What, you want
more PSP news? Very well, how about the announcement that Atlus will be bringing the
Persona PSP remake over to the US this fall. After the success of
Persona 3 and
4, it was a no-brainer that Atlus would decide to bring the game over to an RPG-hungry western audience. The remake includes "a completely redone localization and content never before seen in North America," along with "gameplay
enhancements and additions new to the remake."
Whether or not the title will head to Europe is slightly more nebulous, as Atlus doesn't have a publishing arm in the region. Hopefully sales of
Persona 4 will be high enough to
encourage Square Enix to go ahead and publish the PSP remake of the original, too.

CANT WAIT, finally a proper localization of this game!
Richards | PSN: F4WMR @ Feb 24th 2009 2:56PM
Oh.
Bumcats @ Feb 24th 2009 2:57PM
Oh to the 2nd Power
Shoyz @ Feb 24th 2009 2:58PM
Please tell me they won't keep the changes they made in the original localization (They were horrible).
Arashikou @ Feb 24th 2009 3:55PM
I assume that that's exactly what "a completely redone localization and content never before seen in North America" (separate from the "gameplay enhancements and additions new to the remake") means - that they're going to do a GOOD localization this time and leave in the content they cut from the PSX release. (They'd kind of have to - some of the new features build on that content, after all.)
I mean, come on - this IS Atlus we're talking about. Not those hacks who translated it bef- oh, wait, that was Atlus too. Well.... then this is a chance for them to make up for past sins, then. :) But seriously, now that the market can support faithfully exotic Japanese localizations instead of only frightening Americanizations, (like most people thought back when Persona was released the first time) I really can't believe the modern Atlus would stand for another hack-job like the old Atlus did. This announcement seems to support that. (Glee!) The first two American Personas are probably an embarassment they'd like everyone to forget, these days.

As you can see on the top left screen shot they finally added the musical chairs mini game.

Persona 4 is still sitting high atop my pile of shame, still in the cellophane.
One day...

Finally a PSP game I'm interested in.
McWeen @ Feb 24th 2009 3:12PM
This game would need a MASSIVE reworking to be fun on a handheld.
Vegnagun bwf @ Feb 24th 2009 3:20PM
Yeah I was thinking that too. I'm hoping for a full 3D style play similar to Persona 3 or 4. It's not too far off base to think that they would do something similar to the last two Persona games either.
Vegnagun bwf @ Feb 24th 2009 3:40PM
Actually, it looks like I'm wrong. It appears that some things--such as cutscenes and navigating dungeons--will be in 3D, but the battles will be rendered in 2D.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Feb 24th 2009 3:15PM
Ack! Too many RPGs this year! I can't keep up!
Thank goodness the first Persona is getting a remake. I've had Persona since the end of the PSX lifecycle, and I couldn't get into it because it was so ugly even back then. This remake seems to address all of my problems with the original game, so I'm going to be happy.
I hope this also means that we'll someday see a Persona 2 remake with Innocent Sin included. It's so nice to see a quirky but obscure series get some serious love and attention.
ImSteevin @ Feb 24th 2009 3:33PM
EFF I better go dig my PSP out of that hole I put it in in the backyard
Game_playa @ Feb 24th 2009 4:19PM
DO it
offday @ Feb 24th 2009 3:34PM
What's going on? Is there some game convention or something happening right now? My dusty PSP might actually get dusted off soon. There's been like a million PSP game announcements today.
jarhead906 @ Feb 24th 2009 3:34PM
Wow. If I were a PSP owner, I would be creaming my pants in anticipation throughout this year. What the hell has (finally) gotten into Sony?
A Motorstorm title, a LittleBigPlanet title, an exclusive Rock Band game, a version of Assassin's Creed, a version of MLB The Show '09. And to top it all off, Sony is more than likely going to improve their user base with the Hannah Montana specialty bundle. Smart thinking Sony.
"DestinationPlaystation" for the win.
Now give us some great news for PS3... like the 2.7 FW update.
Vegnagun bwf @ Feb 24th 2009 3:37PM
I'm gonna be on that Hannah Montana bundle like emotional teenagers in a Persona game.
Amos @ Feb 24th 2009 8:20PM
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!
Gibbeynater @ Feb 24th 2009 3:56PM
Are we gonna get the actual game, or are we gonna get the US version?
JuanDHexen @ Feb 24th 2009 4:24PM
go psp is your birthday.
moominsean @ Feb 24th 2009 4:51PM
i remember enjoying the original persona game, though it was difficult (at the time). speaking of ancient ps1 games, i'd love to see tecmo's deception released on psp.
Master Bruce @ Feb 24th 2009 4:54PM
Awesome. I've heard a lot of good things about the Persona series but never felt like digging out my PS2 to play them.
TJF588 @ Feb 24th 2009 6:48PM
With P3FES still incomplete (~halfway, I suppose, though likely less) and P4 on the way thanks to Amazon's DotD, perhaps it's best I don't have a PSP. *CC_FFVII- cries moar in its Shinra case*
So, doubting they'd base things on the Americanizations (Arashikou's "make up for past sins" immediately made me think "Innocent Sin" (or "something Sin(s)", at that point), but then Levi typed it with no pun connection *sigh*), do you think they may be nerdy enough (this IS Atlus) to include the Americanizations as an option, unlockable or from-the-get-go? Also, if P2 (which a friend has, at least the case) gets similar dumpage, perhaps I can "get" the references in the P3 "version".
Christian @ Feb 24th 2009 7:06PM
OMG, they are remaking the 1st one for PSP?! I soooooo want this!!!! Can't wait for release to NA.
Ivan @ Feb 27th 2009 10:28PM
Great! I can't wait to have this on my PSP
But I wish Atlus would change the dungeon exploring from first-person perspective to an overhead view like persona 2, now that would've make it more better
