Two options:

A)become a critic or make friendly with one/someone who runs a theatre. We saw this two weeks ago. The "not perfect, but pretty damned good" reviews are well earned, and the lack of squid isn't QUITE so horrible afterall.

B)Move to another city. Myspace let users watch the flick on Monday in Austin TX, many many early screenings will be happening this Monday in Austin and most other major cities, too.

I get to see it in three days, with the director and director of photography. There is a Q&A session afterwords. If anyone has any good questions I could ask let me know! =)

If you can, ask what's going to be in the Director's Cut. Seriously I'm more excited about that than the theatrical release.

Vegeta,

I have a question for you man ... Let me preface it by saying I have never heard of the watchmen before this movie. Is that guy in the picture supposed to be Batman? It looks exactly like him minus the logo on the chest. I'm guessing it is but because of some sort of IP ownership thing they couldn't have it be the official Batman.

You could take Wait Mate

Just watch the first three minutes. I couldn't find the Goldblum Wait Mate commercial on it's own.

No, that's Nite-Owl. The whole point of the Watchmen graphic novel is to examine the superhero genre, so it's less coincidence or copying, more parodying (without the humor) or working with. Read the novel. You won't find too many people who have read it not recommending it, and if you do, you'll be glad you did.

"I've read it, it just doesn't have much to do with games. This is a game website."

It has plenty to do with games. The whole strip is about what kind of gaming experience a true adaptation of the story would create--a really poor one (especially since the story is so short on action).

Yeah, thanks, I'm not pretentious enough to comment on a comic with whose source material I'm not familiar. It's just, a laundry list of references doesn't equate to a joke - especially because there was no connection made between the fictional content of the video game and the work being cited. "A map with some arbitrarily chosen grim images from Watchmen, then controls with some arbitrarily chosen grim images from Watchmen" isn't a particularly carefully thought out joke.

You lost 35 minutes ago.

Priceless.

BTW: the "Slow-Mo" isn't in the actual movie, it was used in the trailers for dramatic effect and to go with the music.

No. The slo-mo is in teh actual movie. however most reviews claim that Snyder has considerably toned down the amount of slo-mo.

He hasn't toned it down at all. Of course he toned it down relative to 300. But still there is supposed to be alot of it in here. And it just doesn't fit.

Snyder FTL. Downvote me all you want guys, but this movie is going to be a pile of turd. They should have just let Terry Gilliam direct this years ago.

If Gilliam directed it, he would have spent $300 million and only had 15 minutes of usable film. He would have then done a making of documentary instead of releasing the actual movie. (True story, he did just that with an attempted Don Quixote movie)

I do actually think it would fit for the jailbreak scene, but other than that, i don't really see it working, maybe on one of Mr. Manhattan's visions.

Anyway, although I do think that Snyder, for what has been shown, has done an amazing job, I still don't know where this insane critical acclaim comes from, I loved how intense the story gets, but once they get to Antarctica, the story becomes so predictable, all the suspense that is built up throughout most of the story is gone just like that.

Maybe I thought that way of it because I read it about 3-4 years ago, probably at the time that plot was more shocking.

That scene that cuts back and forth between Laurie and Dan fighting the thugs and Jon on that talk show would work well with slow motion for the action parts. Watch the motion comics and you'll see what I mean. :P

I think Snyder went too far with the slow mo. I mean the video embedded above is, literally, still on the same frame.

@Disco

What Vegeta heard: EVEN THOUGH I HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, I'M JUST GOING TO JUDGE IT BASED ON A FEW CLIPS I'VE SEEN. THAT TOTALLY MAKES SENSE GUYS!!!!

Seriously people who actually seen the movie pretty much claim that not only is it toned down, but for the most part most of the slo-mo is only in the scenes that were posted.

The last panel of Comic Critics was the only one worth reading. The rest of it was WAY too forced. It's like they thought "Ok, what are some random moments from Watchmen? Assign them to buttons. Comic done." Digital Unrest would have been funny in 1996.

The rest are ok. The shape of the stigmata in Robot Martini gives it my vote. :P

i guess "the rumor around the watercooler", idk how true it is, but the director changed the ending of the story.
not gonna spoil it because it's such a deep story, but if this is true, i hope he means how everyone responds at the end. that would make more sense. but i hope it's not changed at all.

The ending wouldn't work without all of the foreshadowing so they changed it to something else that has the same end result. It was either that or cut a ton of character development.

That's what happens when you take a mystery/drama and turn it into an action flick.

Note: I haven't seen it yet, I'm just going by what the commercials/game/advertising blitz make it look like.

And how they turned Nite Owl into a human action figure. And Sally Jupiter into a latex-wearing sexpot.

All I can say about Rorschach is - That bastard better be extra ginger.

sigh,

1. Do you really want to see most of the characters in their original costumes in live-action in 2009? I want you to think about that. I honestly doubt that even the most hardcore Watchmen fanboy would be able to take any live-action version of their favorite characters wearing the exact same costume as their comic counter-part( try getting an audience to take Veidt seriously if he was wearing his comic book costume)

2. It's done on fucking purpose. Much like Moore's Watchmen is a response to comic book superheroes during the 80s, the movie adaptation is a response to comic book movies. Which explains the updated costumes for some of the characters.

@Zuburi
3. You're really basing your judgement on the film on clips/commercials/trailers that is meant to appeal to the non-fans? Does that really make any sense to you?
