We were jazzed to hear that Jonathan Blow's introspective chrono-manipulative platformer
Braid would be making its way
onto PCs via Stardock's digital distribution service Impulse -- though we wondered why Blow hadn't set up a wider launch platform for the computerfied adaptation of his XBLA indie hit.
Hothead's agreement to bring the title to Macs was a step in the right direction, but we've just received word of a huge movement to further propagate the plight of Mr. Tim -- a Valve presser just confirmed that
Braid is on its way to Steam.
It'll be hitting the popular digital distribution platform on March 31 (the same day as Impulse's
Braid launch) at a price point of $14.99. That's a whole
four cents more expensive than the title's cost on Impulse. Man, isn't that just like Valve? Always trying to
nickel and dime penny and four-penny the little man.

That's because Steam is damn near perfect.
AkaMagi @ Feb 25th 2009 4:06PM
Do you remember when people hated Steam?
My, how far we've come.
Sambo @ Feb 25th 2009 4:09PM
I remember, when i had my crazy 2.4 P4 cpu and 512MB of RAM, it killed you and I hated it. But now it is so good i hate to think how much money I've spent on it. Even EA has succumbed to it.

Just to let everyone know, Braid is 33% off on XBLM for Gold members right now.
I wonder if it will retain the achievements over Steam.
Smurfy @ Feb 25th 2009 4:02PM
It will.
tkAshur @ Feb 25th 2009 9:18PM
Yah, why hasn't this site mentioned the sale yet? I'm sure anyone with xbox live account has seen it, but still. I picked it up during this 33% off, and am I glad I did!
t_m @ Feb 26th 2009 3:44AM
@tkAshur:
You mean like this:
http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/02/22/discounted-braid-re-launches-xblms-deal-of-the-week-program/
Its because joystiq is anti 360!
SytheMaster @ Feb 25th 2009 4:15PM
I don't know why, since I already own this on my 360, but I want to buy it again!
Courtney @ Feb 25th 2009 4:33PM
I haven't seen any signs of this, but if there was a significant addition of content (more levels, more secrets, etc.), I would likely buy it again. Particularly if there was a Steam sale going on.
Unfortunately, I doubt there are extras, seems like Blow is satisfied with what he released.
Rhamsey @ Feb 25th 2009 4:16PM
well i just picked this up on monday, and beat it today (two of the puzzle pieces were giving me trouble) and i have to say, well worth the buy.
I Like Corn @ Feb 25th 2009 4:34PM
Yeah, if you have a 360, I'd suggest just going for the XBLA version. It's 800 points this week, so it's cheaper. Plus, I really doubt platformers will benefit much from PC controls.
If you don't have a 360, then it makes sense to get the PC version. Or if you're one of those Steam zealots.
I personally still hate Steam, and prefer to just get an executable. Preferably direct from the developer. Since my PC is mostly used for indie titles, this is usually fairly possible.
Foetoid @ Feb 25th 2009 4:39PM
Definate immediate purchase for me!. I've always wanted to play this game, i've heard nothing but good things, but i'm a huge Steam can and will only play it on that. Thanks Steam!
Levi @ Feb 25th 2009 5:46PM
Man, something about trying to post comment from my 1st gen iPhone really just... well it only works around 50% of the time, from the main site or the i.blah.blah site.
Anyway, I'm a little bit more pumped that it's going to be on Steam, but I'm still holding out for the chance of a PSN port. The couch-and-controller effect seems like it would suit this game better than laptop-and-controller. Plus I would like to get eh trophies :)
The Baron @ Feb 25th 2009 6:38PM
I wonder what the £ price will be, now that Steam doesn't charge in dollars all over the world.
bvhj @ Feb 25th 2009 8:04PM
£9.99 my good man
J Dubs @ Feb 25th 2009 9:22PM
I'm going to pick this up on Steam when they make it 50% off 3 months down the line.
Jason @ Feb 25th 2009 11:16PM
Ok, enough! This is a great game, and I highly recommend it. But it AMAZES me how much press this damn thing gets!
First it's overpriced, and then blow has an interview, then everyone hates him, then everyone loves him, then the reviews come and everyone is happy once again.
Now there's literally 10 press releases AGAIN about how this game is hitting PC, and it's priced at $20... oh wait, NO, now it's priced $15... hehe, just kidding. Oh and now there's another article about how it's hitting steam, and then another about how it's dropping price on XBLA for $10.
I swear, this game has gotten more press than Halo 1, 2, and 3 combined! Props to the Blow-man for executing some excellent marketing... but seriously, NO MORE press on this game, PLEASE!
