Various members from the popular video game forum NeoGAF have teamed up in an outstanding collaboration to recreate the classic NES game Contra within LittleBigPlanet. The iconic 2D shooter is revived in LBP thanks to the addition of the "Paintinator" in the Metal Gear Solid level pack. The massive project spans eight different levels, each painstakingly recreated in the LBP engine. Impressive, yes -- but we're wondering how long it will stay on the servers before the moderation team shuts it down for its obvious copyright infringement.
Update: There are 8 stages in total and 7 authors on the LittleBigContra team. You can find them on the PlayStation Network as follows:

You're actually right and wrong...the code has only one B and one A, but it also works with an extra B and an A, and the select + start is for 2 players
Also, we made a sticker with the code on it that is applicable to most of the levels title screens to grant the player extra lives :)
this is freaking awesome!!!!!! i remember playing that game when i was a little boy, i just hope i coul play it before it will be removed.... damn copyrights.... i remember when the lbp came out, thay say that if you build great stages it could give you a job.. does any one remeber reading that aslo?? maybe.. just maybe this could give them a job

This just makes me wonder what sort of fantastic levels they might have created if they had decided to be original and creative, rather than copying an old game which is probably less ideal for LBP's style of play.
very true....hopefully creating those awesome original levels will be the next step, if they haven't done so already. This may just be their way of creating a buzz.

Almost all of us have been creating on LBP since launch, and some of us have been in it since beta. I have 16 levels published, all of which are entirely original, full of 100% custom objects and creations, and have spent probably 3 or 4,000 combined hours in create-mode. We frequent several LBP community forums and venues and are very informed about the mechanics of creation, the virtue of originality and creativity, and simply took this opportunity to do something out of respect for the original. It's a universally loved classic, that all of us have a deep admiration and nostalgic passion for. Getting Contra to translate into LBP requires alot of talent, skill and hard work, beyond referencing the source material as a foundation.
SO i guess i need the MGS pack for this? if its still around? i just beat contra last night on my wii W/ my friend who hasn't been into video games since we were kids and contra was his favorite. I think this will help push em into this generation.
I made an awesome remake of the last level of Contra 3, it had to split in half because of the memory restraints involving enemy count of LBP, but it looks great and has all the classic bosses. But I didn't get mentioned in Joystiq. :(
If you want to play them, check them out by searching for the PSN ID: Comtar
Also, I wouldn't worry about this apparent "obvious copywrite infringement" since Media Molecule has played the levels and are quite pleased with them :)
Also, Konami worked with them to release the Paintinator + MGS pack, and there have been other (not so good) Contra levels on the servers for quite a while without them getting removed.
And to answer a few of your questions, the levels are out now on the LBP servers and you don't need to buy any expansion packs to play them!
