The Last Remnant on PC March 24, Steam in April

Square Enix has set a March 24 date for the PC release of its cross-platform RPG The Last Remnant. The Games for Windows title will offer new features not available in the Xbox 360 version, including the ability to choose between English or Japanese dialogue. Enhancements and fixes are also planned, such as improved character animation and faster battles.
In a separate announcement, Valve and Square Enix have confirmed a partnership to bring the latter's catalog of PC titles to the former's Steam service, starting with The Last Remnant on April 9. The game will be the digital distribution platform's first major Japanese RPG offering. Pricing has not yet been announced.
Square Enix president and CEO, John Yamamoto, said of the deal, "We are excited to offer the millions of Steam customers online access to Square Enix titles beginning with our major action RPG, The Last Remnant," adding that, "Square Enix is committed to delivering the best quality titles to PC gamers and distribution on Steam is one of the many steps we are taking to increase accessibility for fans in North America and PAL territories."

should I get this on PC or wait for it to hit PS3??
Rahul (Rurouni Kenshin Forever!) @ Feb 24th 2009 2:07PM
Depends, what are the specs of your computer. If they are high enough, it will look better than the console versions with the ability to play at higher resolutions and so on.
Do you prefer playing on a desk and monitor or couch and HDTV? Though you can hook up your PC to your HDTV and many PC games perfectly support console controllers as well. Many you want the trophies for the PS3 and unless this will be a Games for Windows LIVE title, then no achievements or anything like that.
I think Steam should have an achievements-like system.
koehler83 @ Feb 24th 2009 2:07PM
You mean wait for the official cancellation on PS3?
I'd say wait for pricing.. if it's cheap, go PC.
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 24th 2009 2:08PM
PS3, unless ur PC can handle the power its screams for :O
MowDownJoe @ Feb 24th 2009 2:09PM
@Rahul: Steam does have an achievements system. It's just that no one takes advantage of it.
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 24th 2009 2:09PM
koehler83, its timed, it should be out soon, though I think everyone is more interested in FF13 and Versus atm
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Feb 24th 2009 2:16PM
if I can play Crysis @ 30fps I know my PC can handle this. its Just that something tells me that the PS3 version wont be out til next year or very late this year anyways.
and Koehler get over yourself. look at the cover. does it say "ONLY ON XBOX 360"???? I didnt think so....
Maverick Saturn @ Feb 24th 2009 2:26PM
'A PS3 version has been announced but that's about it. No release dates for any territories.'
As Rahul stated

Like the other guy said, Steam does have achievements (mostly on Valve games and a couple of indie titles). Though I think FEAR 2 uses them?
flanker22 @ Feb 24th 2009 3:06PM
lol ps3
Discotheque @ Feb 24th 2009 6:11PM
Neither....it's shit.
But if you have to go with a decision pick it up on PC when it gets cheaper. Not to troll or anything but if you have a decent rig the PC version always outclasses the console versions.
Einhanderkiller @ Feb 24th 2009 6:26PM
The game doesn't seem all that graphic intensive (it doesn't look that pretty, either). I ran the benchmark tool and hit 60+ FPS at 1680x1050 on my nearly 2-year-old 8800 GTS. I'm assuming the benchmark tool runs at maxed out settings.
The Baron @ Feb 24th 2009 6:50PM
How did they manage to make the game run great on most PC's but terribly on 360's?
My shelf is full of awful PC ports which do the opposite.
flanker22 @ Feb 28th 2009 4:49AM
b/c unreal engine. also TLR does run pretty well if you just install it.
LordJezo @ Feb 24th 2009 2:05PM
I wonder if a Windows Live account will be required..
pika2000 @ Feb 24th 2009 2:05PM
Japanese voice? And for PC? Buy! Why didn't Squenix do this for the 360 in the first place?
KiraXD @ Feb 24th 2009 3:03PM
Space issues? Which is why they can do it on pc (might do it for ps3 version?)
Rahul (Rurouni Kenshin Forever!) @ Feb 24th 2009 3:08PM
What do you mean space issues? The PC version will be on a dual layer DVD like the 360 version.
But on another note, its a real shame to see almost all multi-platform games on the PS3 and the Blu-Ray capacity fully wasted, no additional content, nothing. I hear Dynasty Warriors 6's pre-rendered videos are better quality than the 360 due to no compression but thats about it.
KiraXD @ Feb 24th 2009 3:15PM
1 single disc? well if thats the case then i dont know... i had just assumed this was the reason for most games not including additional audio (for all platforms)
also, SE might have considered the demographic for x360 users and ommited the audio to save time/money?
Einhanderkiller @ Feb 24th 2009 6:27PM
Rahul, the content on the PC DVD can be compressed more as it doesn't have to be streamed off the disc on-the-fly like the 360 version.
Josh @ Feb 24th 2009 2:07PM
I wonder how it will run...
And what about the PS3 version?
Rahul (Rurouni Kenshin Forever!) @ Feb 24th 2009 2:08PM
A PS3 version has been announced but that's about it. No release dates for any territories.
Guibs @ Feb 24th 2009 2:30PM
There is a PC benchmark tool for this game available for download. Just google it . It allows you to know if you Pc will handle the game or not. I tried it and averaged more than 100FPS so I wouldn't be too woried about most PCs to run it.
for your informaton, my specs are:
E8400 @ 3.0GHZ
NVDIA 280GTX @ 1650X1080
4GB RAM
VISTA 32BITS
Josh @ Feb 24th 2009 2:38PM
Well I'm positive my personal PCs would not at all be able to run it, but I'm just wondering in general if any of the technical issues of the 360 version will be present in the PC version.
Perhaps the brute force of powerful PC hardware will be able to mask any inefficient graphics programming in the game (if that's what caused the 360 versions' graphics issues in the first place).
Rahul (Rurouni Kenshin Forever!) @ Feb 24th 2009 2:40PM
The benchmark is located here.

Need more JRPGs on PC.
Gibbeynater @ Feb 24th 2009 2:43PM
Oooooh, please tell me they're going to throw the Final Fantasy 7 and 8 ports on there. With updated graphics. And a new translation. And a bestiary. And a post game dungeon.
justinslot @ Feb 24th 2009 3:04PM
That's what I was thinking, but not even redone versions, just the old ones optimized for contemporary Windows (like GOG does with old games.) Of course if they won't throw those games up as PSOne Classics I doubt they'll rerelease the PC versions either.
Rhamsey @ Feb 24th 2009 3:37PM
wait, was this the really bad one? or was it the other square game. they both came out around the same time, and i cant remember which is which.
Christian @ Feb 24th 2009 7:12PM
I wonder will this have LIVE achievemetns or Steam Achievements...
