Rumorang: PSP-4000 details leaked

Considering i've seen the same picture in a pile of different articles.
I strongly suggest that people stop talking about a NEW PSP2!
Because unless your a mindless Fanboy that buys anything Sony, i believe the truth being that Sony needs to pull itself out of this gaming rut , and start making some better games and support , before they put out yet another PSP.
PSP4000-yet another reason to spend money for no point what so ever.

Just make a PSP2; maybe wait a couple years until you can get all the following features in there for under $200:

I'd prefer a clamshell form-factor like the DS has, but also with a swivel at the base of the screen (like on tablet PCs) that allows you to flip it closed with the screen facing either out or in. The screen would be the same size as the normal PSP, but would of course be Multi-touch. On-board SSD storage capacity of 8GB or higher with additional storage via memory stick. No UMD drive (that's what the old PSP is for). Whole new game library by download only. Plays ports (not emulation) of UMD-only games, but does emulation for all games currently available on PSN for PSP1. Streamlined PSN interface (runs natively, not just a website that takes forever to load). New, faster CPU and graphics at least on par with the Wii's best looking games. Built-in camera, microphone, GPS, and accelerometer

Are we still going to have the interlacing problem? Thats the only thing preventing me from picking up a 3000 honestly.

seems good. but its only a rumor. hopefully the no UMD is a fake. if you want a game and theres no umd slot, you'll have to buy and download the game online. some people dont wanna do that.

So if there's bi UMD then what is it going to use? Game carts like the DS or download only games?

Are they gonna recycle Mylo parts and make it to PSP-4000/PSP2-1000?

YAY! I can't wait to put this next to my psp-1000, psp-2000, psp-3000, sega genesis/sega cd, sega genesis2/sega cd2, and sega cdx!

They should have a way so that Old PSP owners have a way to transfer their UMD based games to the new unit..........

Or at least allow them to trade in their UMD based games for a digital download copy of the same game.

If the screen is honestly the same as the PSP-3000's, then that's one big fucking fail, Sony. If you keep this up you can expect me to never buy your system.

It sounds like Eurogamer found that PSP2 concept (pictured) and thought it was real.

Europe is like that sometimes.

Impossible that a PSP-4000 would have two analog sticks/nubs. That would completely alienate all existing PSP's. New games would utilize the right hand stick, but where would that leave the previous PSP users? They wouldn't be able to play new games properly without buying a new system.

Sony would have to kill the PSP, or create a completely different handheld, for it to have 2 analog sticks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you register games on the Playstation website? And if I am wrong, it is something they could use to know what UMDs you own, allowing you to download a digital copy of that game to a UMDless PSP.

I'm not too keen on another new iteration of the PSP so soon after the 3000 has come out and I'm sorry, but that image of a potential 4000 model is god-ugly. I really do like the current design of the PSP; there is a sophistication to it that is lacking amongst the other handheld systems.

If this rumor does come true, I will be suprised. I think it's going to be hard to convince people to upgrade or purchase a new device in today's economy. And given the poor job that the existing PSP has faced in America and Canada, the sell is going to be even harder for Sony. Let's be blunt, many stores such as Bestbuy, Futureshop, EBGames, to name a few, have drastically shrunk or eliminated PSP stock from their store shelves as the device simply was not moving; nor were there any games to be found. As an example, one of the Bestbuy stores in Vancouver has a grand total of four games in their PSP section - that's hardly any incentive for consumers to purchase a device. This poor state of the current PSP, and Sony's support, or better stated Sony's lack of support, will need to be overcome before any new handheld is successful.

I'd much rather Sony spend some its time developing games and supporting publishers to develop games then introduce yet another new model. In any event, having learned my lesson with the PSP's, I certainly will not be purchasing any new model soon.

1) Everyone asking for a second analog stick is a fool. This is just going to be another revision of the current PSP (if it is real, and more than just a rumor). It won't be usable by any existing PSP games, and no developer would make a game that uses it, for fear of shunning 1K/2K/3K owners. Wait for the real PSP2 for that.

2) I don't mind the lack of UMD. As it stands, it's already possible to backup your UMD games, and run them off the Memory Stick (I haven't done this yet myself, though). So, it'll all work out, I'm sure.

A UMD-free PSP? What about the people with UMD's? Fail, this rumor fails terribly.

PSP-4000? Even greater fail! The 3000 has barely been out and already a new PSP version coming(?), kiss my behind, this is pure logic, and my logic is telling me this is aweful foolish rumors. Anyone supporting me?

so what happens to the games the umd's that i bought like ff7 crisis core and phantasy star portable that would be complete bull s***t if i could'nt play them on my psp 4000 sony is going to piss off alot of people if they dont make it backwards compatiable . i mean i know the umd are a pain in the arse but still do what the damn ds did and make it backwards compatiable ya feel

Although I welcome the no-UMD stance, because UMDs are really rare in my area, it seems unfeasible for Sony to commit such a radical deletion of something it advertised heavily and even made up a name for it. It will make all UMDs bought by users obsolete (unless Sony offers the users digital copies of their games), and those are millions of people. Not sure how Sony could manage this.

This would suit a totally different PSP, namely the PSP 2 if there will ever be one. The same applies on the second analog stick.

But who knows, Sony could do anything. I remember the time rumors about the PSP-2000 were spreading out, I never thought it would come true. And it happened.

Also, the UMD format is extremely popular in Japan. People over there actually buy them. Even UMD video is very popular and the Japanese buy many of their favorite anime shows as UMDs. Why would Sony abandon it then? Just because people in America do not like it and bring up lame excuses as it being slow or unwritable to not purchase?

I don't think so.

I have a feeling that this is going to be a completely new PSP. i.e. PSP2. It will be UMD-less, sports onboard memory, and supports PSP games as backward compatibility. Of course the device will be updated with better inner hardware. It sounds more logical this way. Because it seems there will really be no UMD drive in the next PSP, but it's impossible to do it in current generation PSPs.

It's possible to burn or copy the UMD's onto a memory stick or something like those DS games at gamestop or bestbuy while deleting it completely off of the UMD so people can't make extra copies. They can also make it so that you need a PSN account to enter when you do the UMD to memory stick burn/copy/transfer to keep track of the games you've copied incase it deletes so you can just re-download it. In my opinion Sony should just give us a break and stop making new models of PSP and come out with a PSP2, it's a waste of money making a whole new system model when you could be making a whole new system with more than one or two added features. Ex. PSP-2000: No mic and PSP-3000: Has a mic and a better LCD screen. C'mon it's bull crap, you can buy mics seperate and who cares about the screen really? They could've added the better screen to the PSP2... If they come out with anything less than this as a PSP-4000 I'm done, wth I just purchased a new PSP-3000 2-3 months ago now their coming out with a 4000 months later. It's a bunch a b.s., Sony just wants our money for nothing much in return.

SONY YOU BETTER COME OUT WITH THIS AS A PSP-4000 OR YOU CAN FORGET ME BUYING ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR SYSTEMS. I hate to say it but yeah I wont be buying anymore of your systems and I had good times with you guys, I bought PS1, PSone(slim), PS2, PSP regular(x2), and a PSP-3000. All last long and work well but you fail to really change much. PS2 just has better graphics than PS1. PS3 was the first big change, PSP was a whole different level "handhelds", they've come out with more different PSP models in the past 4years than they did with the PS1-PS2 in twice the amount of time. Step up your game Sony because I know you guys can do better, and hurry before Apple comes out with IGame and shuts you guys down, lol.

Does ANYone here have a modded psp? you download games to the memory stick with the UMD drive. duhh. and u can get cool apps and emulators and stuff.
