Excitebots: Trick Racing rolls onto Wii April 20
If you've ever wished, as we have, that the Battle Bots could work their differences out in a more peaceful fashion, you'll be happy to hear that Nintendo has just announced that Excitebots: Trick Racing will be headed to the Wii on April 20.
Now as for what, exactly, Excitebots: Trick Racing is, we're a little sketchy. We know it uses the Wii Wheel, "builds on the Excitebike and Excite Truck franchises" and contains "elements that make it one of the more unique racing games on the market." So, still a lot of questions at this point, but, for a time at least, there will be peace in the robot world. Isn't that the important thing?

A sequel to one of the most criminally underrated games on the console? I'm in!
Why bots, though? I would've been more than happy with just trucks, or some mixture of different vehicles ala Motorstorm.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 26th 2009 9:46AM
Why *not* bots? If we can have robots fucking dinosaurs on the internet, why not have them chase eachother around for fun?
Platy @ Feb 26th 2009 10:26PM
I know a robot who transformed into a truck ....
Ridgecity @ Feb 28th 2009 5:35PM
You don't feel bad if a robot dies in a giant crash. Unless it's Johnny 5, man, that scene made me cry, and felt really happy when he got gold-platted.
Probably that's where the Monstercable people got their inspiration from.
EMaster @ Feb 26th 2009 9:27AM
I can already assure that anyone who buys this game will have in fact a "Trick" pulled on them by being conned to by this game.
Insight @ Feb 26th 2009 9:29AM
I have yet to play a game in the Excite series I didn't enjoy.
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:31PM
How so EMaster?
Markez @ Feb 26th 2009 4:35PM
ExciteTruck was an incredibly awesome game. So this has some real potential. Soooo, you're wrong, and mildly but not really clever.
Ridgecity @ Feb 28th 2009 5:36PM
Considering you like Mercedes Benz, you seem to know about companies pulling tricks on you for your money.
Mr Khan @ Feb 26th 2009 9:27AM
Ahh Nintendo. Always knows exactly how to thoroughly rouse curiosity then do nothing at all to satisfy it. For the sake of them being bots alone, i shall certainly look forward to seeing something
baby sea tuna @ Feb 26th 2009 9:32AM
Excitetruck was an acceptable launch game because it was not only the first Wii racing game, but also one of the few launch games that didn't have totally borked motion controls. Now that Mario Kart is out, doesn't that sort of make this a bit unnecessary?
Insight @ Feb 26th 2009 9:36AM
Excite Truck was a good game in its own right. The multiplayer sucked, but it had an enjoyable single player with plenty to unlock. Plus, it was the first (and only, I think) Wii game to support custom soundtracks.
Mr Khan @ Feb 26th 2009 9:37AM
I believe Endless Ocean also supported Custom soundtracks
baby sea tuna @ Feb 26th 2009 9:43AM
Ah, Endless Ocean. Yet another in a series of games I picked up (No More Heroes, Onechanbara) to try and prove that I can still tolerate third-party Japanese titles.
Turns out I can't...but I'll probably keep trying (Loco Roco 2, Persona 4...you're next!)
Ridgecity @ Feb 28th 2009 5:44PM
Excitetruck is pretty good. Of course Mario Kart is more polished but they are different racing games.
It's like comparing Pure vs Need For Speed..
Karen @ Feb 26th 2009 9:37AM
I spent many happy hours playing the first one. I hope they add online play and multiplayer for the crash mode. I'd also have liked to see more vehicle types.
ScottG13 @ Feb 26th 2009 9:37AM
Nintendo continues to produce games I won't buy. Nice one guys.
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:39PM
Thats a good point ScottG13, until Nintendo starts making games specifically designed for ScottG13 (and nobody eles) you should boycott them.. that'll show em!
ScottG13 @ Feb 26th 2009 4:52PM
I didn't say they can't make them for anyone else, as well. I just prefer some games for 18-35 year old males.
Is that unfair to ask?
I guess I sort of am boycotting them. They aren't making much money from me if they can't produce a purchasable product. I'd say I've bought 20 or so games for other platforms and probably 30 if you include DLC games since I bought Boom Blox...
Ridgecity @ Feb 28th 2009 5:40PM
They should make a Kenny Rogers' Cooking Grampa, which seems more fit for your tastes.
Eggman @ Feb 26th 2009 9:44AM
Awesome game, guaranteed, like every Excite game made so far.
flameofdoom666 @ Feb 26th 2009 9:48AM
Bots...? O Rly?!
Kevin @ Feb 26th 2009 10:01AM
I would love for this to be uniracers-ish.
8-bit.artist @ Feb 26th 2009 11:10AM
forget uniracers-ish. gives us uniracers 2!
Lee @ Feb 26th 2009 10:20AM
So glad I picked up Excite trucks for $20 is some crazy sale. one of the most fun to play racers i've played. Hope this continues with a similar formula... but bots? what kind of bots? boogie bots? RObots?
Jeramy @ Feb 26th 2009 11:00AM
Just what everyone needs to celebrate with on 4/20, right?
CJLopez @ Feb 26th 2009 11:01AM
Man, i'd rather have it named R.C. Pro-Am Wii, xDDDDDD
Loved that game to no end. Just recentrly discovered those were Radio controlled cars, xDDDDD, hence the R.C. on the title and the little antennas on the car. Always though those were radio antennas, xDDDDDDDD
phenylketonurics @ Feb 26th 2009 1:20PM
Dude yes! I completely forgot about that game until now. Ingenius, imagine the 3D mode...
And on topic, Excite Truck kills me to this day. Unless it's playable with a classic/gamecube controller [and I didn't know], I'm utter rubbish with the title. For those of us with absolutely no hand-eye coordination [which kind of defeats the gameplay factor... a little], attempting games like this is a laughing riot.
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:43PM
That would rock, a new R.C. Pro-Am for anything would rock, as long as they kept the R.C feel (top down view is needed).. Picture 4 (local) 8 (online) players and user made courses would be great..
dantebk @ Feb 26th 2009 11:25AM
Awesome! I love ExciteTrucks. I'm ready to be excited once again! Let's do this!
mr mobius @ Feb 26th 2009 11:54AM
Has potential. If I get time, I might get round to playing Excite Trucks. I had heard mixed reviews when it was released regarding the control scheme.
Be interesting to hear about it. Sounds like could be a mix of Excite style gaming, and Wipeout style weaponry.
sea @ Feb 26th 2009 1:02PM
Comes out in April? That's... two months away. Obviously this game has been in the works for some time, and Nintendo is always one to tout its own releases. The fact that I've heard nothing about this previously is concerning, especially with the release date so near. Maybe Nintendo doesn't have much confidence in it?
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:45PM
They did kinda do that with Disaster didnt they? And that kinda looked like a turd.
sam @ Feb 26th 2009 6:21PM
Disaster was known about for like a year before release, if not more. It also wasn't all that bad (a bit mixed).
Nintendo isn't exactly new to the 'keeping games secret until shortly before release' plan. I wouldn't assume the secrecy has any bearing on quality.
TracerBullet @ Feb 26th 2009 2:25PM
So, Nintendo DO have some cards on their sleeves this year.
Looking foward more news about this, been wanting a good racing game for a long time. This seems very promissing.
juangrande386 @ Feb 26th 2009 2:46PM
ill keep an eye on this cause i bought excite truck with twilight princess at launch and i actually loved it until mario kart came out and i havent touched it since. i do really wish nintendo would make a sequal to excite bike 64 that game was so fuckin great.
juangrande386 @ Feb 26th 2009 2:54PM
"We know it uses the Wii Wheel"- is this even necessary to type since technically every wii game can use the wheel since its just a piece of plastic
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:51PM
Its easier to say "it uses the wiimote" then "hold the wiimote in the same fashion you would a nes controler, and tilt it left or right (assuming the pivot point is in the middle of the wiimote) to turn". The wheel wouldnt work too well with the god father or boom blox.
