His name is Nite Owl who was actually based on the original blue beetle who is actually pretty similar to Batman. All the super characters of Watchmen are based of Charlton Comics characters (Charlton is now owned by DC and their characters have been incorporated into the DC universe). Rorschach was based on the faceless detective The Question, although Moore stated that Rorschach was "a new kind of batman" mostly in the fact that moore portrayed him in the way that a vengeance driven hero would be in the real world. The Comedian was based on a guy named Peacemaker, Ozymandias on Peter Cannon, Thunder Bolt, Doctor Manhattan on Captain Atom. However Silk Spectre was based more on Black Canary, a regular DC universe chaacter

You need to read the novel to understand the point. The novel is looking at superhero stereotypes... hence it needs characters that are based on superhero stereotypes.

Kind of like how the simpsons are based on old style US tv families.

Nite Owl? No, he's not meant to be Batman, though I guess he is superficially similar, having gadgets, a laughably weird flying machine and a dingy 'cave'.
No one in Watchmen is as fantastically awesome as Batman, basically because Watchmen is a deconstruction of what it means to be a masked vigilante (like Batman), and its heroes are all characterised as emotionally frail and ultimately helpless.

Batman would have cracked the conspiracy halfway through the book, while everyone was moping over some flashback. :P

It's a bit pricey, at least we can demo it first.

And someone called me a noob last for saying that XBLA games are starting to cost too much, anyways if they are going to tier the prices they should also tier the achievements to match. Like this and all the other $20 games should have like 450-500 GS. It would help ease the $20 you spend on a game.

I can't even image a Watchmen game. There wasn't much fighting in the book. There certainly were no endless droves of henchmen to fight through, like there appears to be in some of the game's screen shots!

There was actually almost NO action in the book. But i think this game is set in the "good old days" before the situation in the book arose... when the watchmen were together, legal and kicking ass.

the movie though... i have no idea how they are gonna pull off a superhero movie with no action scenes...
(though i guess V for Vendetta almost did it)

Surely the fair price depends on the contents.

Its dumb to say something can't be more expensive if its better, or more expensive to make. If people don't buy it then they'll reduce the price.

Portal and World of Goo were both $20 and both worth every penny. Other games are more or less depending on their value.

1. Develop a game based on a comic so beloved that there is no way to meet expectations.
2. Make that game short.
3. Release it into the worst economy since the Great Depression.
4. Charge a ridiculous price.
5. ???
6. Profit!!

Sad that devs/publishers are deluded into thinking that great graphics is what makes a game worthy of being bought. Bring back lower quality graphics, longer play time and more meat.

Only then should they deserve to charge the prices they do now.

"Is it just us, or are digital downloads getting progressively more expensive?"

Yes, yes they are, and it's thanks to two groups of people.

1) the monkey turds who buy those expensive titles

2) the media like Joystiq that should be helping the gaming community by making a bigger stink about these raising prices. Game companies read these blogs, they find out what the community wants based on what they see here. And if Microsoft or Sony or any other company see Joystiq blogging about how game prices for say "Braid" or "Watchmen" are too high and that gamers shouldn't purchase until the prices lower, then less gamers buy, and game companies start reacting with better pricing.

So, thanks Joystiq, for not helping lower the prices, though I do notice you made a comment about waiting for lower prices before sinking into the Watchmen game, so that is a start... Use your power!

This is probably as poor and short as most film-based games, only it's half the price.
