Revolution Software is stepping up efforts to bring back some of its classic adventure IPs. Founder Charles Cecil currently has two games in mind: Beneath a Steel Sky and Broken Sword. The latter series is already undergoing a revival via next month's Broken Sword: Shadows of the Templars (Director's Cut); however, Cecil tells VideoGamer this might only be the beginning.
If the Director's Cut of Shadows of the Templars for Wii and DS are successful, Revolution might consider doing more Director's Cuts for the other Broken Sword titles. This might even entail completely overhauling the 3D Broken Swords (numbers three and four in the series) into 2D versions for Nintendo's systems. A movie tie-in game could also be in the works, as Cecil reveals that Radar Pictures is interested in doing a Broken Sword film.
In the case of Beneath a Steel Sky – another adventure title from the '90s – Cecil says it's "probably going to happen." He's just claiming everyone's too busy to work on it right now. Well, of course; with all those possible Broken Sword projects, it sounds like Revolution will be busy for awhile.

Does anybody remember when Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars was ported to GBA?

Beneath A Steel Sky was awesome.
Watch them fuck it up.

All new games of an old franchise NEVER live up to the exception built by rose tinted memories Even if they make something mind-blowing, someone is going to piss, bitch and moan about why it's not like the original.

There are always going to be people that piss, bitch and moan, (like me when Broken Sword went 3D) but creative criticism can help games to become better in later instalments.
e.g. I (and many others) moaned about the amount of create puzzles in BS3, and as a result BS4 didn’t that many at all. Also the point and click interface came back in the 4th game.
I'll buy any game they make, as long as they're 2D point n click adventure games.

I've never heard of Beneath a Steel Sky, but the name is so cool that I'm considering getting it right now. Is it also a Playstation game?

Yes, please. New Broken Sword. It's a shame they lost the voice actress for Nico along the way, though.

The Nico from BS1 is back for the Director's Cut.

I loved 1-3 of Broken Sword, but the idea of them just remaking 4 makes me so sad. All this energy would be better put to fixing the series with a 5th title.

I hope they bring David Gibbons in for art direction if they make Beneath a Steel Sky 2: Steel Harder.

I loved Beneath a Steel Sky. That, and Gabriel Knight. Those were probably the first two "real" computer games I ever played.

I don't know if this should be an edit or not, if so it goes in both articles, this one and the linked one about the news when it broke. Are they changing the subtitle name from "The Shadow of the Templars" to "Shadows of the Templars."
I love video games, but haven't heard of these. These mainstream or more cultish? Similar to...? Admittedly not a PC gamer historically.

I'll be first in line to buy these 2D versions of 3 and 4.

If only they made 3D action-adventure versions of these games. The main reason the adventure game died because of outdated technology. If only DoubleFine make a 3D Monkey Island after they finish with Brutal Legend. I was looking forward to Alone in the Dark (Puzzles, items) but that sucked...

The first two Broken Sword games were fantastic. 3 was just two different having to use the WASD keys. I'm glad they bought the point n' click back to 4 but it still is the kind of game which just would be better if it was in 2D. I might buy the DS version because I'm not sure the the first Broken Sword will even run on my computer still XP

I loved Beneth a Steel Sky, which was awesome, but still haven't played any Broken Sword games. I'll probably pick up either the Wii or DS one, then hit up the next two on GOG.com.

Great! While I'm all in favour of the remakes (since I never played the originals of this series), I hope they move on from those toward original adventure games for Wii. Of course it will only happen if enough people buy the first one or two.
As long as reviews don't totally suck (i.e. at least in the 70% kind of range), count me in... but I hope the new casual audience is as willing to buy point-and-click adventures as everyone is assuming. (I think probably it is.. but we don't really know for sure yet...)
