Don't call it a comeback: 'Where's Waldo?' game in production

Waldo hasn't been working the video game circuit for quite some time -- although he does have an online presence. He had some PC outings in the mid-'90s, but his most recent console adventures appear to be a couple of laughable NES and Super NES games from the early '90s. The new game will have players finding several objects beyond the titled protagonist, with up to four players working cooperatively or competitively. At least today's gaming hardware should be able to render the mess that is one of the Where's Waldo? pictures.

This feels like it should be on the DS, both for content (I'm not saying that all the DS games are "kiddie" games, as they obviously aren't; much of the recent releases have been family-oriented as Nintendo is refocusing itself somewhat, but please don't interpret that as a slight against the DS) and for the method of gameplay.
L3thal Interjection @ Feb 25th 2009 4:13AM
I was thinking along those same lines except the Wii was the first to come to mind. Multiple pointers could compete to find Waldo first.
Martin Greenberg @ Feb 25th 2009 8:02AM
Oh, that's a good idea too; I hadn't thought of that.
tmmoore_nc @ Feb 25th 2009 3:18AM
Clearly this will be the best game ever made.
EndCat @ Feb 25th 2009 4:05AM
No doubt. Better than Killzone 2. :-O
ChiTownRuler23 @ Feb 25th 2009 4:18AM
this will be GOTY 09 fuck killzone 2
...this is gonna be fun :D
Foetoid @ Feb 25th 2009 5:00AM
"MadWorld will be GOTY 09 fuck killzone 2"
Agreed.
sjenky @ Feb 25th 2009 3:23AM
How about an open world, first-person 'where's Waldo' RPG based on Unreal Engine 3? That's what the kids want these days..
Premature ejaculation man @ Feb 25th 2009 4:28AM
Online multiplayer mode will be freakin' awesome I hear. I'm gonna be Odlaw.
sjenky @ Feb 25th 2009 8:01AM
Yeah! Only, you couldn't choose your own nickname, you'd have to base it on Waldo so the leaderboards would look something like:
1. Waldowned
2. Waldork
3. Waldoesntcare
Lekko @ Feb 25th 2009 3:27AM
It's going to be one of those damn scary face jump out at you games, isn't it?

I can see Waldo as a space marine.
Tiptup300 @ Feb 25th 2009 3:44AM
Was it someone else or me who said it would be awesome to use the Ass. Creed's people tech to make a where's waldo game?
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Feb 25th 2009 11:44AM
I'm still waking up, so at first I thought you said, "it would be awesome to use the Ass."
Dave @ Feb 25th 2009 3:47AM
OMG I forgot all about him. Where's Waldo in Hollywood. That one was awesome.
Killiam XXIII @ Feb 25th 2009 3:55AM
In Soviet Russia, Waldo finds you!
WorMzy @ Feb 25th 2009 4:24AM
I haven't seen a Where's Wally book in years. Takes me back.
Foetoid @ Feb 25th 2009 5:08AM
Why is there a 'Wheres Wally' and 'Wheres Waldo'. Different series or region change?
Ad-man @ Feb 25th 2009 6:49AM
@ Foetoid
Presumably region, in the UK at least it's Wally (which definately has a better ring to it than 'Waldo' IMO)... unless they're inter-continental twins :-/
Kyle @ Feb 25th 2009 7:11AM
Yeah I never understood why they changed it to Wally here in England.
Foetoid @ Feb 25th 2009 7:22AM
I still remember the jingle from the Wheres Wally TV show here in Australia. I can't imagine it with 'Waldo' in it, would sound kinda homo.
Tamyu @ Feb 25th 2009 7:39AM
Wally is the original - not the changed version. For some reason they changed it from Wally to Waldo when it was released in the US. The first books were published with the Wally title in the UK.
jbrun85 @ Feb 25th 2009 11:03AM
@tamyu
Waldo is where the true heart of the series lies. Wally coming first doesnt matter. Characters grow into new names and forms. Waldo is the man we need to find.
Wally/Waldo's arch-nemesis? Odlaw.
That is true in both regions! Long Live Waldo!
Meloche @ Feb 25th 2009 7:37PM
Here, Waldo's name is... Charlie. And Odlaw's name is... Pouah.
Yeah, it seems we're not cool enough for Waldo.

Perhaps a ridiculously hilarious Admin is fucking with your posts.
Reader @ Feb 25th 2009 5:47AM
Crazy.... was thinking the other day how tight it'd be to make a Where's Waldo game.
AwesomeTown @ Feb 25th 2009 7:20AM
Long time coming.
LegendaryRedass @ Feb 25th 2009 8:23AM
I've been "here" for years.
Robotic Earthling @ Feb 25th 2009 10:49AM
This game is going to sell horribly for the sole reason that no one will be able to find it.
D-5 @ Feb 25th 2009 1:54PM
The NES version was hard...Waldo did not look like Waldo in that version.
Nuclear Chauffeur @ Feb 26th 2009 1:40AM
Fun fact: Bethesda Softworks created the Where's Waldo NES Game.
