You have GOT to be kidding! I just bought this game for $5 from Steam and it was $4 too much. This game is SO BAD on the PC. It's like playing arcade Virtua Cop 1. This is certainly the worst game i've played on my PC in 2-3 years.

THIS IS A WARNING! I thought I'd give this game a go for $5. It is terrible! DO NOT BUY!

It's so goddamn hard not to buy something off of Steam when they have these sick ass deals... I love Valve for having said deals about 95% of the time and I hate them because they have them too because I MUST PURCHASE THEMS!

And I'm broke...

P.S. Lost Planet is very nice.

be forwarned.

5 dollars is a good price, but the version is pretty difficult to get good fps with. (considering its age). I also have a few game killing bugs, one being there's no sound.

Oddly enough I have a fresh parts list sitting around. All prices
taken from Newegg.

GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 $80
XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB $130
Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W $48
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Yorkfield 3.16GHz $188
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 $45
Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB $60
LG DVD Burner $25
Coolermaster Centurion 5 case $55
XP Home SP3 OEM (32bit) $90 or Vista Home Premium OEM (64bit) $100

$786 for XP
$796 for Home Premium

Call of Duty 4 & 5 come bundled with graphics card. Card also has a
$20 rebate not figured into final price. You could probably get a
cheaper case, I just really liked the Centurion 5 last time I worked
with it.

You can easily get away with a slower processor, less ram, and a cheaper video card.

A 9600gt will get you 40fps in most games. 2gb vs 3.5gb ram is mostly negligable. A sub $100 dual core processor is all you need; most games are vidcard bound. I'd say you can shave off $150 from the final price.

It's got approximately the same power as a ATI 4850, although the 4850 is slightly more expensive and doesn't come with the neat extras. What does this mean in terms of actual FPS? Well, it should be able to do CoD4 at max settings at 60fps, max settings on Mass Effect at about 30fps. Anything else in the sub $150 range is weaker.

If you wanted something with a bit more umph then there isn't anything worth looking at until you get into the $200 range with the GTX 260 and 1GB ATI 4870s.

(Approximate prices)
Intel C2Q Q6600 - $200
G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) RAM - $50
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L Motherboard - $100
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB - $200
CORSAIR VX450 450W Power Supply - $80
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 Chassis - $55
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB HDD - $70

Total is $755 before rebates.
(Operating system cost omitted)

Never skimp out on the power supply. It's a more important component than you think. A poor one can cause system failure under load and fail prematurely. Also, don't "overbuy" your power supply. You don't need a 750W PSU unless you have multiple hard drives and SLI'd/Crossfired video cards. A good power supply, such as the Corsair VX450 above, will be handle cards like the GTX 260 perfectly. At full load, the whole system will draw like 300W tops.

Not to add to the fire...

But don't ignore your PSU, like that guy said. Get 650 or up, and if you don't want to splurge on a 200 series, get a 9800GTX+ graphics card. Decent card, can run crysis on high with solid framerates...

I just beat LP on XBL yesterday. It took me 23 months, not literally. On and off playing. It was that Mission 10 boss. He was so frustrating that he kept me away from the game for like a year. Those who have faced him know what I mean.

hmm, which one? It's been a really long time since I played it, but there was definitely a boss around level 10 that gave me a ton of trouble. It was the one where there were a few mechs on a ledge that you just ripped through, and once the mechs were gone, you were totally dead. Frustrating as hell.

Yet I loved it.

It was the vagina boss. It had two long tenticle arms with crab hands that would go back into a hole after you shot the crab hands off. Then you go into the holes and shot something. At the very end the middle of the monster opens up like a vagina and you shoot missiles at it.

But for $5, how can I complain? Purchased and downloading.

This is why you NEVER buy games on Steam over the weekday. Wait it out until Thursday or Friday for the deals and see if anything catches your fancy.
