New Square Enix trademark could be Final Fantasy IV: The After
Siliconera discovered new
Square Enix trademark registrations on both the European and US trademark databases for something called "The After Years." While it could be
anything, this title is extremely similar to the subtitle of the
Final Fantasy IV sequel for cell phones,
Final Fantasy IV: The After, and
could signify an upcoming release of the game outside of Japan. We last heard vague rumors about an international release for
The After back in
September.
Siliconera points out that a similar
registration for
Crystal Defenders predated the US iPhone adaptation of
that mobile game, and that since then, a
WiiWare version has been released, and PSN and XBLA versions announced.
The After, as well, could be ported to a more US-friendly platform. Or, of course, this trademark could be for something else entirely.
