Calendar clarification: God of War 3, MAG before March 2010

Had your hopes up that God of War III and Zipper Interactive's "massive action game," MAG, would be all up in your PS3 before January 1, Ought-10 rolled around? Better let them down ... gently. Following two disparate announcements -- one saying both games (among others) would hit within calendar 2009; the other citing fiscal 2009 -- Sony has confirmed to Joystiq that the release window is, in fact, the latter: before March 1, 2010.
Two other games listed in the original press release are pretty much locked for release within the year, though. Heavy Rain, Quantic Dreams' dreamy-looking adventure game, was confirmed for calendar '09 release last August. The Sucker Punch developed action-platformer, inFamous, is coming "this spring," according to a packaging insert going out with tomorrow's major release, Killzone 2.

Fiscal 09 would end at the END of March 2010, so they could release any time in March 2010 unless the quote they gave you said specifically before the 1st.
Ash @ Feb 27th 2009 8:42AM
Bah, typed my numbers wrong. Fiscal 09 would be March 2009. Fiscal 10 would be March 2010. But still, it runs until the end of March.
InFaMoUs1- @ Feb 26th 2009 6:37PM
cant wait for MAG, got sick of that piece of shit Socom Confrontation. S2 was still the best!
Hyams @ Feb 26th 2009 6:41PM
Pretty much conforms to what I was expecting: GOWIII early '10.
Still, I suppose it should be noted that this doesn't neccesarily mean that it won't be releasing this (calendar) year. There's still a chance.
rohan @ Feb 26th 2009 6:58PM
GOW3 will hit in march just like the other 3
St.McDuck @ Feb 26th 2009 6:42PM
As long as I get my Uncharted 2 this year, nobody will have to feel my wrath.
iFester @ Feb 26th 2009 6:43PM
To think if that MAG game were playable over Xbox Live it would be re-dubbed Major Assholes Gaming. :D I should watch Spaceballs again.
j.howlett @ Feb 26th 2009 9:19PM
if it came to xbox they'd have to spend live money for servers. and you're surrounded by assholes
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 26th 2009 6:46PM
I dont think anyone seriously thought God of War 3 would come out in 2009, so this is no surprise. Still shaping up to be a great year for ps3 either way though.
Getting killzone 2 in 15 hours. I....I can't stop shaking!
Hyams @ Feb 26th 2009 7:01PM
2008:
Metal Gear Solid 4,
LittleBigPlanet,
Resistance 2,
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift,
Valkyria Chronicles.
2009:
Killzone 2,
Uncharted 2,
InFamous,
Heavy Rain,
Ratchet and Clank,
Quantum Theory,
White Knight Story.
2010:
God of War III,
Gran Turismo 5,
Final Fantasy 13,
MAG,
Resistance 3.
Every year is the year of the PS3. =P
Longhorn4Life (PSN MariusElijah) @ Feb 26th 2009 7:12PM
Resistance 3? i dont think thats possible since #2 flopped.
You forgot Twisted Metal in 2010 and maybe Kingdom Hearts 3
Hyams @ Feb 26th 2009 7:20PM
Well, Resistance 2 is selling considerably better than the origional, and that obviously sold well enough to warrant a sequal. Not to mention that there's also a PSP Resistance game coming out, so the franchise is obviously important to Sony.
Also, Resistance 2 ends on a massive cliffhanger.
But even if Insomniac chose not to make Resistance 3, they'd just make something else instead (they release one game a year, like clockwork), so I suppose you chould just replace Resistance 3 with whatever the name game is.
patapon_rocker (The Old slycooper_rocker) @ Feb 26th 2009 10:43PM
i'm not expecting resistance 3 in 2010. i need some ratchet & clank love first before you guys even plan that. and sucker punch, when you guys wrap up infamous, give my old buddy sly cooper a call. and sega, i want my valkyria chronicles DLC, kthxbai!
sk8monroe81 @ Feb 27th 2009 3:01AM
hyams. hi.
and yes i agree a resistance 3 is all but confirmed officially, because of how the game ends. i enjoyed playing the game much, was let down at the non story based co-op, but overall it was a good game and enjoyed by me.
Mr Khan @ Feb 26th 2009 6:56PM
I assumed MAG would be sooner, but i could see that game as being one that would need to be tweaked and re-tweaked to insure network stability
As for inFamous, it seems to have had its thunder stolen by Prototype, but mayhap the genius Sucker Punch showed with Sly Cooper will shine through
Dirty @ Feb 26th 2009 11:01PM
The last episode of gametrailers featured infamous and it really impressed me there. While I think Prototype will be all around better I dont see why both cant succeed despite their very similar play types.
Dehshizknight @ Feb 26th 2009 6:56PM
This is a great year since we know for sure other games like Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank are coming out this year for sure.
If God of War III comes out in March, I'm good since it's been the month of release for all the God of War games.

Fiscal 2009. they kill me with that. most likely means God of War 3 in March next year. Worth the wait, but still sucks
RPMd70 @ Feb 26th 2009 7:38PM
FINALLY!!! Some kinda news on MAG. geez.
samik @ Feb 26th 2009 7:43PM
I think its going to be Ratchet and Clank this year and Resistance 3 next year with a substantially improved engine - hope they keep the online coop. And yeah, Resistance 2 and LBP both flopped and their overall sales are already close to that of Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock
Kodros @ Feb 26th 2009 8:09PM
I still wouldn't call LBP a flop. 2 Million for a new IP isn't bad at all.
KarlW @ Feb 27th 2009 4:07AM
The usual logic is that better quality games have more sales.
That isn't the case for LBP. It didn't sell as well as expected, but there's a consensus even among the Xbox crowd that it's a great game and highly original. Given the number of awards it's won, I'd say they got it right.
I don't care about games that sell well, I care about good games. They should be the same thing, but in LBP's case they're not.
AkaMagi @ Feb 27th 2009 10:03AM
LBP may have "sold" 2 million copies, but that's because throughout Europe it's bin in the bargin bin in it's pricing. In the UK, you can get it as cheap as £17, which converts to a little less than $25. Plus it's been in system bundles as well.
It's retail sales at full price have been very low for the high quality game that it is.
JuanDHexen @ Feb 26th 2009 7:50PM
Their services are not required this year. Now I games to look foward to in 2010
joe @ Feb 26th 2009 9:17PM
March 2010, would be fiscal year 2010, not 2009 (assuming their FY ends 3/31). Fiscal years are always based on when they END even if most of that fiscal year is in a different calendar year.
IOW, whoever said 2009 initially was full of crap.
