Sorry, Europe: New Rock Band prices only apply to old instruments
Well, Europe, you were waiting for the other shoe drum stick to drop, and it has. Remember those new, much more manageable prices for Rock Band junk? The prices only apply to Rock Band instruments, not the new-and-improved versions for Rock Band 2, according to Eurogamer.
There are plans to bring the Rock Band 2 equipment across the pond, however, but nothing has been set in stone yet. The only thing an EA spoksperson could say was that the company was "working" on it and that it hopes "to have more news soon." We'll be sure to update you when that news comes.

When will Harmonix stop raping us Europeans in the ass?
joeybeast @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:48AM
What makes you think pricing is up to the developers?
aggrazel @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:02PM
Thats what happens when you have fun with a stranger in the alps.
Scooter @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:11PM
When you turn around and cut off their dick.
Slaziman @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:22PM
But their dick is so good...
(analogy is getting disturbing)
Scooter @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:34PM
To decode the metaphor would you enjoying their dick mean that you actually like paying more for stuff because it gives your region a sense of cultural distinctiveness and togetherness?
Slaziman @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:51PM
It means that their game is too damn good to pass on :(
Mazrael @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:43AM
so mine is a wireless RB1 guitar.. the dead zone on the strum bar is rediculous, having to hit the plastic either way.. which is very unnatural to me, so I only pick downwards, even on hard.. where on a real guitar, alternate strumming just works
why not the LS2LS7? @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:46AM
Did you never play with a Guitar Hero guitar? They have almost no resistance in the middle, you ram the flipper into the stop on each end.
The Baron @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:50AM
Both GHWT guitars I've tried broke the strum bar after less than an hour of play.
Although my RB guitar now has a broken tilt function and whammy bar.
aggrazel @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:06PM
I actually bought a RB2 fender stratocaster, I've been forcing myself to use it instead of reverting back to my somewhat buggy GH3 les paul (the green and red buttons sometimes glitch out on me). Even with the glitches I'm still better on the les paul, my problem with the RB2 guitar is that the fret buttons seem harder to press, so quick hammeron/pulloff sequences mess me up. I do like the strum bar better on the RB2 guitar though.
Scooter @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:44PM
To fix your Les Paul if your frets don't respond look into

or if you get random strums just from fretting

The first one is bit of work and you can't detach the neck any more but a 100% working guitar is worth it.
Mazrael @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:42PM
I never got around to getting a guitar hero, then I liked the look of the 2nd set of fretting buttons, and At The Gates as DLC.. I did think I had an RB2 guitar as it was wireless...
The Baron @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:48AM
Ooh, I missed that announcement of an EU PS3 release. Been waiting for it for a few months now!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Mar 2nd 2009 11:49AM
Unless they've removed the warranty from the instruments, there's no way they can afford to really ship the old instruments. The RB1 guitars had moderate flipper issues and the tilt sensor was hopeless. The RB1 drums had the kick pedal that was ready to frag at any time.
I would imagine all they could really do is ship the RB2 instruments in the RB1 colors and wired, plus maybe take the sync sensor off the guitar.
All in all, you wouldn't be doing too badly with that setup.

"to make starting a band more affordable than ever."
Sounds like someone watched too many Apple ads.
Spike @ Mar 2nd 2009 1:44PM
has apple EVER released something affordable?
joeybeast @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:53PM
I was referring to the fact Apple uses EVER in their ads.
The fastest Mac ever.
The greenest Mac ever.
The funnest iPod ever.

First, it's the huge delay for the first game to even come out here in Europe.
Then, it's the huge price point.
Then, it's the fact that it's 360 exclusive.
Then, it's the fact that theres no marketing push.
Then, it's the huge delay for the second game to come out here in Europe.
Then, it's the fact that they did the same 360 exclusive release with absolutely no marketing as they did with the first game.
Then, it's the fact that they aren't releasing the new instruments over here yet.
Seriously, I would never have guessed that companies like MTV, Harmonix and EA could systematically and continuously balls up the release of such a high-profile franchise. Activision and Neversoft had absolutely no problem releasing their game not only around the same time as the rest of the world, but on all formats too.
It's almost as if EA and company want this to fail in Europe...
The Baron @ Mar 2nd 2009 6:45PM
And yet weirdly a lot of people seem to have it.
I'm pretty sure there's only like 3 people in Britain who read Joystiq, so how come a significant number of people know about, want, or have it?
Kyle @ Mar 3rd 2009 7:57AM
I'm not saying nobody bought it, but all of my points still stand. I work for a big video game retailer, you know how many copies of Rock Band 2 we got in when it was released? About five. And we haven't had any more since then. And that's the disc only. No advertising, no instruments, nothing.
When Rock Band 1 came out, sure, some people bought it, but we had loads of the instrument bundles sitting in the stock room for ages.
And if you're talking about people knowing about it, it's only really people like you and me, game savvy customers who read gaming blogs/websites/magazines, etc. Other people who come in looking for a band game, the more casual crowd, always go for Guitar Hero, because it's a recognised brand and it's been advertised to death since before Christmas. I haven't ever seen one single Rock Band ad on TV.
I'm not saying I want Rock Band to fail, I have it myself and much prefer it to Guitar Hero, but my point still stands. After having released Rock Band three times in the UK (once for the original on 360, once for the original on the other systems months later and then for RB2 on 360) they haven't ever really managed to do it "successfully". Maybe this will change things but I'm not holding my breath.
Deck @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:06PM
I don't understand what it is that makes it so difficult for them to bring the Rock Band set to Europeans at a decent price? It seems ridiculous to me!
I am not a European so maybe that is why I don't understand but it just doesn't really seem fair that us here in the States can get it with ease and at a good price where over there... its just sky rocketed out of proportions.
Kyle @ Mar 2nd 2009 4:41PM
Don't worry, I am a European and I don't understand either.
LuiginDaisy @ Mar 2nd 2009 3:18PM
I'm one of the few that actually likes the RB1/RB2 guitars. The buttons felt more like a piano, but I could do without that horrid strum-bar. I just want to know who thought it was a great idea to make the drums wireless. Is it so I can run around when I play with them?
I'm still not going to buy that adapter, I'd rather go to Costco and buy a generic 32 pack of batteries for 5 dollars, because they want me to buy that shit seperately, just like when I had Crash Team Racing 10 years ago, they wanted me to buy that "Boomerang Adapter" crap so I can plug in more controllers.
If Harmonix could go back in time, I'm sure they would fuck over U.S. as much as they're doing to Europe now, just to squeeze a few more hundred bucks out of our fat American asses. But you still have to admit; It's a great game.
jinn35 @ Mar 2nd 2009 3:39PM
wireless drums just mean one less cord for a drunk guy to trip over at a party.
The Baron @ Mar 2nd 2009 6:46PM
And a small mountain of empty batteries.
