Rumor: Ready at Dawn developing new PSP God of War

If Tuesday's reveal of new -- even exciting -- games coming to PSP knocked you on your rump, you'd best be seated before reading any futher. Comfy? Good. Here's the deal: Joystiq has learned from a trusted source that Ready at Dawn, the studio behind the PSP's excellent God of War: Chains of Olympus, is working on a new Kratos adventure for PSP. Apparently the studio hasn't sworn off PSP development once and for all.
The informant tells us Ready at Dawn did, in fact, ship all of its PSP development kits back to Sony last summer, but received new kits in late 2008 after Sony ordered up the sequel. It's possible that, given its current state of development, the game might appear in some form at June's E3 Expo, our source reports. The title seems an unlikely candidate for release this year, but could be timed to coincide with God of War III's launch, which may occur in early 2010.
When contacted for comment, Ready at Dawn president and co-founder, Didier Malenfant, responded: "You know that even if we were [making the game], I couldn't answer your question." We see a "know" in there, but not a "no."

yeah! psp just dodged its coffin for good (if this is true). IT'S ALIVE!!! if it's not true, then the future could go either way. i'm liking the lineup. resistance retribution, PATAPON 2, LBP, assassins creed, rock band, motorstorm, and now, maybe, god of war: coo 2! yeah!
rohan @ Feb 27th 2009 6:11PM

Easily the best handheld game I've played...
required @ Feb 27th 2009 7:28PM
there are lot that are just as good in my opinion just in different ways, for example Killzone Liberation, Daxter, Syphon Filter, WipEout, Vice & Liberty Cities, Ratchet & Clank, LocoRoco, Mercury, so on and so forth... basically the greens and some of the yellows at http://www.metacritic.com/games/psp/scores/

I think Jeanne D'Arc is the best PSP game ... that's just me though
Saikisen @ Feb 27th 2009 8:33PM
Jeanne D'Arc is litterally breathtaking. I gotta put it at second place, it would probably be first if I didn't like Wipeout Pulse so much, I managed to get 100k loyalty points for EG-X in that game. God of war would go third, Its great, but its not me, I like long lasting games since I'm a casual game player but thats just me :)
patapon_rocker (The Old slycooper_rocker) @ Feb 28th 2009 7:31PM
imo, patapon = #1 and jeanne = #2

God Of War: Chains Of Olympus 2: The Sequel With Too Many Colons
Joe @ Feb 27th 2009 7:06PM
Well if this is true this is good but I would much prefer to see RAD make a whole new IP for the PSP or bring out a Sly Cooper for the PSP or some thing from the PS1 days like a new Colony Wars game.
sony boy @ Feb 27th 2009 7:44PM
LOL, i get it. Ready at Dawn is RAD...lol, i'm sorry.
anyway's RAD(XD) should work only for 1 console: the psp. Make a GOW game or another hit franchise game. How bout uncharted or ico or shadow of the colussus?
patapon_rocker (The Old slycooper_rocker) @ Feb 28th 2009 12:39PM
psp NEEDS sly cooper. its just not right without it.
Doug @ Feb 27th 2009 7:17PM
Glad I bought my PSP-2000 last summer :D.
Nook @ Feb 27th 2009 7:20PM
I'll most certainly take a copy good sirs, thank you. Chains is an absolute brilliant piece of work, make the next one just a wee bit longer though please.
If true, count me as a sale.
samgt @ Feb 27th 2009 7:42PM
Oh my gosh, even it's rumor, I'm still happy to know that Ready at dawn is working with SONY for more PSP titles, and hopefully another Gow!!!!! I'm a huge fan of GOW, I'll pick the game for sure or download it if the game happens to be downloadable via PSN by the time that PSP2 hits the market :)
Phil @ Feb 27th 2009 7:46PM
Hells yeah...
One could hope that it will be out quicker than the first one. I mean they already have the basics down now, right? The graphics couldn't/dont need to get better... At least not for GOW.
It looks like the PSP is gonna bankrupt me this year, and that makes me happy. :-)
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with 360!) @ Feb 27th 2009 9:09PM
You've gotta be kidding me. If true, that's awesome!
Virtuous @ Feb 27th 2009 9:36PM
Sony had better announce a spectacular lineup of PSP titles at E3.
Jacksons @ Feb 27th 2009 11:17PM
Not content with what's already been announced? I'm stoked!
Saikisen @ Feb 28th 2009 7:55AM
Same. I'm satisfied. All I really wanted was LBP and something like assassin's creed. Maybe a new update featuring a couple more new features or something similar.
Hopefully San andreas stories will be announced soon by rockstar.
Night Elve @ Feb 28th 2009 10:26PM
Wait ... What?
So far has been announced:
- LittleBigPlanet
- Assassin Creed
- God of War
- Monster Hunter
- Resistance Retribution
- Probably another GTA
- Disgaea 2
And you are expecting more O.o
Kradziej @ Feb 28th 2009 4:30AM
I'd be happier if they made they OWN game, a new franchise... this team is pretty awesome and I don't want them to waste by making games from someone's else series!
LM2007 @ Feb 28th 2009 12:07PM
Man, i was hoping for a GOW 1 redone for psp but a sequel is exiting too. I still play the chains of olympus, is so addictive. I want to play GOW but my ps2 screwed up some time ago. I hope this is not just a rumor and that indeed they are working on the game.
Jocaju @ Feb 28th 2009 11:21AM
After all those PS3 names coming to PSP like Resistance, Motorstorm, LBP and Assassins Creed, there's one game that everyone will love on PSP, that is Uncharted. So I hope they're talking to some studio about a Uncharted game.
ImSooFlye @ Feb 28th 2009 12:01PM
sweet hope its good if true
misterdbarton @ Feb 28th 2009 4:43PM
R@D complained about about two things when making Chains of Olympus;
-not having enough time, and...
-not fully utilizing the extra 111MHz Sony unlocked midway through development.
R@D said their PSP devkits were optimized quite well in terms of utilizing the PSP, BUT went on to say that they could have gotten even more out of the PSP if they had more time. So i REALLY hope there's a sequel in the works.
David Black @ Feb 28th 2009 5:11PM
Assuming this is true, and I believe it is, I wouldn't be suprised to see some Resistance: Retribution style synergy between the PS3 and PSP titles... Should be a pretty profitable venture for RAD since they already have the CoO engine and can thus afford to take the development time to add new features optimize the engine...
TM @ Feb 28th 2009 10:03PM
All I ask is that they make it bigger and better than the first one. They need more huge boss battles and a longer story. Hopefully this is true
TV's Frank @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:54AM
I don't think it's another god of war game. I have read some rumblings in other forums that Ready at Dawn is making Okami: Issun's Journey and will release it under Capcom's label as they own the rights to the original game. This game will use the same brush stroke art style with parchment paper effects as the first. We will see the world of Okami through Issun's eyes and combat will be similar to Okami with instant lock on that can be changed by pressing the triangle button to whatever enemy is closer to you. Rotating the camera is done with the L and R buttons and Select brings out the brush and holding circle button allows you to paint your brush stroke. That's all I have read at the moment it sounds good but these are forums we're talking about. It could be a hoax.
