far more intense, the feeling of surviving is really really intense in REmake, that's what they did with pre-renders back in 2002. I'd love to see a new pre-rendered RE game made today. While I love 4 to death and back to life again, the feeling is not the same....it FEELS more 'adventurey' than survival, which is what you were concerned with when you were going to Lisa's cabin in the woods....feeling like you were walking into something really bad.
Not quite sure what the fucking deal is with the huge arms on Redfield now either, big turn off, RE has never been about super sized heroes, it's been about the quasi-average person being put in a horrible situation that will likely result in their death, while periodically fighting super sized boss things. Whatever the deal is (thanx gears 4 idea! - ccom) it's a turn off for me. I haven't played the demo, nor do I own a PS3, but 5 looks like it's just smacking of zero and four elements...in a higher resolution.
It would be a shame for Capcom to further dilute the series by catering to a group of people that apparently have never played an RE game before and are complaining that it doesn't play like their fav game. RE did not gain it's position by being flexible, it did so by being consistently tense, a combination of the story, controls and camera view.
6 should be helmed by someone that knows how to get horror onto a disk, the best person in my eyes would be Mikami.....too bad he cut his head off. It should offer a switchable camera view, ala old school or 'easy weezy' 3rd person over dat scholda-boi, and it should make you shit your pants at 2am when playing alone.
and they should remake 2. get crackin capcom.
Jack @ Feb 25th 2009 1:25PM
What I liked about RE4 was being able to shoot individual body parts and get accompanying reactions.
If RE gets rebooted or we see a engine change I would love to bring back old school zombies, tight spaces (not too much though), but still be able to aim where I want.
I imagine zombies moving slow but in masses. And they'd have individual life bars (though not visible) for limbs like Fallout. That way you can blow off an arm and they'd still keep coming. Blow off a leg and they collapse and continue by crawling while getting tramples by other zombies. Do enough damage to the dome and BOOM! HEADSHOT!
mr mobius @ Feb 24th 2009 8:10PM
5 isn't even out yet. Give the man some time!
In A World (XBL) @ Feb 24th 2009 8:16PM
What, they could have rebooted BEFORE releasing RE5?!!
NoughtSoClever @ Feb 25th 2009 9:55AM
Nobody was crying and bitching about controls before the demo for 5. This is a response to all the complaints. The next RE will be a generic shooter.
In A World (XBL) @ Feb 25th 2009 11:39AM
"Nobody was crying and bitching about controls before the demo"
Well... yeah... that's kinda the point: the demo, the thing that DEMONSTRATES how the game works, gave people an informed opinion about the game. Just think about how stupid your statement is for a second.
kobebryunt @ Feb 24th 2009 8:21PM
Make it scary please.
Syn @ Feb 24th 2009 8:28PM
Left 4 Dead gave me more of a thrill than RE5. Stand at the window and swing your blade over and over. Or the fact they will watch you reload instead of attacking you. I'm scared... Resident Evil died at 4 for me, 5 was a joke. If they reset RE series, let it be more like the original.
HitNRun @ Feb 24th 2009 8:51PM
Good Lord, yes. Remember the Licker in RE2 crawling across the window? That's the kind of game that scared the piss out of you.
People wouldn't have a problem with the controls if they were part of the feeling of helplessness that was the core of the early games. Either the controls or the linear-horde-gauntlet gameplay have to go.
firstbornrogers @ Feb 25th 2009 9:36AM
This.
EgoCheck616 @ Feb 24th 2009 8:26PM
I would like less of a "rail-shooter" feeling in my horror games, please.
The RE5 demo was as linear as they get.
*Guy on fence - Shoot it - Another guy on fence - Shoot again*
*Shoot explosive barrel*
*Open door - OH NO MORE GUYS - Shoot guys*
End of demo.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 24th 2009 8:33PM
The amount of damage the Chainsaw guy takes is ridiculous.Seriously it would be better if they were more Chainsaw guys that came out of no where in key moments butonly stand a moderate amount of damage like regular enemies.
4-nades should do the job.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 24th 2009 8:35PM
I meant 3 grenades.
Also I don't know you but the axe guys felt like an attempt to recreate Nemesis or full fill the void he left.
Kinda like the butcher in Silent Hill Origins.Okay yes the Pyramid Head/s is/are awesome but only in Silent Hill:2 same the nurses, just fukken stop it.
R @ Feb 24th 2009 8:38PM
how about just make a brand new horror IP and put the RE series to rest.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 24th 2009 8:43PM
Haunting grounds says hello.
TheE3Guy @ Feb 24th 2009 8:43PM
I love how everybody is ragging on RE5 and the game isn't even out yet. The demo was to give you a taste of what was to come. Honestly, you can't judge the game based on a 20 minute demo. Although I do agree with the enemies sucking, the demo felt like it was on retard mode, you could run right past the chainsaw guy and he wouldn't attack you.
Matt Ferens @ Feb 25th 2009 12:45AM
The entire purpose of a demo is to entice you to buy the full game. It should be a taste of the best the game has to offer. The RE5 demo did not entice me.
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 25th 2009 1:37AM
A demo does only give you a taste of what's to come, but one thing that won't change is the controls.....which was an awful taste of things to come with RE 5.
AaronMD @ Feb 24th 2009 8:52PM
I got a breakthrough idea: Responsive controls!
Just one of the reasons that Left 4 Dead >>> Resident Evil.
ryan @ Feb 24th 2009 9:23PM
Bwah?! R u kiDDing meh?!
I wish L4D had RE controls!!
It's all about TEH TENSION and TEH REALISM!!
In A World (XBL) @ Feb 24th 2009 9:27PM
RE5 could also do with a bit of creepy Witch sobbing.
mmxzero @ Feb 24th 2009 9:31PM
Wrong, they are responsive. You just dont like how they are set up.
Also, RE4 > every game =P
Discotheque @ Feb 24th 2009 9:32PM
Wow, does that MD at the end of your name mean you're a doctor because if so I have little faith in the medical system these days.
Seriously two completely different games. No need for comparison.
WRE @ Feb 24th 2009 10:37PM
Hey! You guys know what game was so damn hell awesome? Dead Space. I want Dead Space 2 right now! Right now, EA. Hear?
DangerMouse @ Feb 24th 2009 11:14PM
I want to see RE6 on ice. do it capcom. do it.
lasersanchez @ Feb 24th 2009 11:23PM
The controls do everything I tell them to. Perhaps you need to change batteries? Or perhaps not play it like a shooter?
ryan @ Feb 25th 2009 12:08PM
Bwah?! R u kiDDing meh?!
I wish DEAD SPACE had RE controls!!
It's all about TEH TENSION and TEH REALISM!!
Deeznuts420 @ Feb 24th 2009 9:00PM
im surprised no one here has mentioned an RE2 remake
Deeznuts420 @ Feb 24th 2009 9:00PM
that he should do before 6 i mean
reggs12 @ Feb 24th 2009 10:02PM
Not being able to move is very restrictive. It was one of the main things that stuck out to me having not played the series in a long time. The game feels dated. Zombies run up to you and stop so you can shoot them or stand there and swing your knife as you STAND STILL. You can make the excuse for the gun but not being able to swing the knife while moving just makes the game feel frustrating. I will rent it and play through but I don't have to like it. They should never restrict control to make up for crappy zombie AI.
lasersanchez @ Feb 24th 2009 11:24PM
Don't use the effing knife. Punch zombies after you shoot them in the groin. a thousand times more effective!
reggs12 @ Feb 25th 2009 9:14AM
ahh yes i forgot about that. good point. But then why use the knife at all?
eNrique @ Feb 24th 2009 9:32PM
Just... bring Shinji Mikami back.
Please.
CJLopez @ Feb 25th 2009 1:20PM
seccond
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 24th 2009 9:32PM
how bout we wrap up the original storyline and not jump ahead?
mmxzero @ Feb 24th 2009 9:35PM
RE6 on Wii starring Leon fucking Kennedy! Brilliant, I should work for Capcom.
aaronx_x @ Feb 24th 2009 9:36PM
like actual zombies?
ryan @ Feb 24th 2009 9:50PM
Pretty sure at some point there will be old school zombies in the game. Lickers are in and several other classic monsters were confirmed as well to be in.
Juddinrs @ Feb 24th 2009 9:44PM
Resident Evil 5's demo was great and the game looks great, but as a fan of all the original games you know before people started to jump the bandwagon. i gotta say that i have the itch to play a good old style resident evil game. resident evil remake for gamecube was GREAT. and if they make something like that for the ps3 now i will be on it no matter if its a remake or what. and another thing, the original story wasnt that complicated, can they please go back to that.
lasersanchez @ Feb 24th 2009 11:24PM
RE was big before 4. They made 2 movies about the series before that you know.
time @ Feb 24th 2009 9:50PM
reboot the series onto the wii please.
Edward @ Feb 28th 2009 11:40PM
They could also make the knife more "hand" sized instead of looking so big that it could fool first-timers into thinking that it was a viable primary weapon...
Kinda reminded of how the whole new look for Redfield, kinda like the whole "supergun" thing with Old Snake, made it look like the game would be more combat oriented and less of "staying alive/away."
jynxycat @ Feb 24th 2009 10:30PM
They'll start on it, and 75% of the way to completion, they will scrape the entire project and start over.
It's almost required when making an RE title.
