Rumor: Climax developing Silent Hill remake for Wii, PSP
Our good friends at the rumor mill are at it again, this time churning out a most delicious prospect: a Silent Hill remake for the Wii and PSP. Supposedly under development at Climax, a report suggests that the return trip to Silent Hill is one of two Konami projects at the studio, the other being (according to job listings) a "ground breaking next-gen game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360."
We've asked Konami and Climax for comment and we'll be sure to update you as soon as we receive a response.

Wasn't the Wii "not hardcore enough for Silent Hill", Konami?
Lee @ Feb 26th 2009 12:11PM
Everything changes when you have sold 46million consoles.
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 26th 2009 3:00PM
Don't worry, it's hardcore enough to handle a 12 year old PS1 game....but just barely.
Cat Farmer @ Feb 26th 2009 10:46AM
As long as it isn't another on rails-shooter.
Nigeria @ Feb 26th 2009 10:57AM
The Silent Hill arcade game isn't THAT bad. A little rough around the edges, but definitely tolerable enough.
Just to piss off the internet, I hope it is another rail shooter. Every Wii game from hereon in should be a rail shooter.
TwEE @ Feb 26th 2009 4:10PM
"Just to piss off the internet, I hope it is another rail shooter. Every Wii game from hereon in should be a rail shooter."
Thats a good idea, and just to push everybody over the edge every 360/PS3 game should control exactly like Resident Evil 5.
MLS @ Feb 26th 2009 10:49AM
I don't think it's true, and even if it was, it would have to meet the bar Capcom set with the Gamecube Resident Evil.
lasersanchez @ Feb 26th 2009 10:53AM
Sweet! The original could use a facelift and better voice acting.
Comtar @ Feb 26th 2009 11:27AM
Oddly enough your icon is very Silent Hill appropriate.
Gavin @ Feb 26th 2009 12:12PM
Meh, it'll suck. The same reason why the Nintendo remake of Metal Gear Solid sucked: they'll try to 'show more' with 'better graphics' and completely destroy the mood and pacing of the original. Honestly, a lot of these titles were as good as they were on the PSOne for what they didn't show...
lasersanchez @ Feb 26th 2009 1:53PM
Do you have any reasons MGS Twin Snakes sucked or just completely vague claims?
SoshiKitai @ Feb 26th 2009 6:37PM
As far as I know, people claimed Twin Snakes sucked because "Snake seemed less human, more super agent. In the Playstation version, he felt like an ordinary man, sent in to do an impossible mission."
...yep, that's what I always get when I ask them.
VeHeMeNcE @ Feb 26th 2009 10:53AM
Yes please!
jekoln @ Feb 26th 2009 11:01AM
while it might be lazy to remake games over and over again (nintendo), i'd love to see the first silent hill get the treatment. the first two games will always be the best.
Rocketboy @ Feb 26th 2009 11:53AM
First and Third for me, but First trumps all with sheer spookyness.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Feb 26th 2009 12:35PM
2nd and 3rd for me but you have to give credit to the original.Homecoming was good too except it suffers from the Fable 2 syndrome. The first 2 parts are awesome and the final part is 1 hour long and it doesn't bother to wrap things up.
TX2 @ Feb 26th 2009 9:26PM
Am I the only one who wants the 4th one? It would probably benefit the most from a new control scheme, and it definitely had the best villain out of all the games.
8-bit.artist @ Feb 26th 2009 11:04AM
MAKE A NEW GAME GOD DAMNIT
MLS @ Feb 26th 2009 11:10AM
huh? They just did, like 6-8 months ago.
Jampirow @ Feb 26th 2009 11:16AM
And it sucked. Hard.
Gavin @ Feb 26th 2009 12:14PM
Make a new franchise, even, maybe. How much of SIlent Hill's backstory don't we know? They've covered a lot in the past 5+ games...
8-bit.artist @ Feb 26th 2009 12:34PM
@mls
i meant a new game for wii. not wiimakes.
Kattleox @ Feb 26th 2009 11:05AM
Thanks, Nintendo, and thanks to Wii support, I have good PSP games to keep me from getting a DS!
um..wow @ Feb 26th 2009 11:07AM
Yahtzee will probably drop a brick over this.
Maulok @ Feb 26th 2009 11:09AM
I could like the original Silent Hill with a graphical upgrade from the PS1. I tried to play it a few weeks ago after buying up (and quickly trading) the disappointing Homecoming on clearance. Spooky game, but it just doesn't hold up visually like I thought it would.
jekoln @ Feb 26th 2009 11:15AM
yeah, they didn't even have faces.
Gavin @ Feb 26th 2009 12:16PM
If they literally make the what it was, but with the in-game graphics the quality of the cut scenes found in the original game (and seamlessly transition from cut scene to game play) I'd be fine with it.
But you know they're going to cock up the story, pacing, and probably even the game play
required @ Feb 26th 2009 11:17AM
it'll be PSP for me
Kyle Nichol @ Feb 26th 2009 11:20AM
Silent Hill is one of the few games yet to be released as a PSone Classic in Japan, I'd be quite interested in a Silent Hill Wii game.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 26th 2009 11:23AM
Is the SH game on PSP that's out already any good? I just bought a PSP the other day and I'm on the lookout for some good games.
Personally, I thought Homecoming was okay. Like a "7" okay.
Comtar @ Feb 26th 2009 11:29AM
Homecoming was good, but this is done by the guys who did Silent Hill Zero, which I'd give more of a "5" to.
borntokill @ Feb 26th 2009 11:49AM
Its the best survival horror on a portable system by miles. And its also the worst Silent Hill entry by miles. Still if you need a fix, its very playable.
Neuromancer @ Feb 26th 2009 12:18PM
I'm working my way through it, it's OK.
dronesensor @ Feb 26th 2009 3:27PM
@ borntokill
If you think Origins is any worse than SH4, you're a fool. Sure, it had a shitty, forced fan-service story (so did SH3, though), but it's a hell of a lot scarier than SH3, 4, or Homecoming.
Comtar @ Feb 26th 2009 1:08PM
I think the footage of that unreleased game Frozen proved the Wii could make something Silent Hill like. Personally I am excited for this, but at the same time not, because it's made by the people who made the god awful Silent Hill Zero.
Silent Hill Zero had a lot of predictable scares. The original had moments that scared you, like one time you hear a window shatter like something just busted through the room with you when you were looking away. But when you check the window, it's completely intact and everything is fine. It scares you on two fronts, first being the sound, then it being the "Sorry, that was fucked up. Nothing wrong." factor.
Levi @ Feb 26th 2009 11:31AM
The first game is by far my favorite in the series. I still have my original black label copy for PS1.
Honestly, there's tons of games if love to re-buy of remade on the Wii with new controls. Maybe it's remakes that will get other developers (like EA) to stop making rail shooters (Dead Space) and start making real games (RE4... Wait that's a remake too...)
Sean Aaron @ Feb 26th 2009 11:54AM
Bushido Blade 1&2 collection next Square-Enix!
SoshiKitai @ Feb 26th 2009 12:08PM
But they could screw that up SO HARD. :(
...I mean, Bushido Blade with Red Steel controls??? D:
Only hint it after we see how good the Motion+ is.
SoshiKitai @ Feb 26th 2009 12:08PM
...or were you talking about for the PSP?
...if so, then, OF COURSE. :P
Sean Aaron @ Feb 26th 2009 12:16PM
No I was talking about the Wii and I don't think motion controls are necessary. Hell I don't remember Bushido Blade using that many buttons to start with...
Gavin @ Feb 26th 2009 12:18PM
Don't get me wrong, I love BB 1... but 2? They took everything good about the original and destroyed it. (almost as bad as Tenchu 2 did in that franchise...)
SoshiKitai @ Feb 26th 2009 12:33PM
How could you not enjoy Tenchu 2's map editor?
That thing was awesome to mess with friends!
You can make the most hilarious missions in that thing!
...and yeah, Bushido Blade doesn't NEED motion controls... but developers love to stick it on there "just for good measure". :P
Shoyz @ Feb 26th 2009 12:10PM
And I -just- relayed it on my PSP!
Oh well. I have a PSP and a Wii, will either have an advantage other than screen-size or Portability?
sam @ Feb 26th 2009 6:18PM
Well you'll have to wait and see. I never played the game, but unless it has any 'shooting' segments (ie where you have to aim at the screen for some reason) then there's not necessarily a big advantage for the Wii controls. The graphics should be better on Wii, but that hasn't always been the case for Wii/PSP cross-platform titles...
Anyhow, regardless of my doubts of the quality of Wii/PSP cross-platform developments - oh and of the farming-it-out-to-random-Western-developer business model - I'll be cautiously optimistic :)
Dante G @ Feb 26th 2009 12:13PM
This sounds interesting. They could do wonders with the remote speaker to freak you out...
Lee @ Feb 26th 2009 12:13PM
HO YEA. Hope its true. I'd download the PS1-PSP version but I'd rather not deal with crappy aspect ratios being all broke.
Deeznuts420 @ Feb 26th 2009 12:27PM
but will it have canoes?
MLS @ Feb 26th 2009 12:46PM
Yes! But since it's Silent Hill, they'll be made of flesh.
Now I feel like listening to Animal Collective.
Miku @ Feb 26th 2009 12:44PM
Aww, leave well enough alone can't you? I still play the original Silent Hill now and then and sure, the graphics are crap, but why does that really matter? You just know a re-make is going to end up completely spoiling the feel of Silent Hill, the way Origin and Homecoming did.
CypherVR @ Feb 26th 2009 1:07PM
PSP & Wii-Make please
