Play war or "play ball" -- this week's releases are highlighted by Halo Wars and the start of (virtual) spring training. (Alas, with the East Coast blanketed in snow, real baseball seems a long way off.)
Also this week: HAWX (PS3/X360), Empire: Total War (PC), Sonic and the Black Knight (Wii), Peggle (DS), and the resurgence of multiple -- yes, multiple -- PSP releases.
yea cause that would clearly cause the sony fanboys to wither an die...sarcasm ftw lol
YO James..or anyone else readin this..can you confirm World In Conflict Soviet Assault comes out this week?? i've looked on gamestop..not even a listing for pre order an some places just say March 2009. thanks in advance! been waiting for that game for a long time! get at me about it...knights543@hotmail.com
I don't think that'll ever happen, either it coming to PC or being good on PC. The gameplay and controls revolve entirely around the fact that you're playing it without a mouse; that's why it's as simple as it is. Bringing it to PC, and forcing it to face off with juggernauts like Command & Conquer or (if it waits long enough) even Starcraft 2 would be a bad move.
Besides, I played Halo Wars demo at my cousins house. 2 races? WTF? LAME! They just did it for EZ balancing, just make an equal unit with a different name on each team.
I expect a nice review on MadWorld next week outta you. I liked Secret Rings, but got too annoyed with issues in the control scheme to go more than 3-4 hours in.
My reasoning is the same. I'll go ape for Sonic, but MadWorld comes first, and either way i'm only about halfway through Fire Emblem, so another week with that game will put me very close to the end
A busy schedule for a Nintendo fanboy, who'da thunk it?
Depends where you live, apparently. Some places in the US got it last week, but here in Canada, it's supposed to ship tomorrow, in stores Wednesday. I hope it's a decent game.
I got Eat Lead on Friday, it's a really fun game! But yeah, it does release on March 3rd normally. I am surprised Joystiq didn't put that anyway since THEY ARE RUNNING THE GAMES ADS ON THEIR SITE AND MAYBE THEIR ADVERTISERS WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW IT COMES OUT ON MARCH 3RD.
I've seen one a couple times and I think you're right. It's one big CG trailer that doesn't look anything like the gameplay. I'm not even sure it mentions that the game is a RTS. Hopefully people look into it first, but you know lots won't and it's those, the don't-own-any-other-games fratboys, that are going to be mad.
The top four all got voted down. Odd, not all of them were deserving. Doesn't seem to be a big week for releases. Guess we are getting into a slow season. I'm sure Halo Wars will do good. Introduce a lot ppl to RTS's but they don't really do it for me. I'm tentatively excited about Mad World, and yeah, where is Matt Hazard? Next Week?
Oh and maybe hawx. I need to play a demo, i'm hoping its more simmy than arcadey. I may but it if it is. Like one day, when I have a better job, and beat a list of games I own and haven't played first.
got Halo Wars last Thursday.. so nothing this week.. besides, ordered Lost for £6, and Mega Drive collection..
Halo Wars is alright, a little too simple, being able to team your units, instead of ringing them, to pressing, Spartans are very fragile too, the AI buddies are slow, though on legendary, I spent 20 minutes just training troops to defend my base while it was being attacked, while the buddies just sit there, & the enemy just expands & wipes you or them out.. the game also has a difficulty setting that tries to work out you skill level through each skirmish. I'd likr to be able to build more troops than 30 or 40. I found it dissapointing on C&C3 where you maxed out your troops quickly too
I broke down and got Killzone yesterday, but since I can only play about 2 levels at a time before getting motion sick, Halo Wars will give me something to fall back on when my eyes start to bleed. Barring that, there's always Persona 4 (now that I've gotten past the initial 4 hour bore-a-thon of hitting "X" and reading text.)
$30 for a game that's going to be addicting (and portable!) and eat up 40+ hours of my time is better than $60 for a game that's decent and only eats up 10.
gamefly just shipped me halo wars, so thats cool. I think I might play that before Killzone. on a side note the Killzone ads are freaking gorgeous. Hawx will have to wait.
If Halo Wars was like the CGI advertisements shown on TV, I would actually think about buying a 360 again..
But.. based on that screen shot, I wonder how many people will be confused/angry once they realise they just bought a micromachine version of their beloved Master Chief?

i'm loving the new site layout, now the Sony fanboys get to see a Halo Wars screenshot on the main page!

Enzemo @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:33PM
Because its the biggest release this week. If it went global last week it would of been featured too. And yes, I know Killzone 2 came out last week.
Shagittarius @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:32PM
Nothing for me this week. Will wait for Halo Wars on PC if it turns out to be any good.
Geist @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:50PM

If a game is only good or bad based on controls then I will definitely not be getting it.
arrrgh @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:52PM
was built specifically for 360. Would be awkward as hell on PC.
you're only limiting yourself shag
el serpiente @ Mar 2nd 2009 3:38PM
I'll wait until it comes out for the Mac...
Gloqwi @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:48PM
Can't wait for the Gizmondo release!
Highimpact1 @ Mar 3rd 2009 7:45AM

Markez @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:33PM

zeltrec @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:35PM
Thats a halo wars screen shot?lol
Enjoy KZ is awesome.
Vegnagun bwf @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:37PM
Those two things aren't related. Stop being a stupid fanboy.
tboy123 @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:07PM
wait... KZ2 came out last week. OMFG!
Besides, I played Halo Wars demo at my cousins house. 2 races? WTF? LAME!

samfish (is ready for MadWorld!) @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:36PM
I'm buying Sonic, but not this week (even though I loved Secret Rings). MadWorld is next week and I need to save my money.
Damnit, Sega...space your releases out. It's self-defeating to release 3 of their biggest Wii games back-to back-to back like that.
Markez @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:44PM
YOU RACIST! Er, wait is this the RE5 thread?
I expect a nice review on MadWorld next week outta you. I liked Secret Rings, but got too annoyed with issues in the control scheme to go more than 3-4 hours in.

I'm very excited about Halo Wars. I used to love RTS games back in the day when people played PCs.
Zertoss @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:38PM
Halo Wars and Sonic for me. Hopefully things stay quiet here at work this week so I can actually have time to play them.
jsut @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:41PM
Uh-oh. First DS Galactrix, now DS Peggle! Whatever free time I had left is now taken!
chispito @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:49PM
But $30 for a Peggle game?
Donald @ Mar 2nd 2009 3:56PM
Word is it has all the content from Peggle and Peggle Nights.
Coleman811 @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:42PM
I thought EAT LEAD was released this week.... When is supposed to come out? Anyone know?

Longhorn4Life (PSN MariusElijah) @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:43PM
Have you seen the commercials for Halo Wars? all i can say is some people are gonne be pissed when they insert it into their 360
Markez @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:45PM
Haven't seen em, so what makes you say that? Don't plan on getting it myself, just curious...
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:48PM
He's probably talking about the fact that adverts don't make it look like an RTS, barely showing any gameplay at all...
Longhorn4Life (PSN MariusElijah) @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:48PM
It doesnt show any gameplay. It just show this cinematic scene, that looks like a war is about to break out, very misleading
Mr Khan @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:05PM
I haven't caught an adverts. Where are you seein' 'em?
Trev @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:24PM

j.howlett @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:55PM
maybe it will get people to broaden the types of games they play. at worst they'll just return the game.
The Dom @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:48PM
I was pretty impressed with the mlb 2k9 demo, much more than last year's. Hopefully it does well in the reviews.

Snow day! And thanks to my diligent work over the weekend, i now have all day to get cracking on more Fire Emblem
Only way it could be more perfect is if the snow were packing snow, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Khaled @ Mar 2nd 2009 6:45PM
How do you get motion sick?
Jacksons @ Mar 2nd 2009 6:51PM
Some inferior beings have this problem with FPS games, especially when the camera tilts.
Only kidding, but if any game is going to make someone motion sick, it'd be Mirror's Edge or Killzone 2.
Geist @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:52PM
People still do: Dawn of War 2 is really good.

umm....hello??? @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:30PM
HaloWars and OgreBattle this week. Just downloaded the Hawx demo so that'll wait until I decide yes/no from the demo.

Killzone 2 last week..
Hawx this week..
Mazrael @ Mar 2nd 2009 4:41PM
How could anyone not realise it was CGI in the advert.. :S
Alex @ Mar 2nd 2009 4:42PM
Even if this game was a complete utter heap then it would still sell because it has the word Halo on the cover.
