SOCOM, Siren game spaces planned for PlayStation Home release

European PlayStation Home community manager TedTheDog recently clued in his fellow virtual inhabitants to some changes that would soon take effect within the game world. Most of them focused on improving some already integrated features -- for instance, he mentioned many PS3 developers are working on patches to their respective titles to allow them to be launched within Home, and that they're "investigating" methods of allowing players to listen to their own music in-game.

He also explained that a few high profile Game Spaces are nearing completion, and should see the light of day in the coming weeks. Among the mentioned game-themed rooms are lobbies modeled after SOCOM: Confrontation, Siren: Blood Curse (which is currently accessible in Japan), and Resident Evil 5. More importantly, he mentioned that a "slightly updated" Home Square could launch as early as March 5. We don't know what this update will entail, but we hope it'll provide further opportunities for us to carry out our more nefarious PlayStation Home enterprises.

I can't wait to see the SOCOM space. It'll be nice to see all my friends in their silly outfits lagging from one place to the other as I randomly end up facing a wall and then have my PS3 freeze up for no reason.

It makes sense that Home spaces should be able to launch a game like they said it would from day one. I know its Beta but damn. Where is my trophy space in my apartment? Even If its just trophies on a bookshelf or something. There is no movie streaming or anything. There is no reason what so ever to invite anyone to your personal space since there is no damn voice chat.

I could imagine how cumbersome media sharing will be for music and video. I picture a setup where all users who want to share this media must all own it, and that only content purchased from the psn will be available for sharing. However, I doubt this will ever be done before September of 2010.

Yeah I had that same idea. Let streaming media only be media that is rented or bought from PSN or something. Having both people that view must own it wouldn't be any fun. I dont see why music is so hard. Itunes does it. We stream music from each other at work all the time. I'd be ok with letting us play or own music in home at least. So i hope they do that if nothing else. Home is pretty quite without voice chat.

They could probably do it if you all had the same blu ray in the disc drive too. same with dvd and cd and game adn stuff..........

If it were integrated into the offline experience, or just integrated in general, I'd understand. I think I'd enjoy:

- Having my avatar directly attached to my user profile (ala NXE's avatars always being on screen)

- Being able to inject my avatar INTO ps3 games (like the Mii's, but in all games), which would give me more incentive to actually buy clothes for my avatar

- Being able to load level data and explore games with my avatar (sans enemies/stories) which Sony mentioned they were going to do for Drake and Resistance a while back. Give me incentive to go back to old games or purchase old games to find hidden goodies.

- Having my Home apartment as the defacto setting / background for my XMB (and having my friends list dynamically show me who is online by placing my friend's avatars in my apartment, where I can send them text and voice requests quickly, without having to invite them to my apartment first)

these are all tall orders and probably not realistic to expect. (sony'd have to mandate a lot of design standards with 3rd parties) But as is, I just don't understand why I should care about home as a consumer.

Gavin - I Have both so don't persecute me - but your requests sort of already exist on Xbox Live. But I think you have some great ideas and would like to see them implemented.

Wow, I REALLY wish game developers would concentrate on GAMES, and not lame stuff like Home. Home is cool, for 10 minutes. Then I realize it's the SIMS with nothing to do. (And I hated the SIMS). I for one would rather spend my time on PS# playing games, not walking around pointless virtual worlds. (They have Second LIfe for that).

Instead of making Socom launchable from Home, how about coming back to make a single-player campaign, or more maps, or DLC equipment, etc....

Does anyone still care about SOCOM?

The Siren game space is awful. I went into it on the HK Home and it was just really dark.
