Here's an object lesson in the importance of timing. Just one week ago, the announcement that a port of the Wii's Tenchu: Shadow Assassins would be coming to the U.S. in March would have sounded like manna from Japanese heaven to game-starved PSP owners.
But now, in the light of Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band: Unplugged and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge being in the pipeline for Sony's portable, today's announcement is a little more like ... well, it's like a Tenchu game being announced. See? It's all in the timing.

I dont know why, but imagining a tenchu game on psp made me remember the horror of controlling the old PS1 tenchus, and those were the best ones in the series! I'll hold judgement but it's hard to get excited for this.

As much as a "dead franchise" can get praise, i do think Shadow Assassins got it. Since you find no satisfaction in the more visceral thrills of Wiimote killings, you won't miss anything picking up the PSP version. It's supposed to be very challenging, especially if you try and approach it from a stealth standpoint like you're "supposed to," since combat can be fairly rigorous if you get caught, and the enemies are fairly good at spotting you
PSP controls shouldn't be a problem, since the character movement seemed to be better suited to a d-pad anyway, you could only tiptoe or run, pretty much, nowhere in-between. The nub shouldn't prove a hindrance
Though i haven't played it, so i can't personally judge it.

Tenchu has been in decadence after the first PS2 game. The sad thing is, I love so much ninjas I'll at least give this game a try. Yeah, there's ninja Gaiden and blah blah blah but those aren't the ninjas I like. The ninjas I like fight in their corresponding time period :P

Not really. You just lack comprehension skills =P
But then again, all I meant was:
Ninja Gaiden / Ninja Blade / etc = Ninjas in futuristic settings = Don't like
Tenchu = Ninjas in their correct time period (Feudal Japan) = Like
There aren't any other ninja games like Tenchu. Well, maybe Shinobido, but that's about it.

I'm just as excited as I would've been a week ago, I really want to play this new Tenchu since it's the first one by the original developers since Tenchu 2. In anticipation, I've been playing Tenchu 2 on my PSP, and MAN is that game good. Custom Firmware has helped me re-realize the glory of the PS1. Seriously, a map editor to make your own stealth missions? SO cool. You can barely find map editors anywhere these days, the last console one I recall is Far Cry 2.

I'm currently playing the jp release and it's a lot of fun. Controls not hard at all (nub is movement, d-pad not really utilized) and the graphics are pretty good IMO. Now I don't know if I should stop and wait for the english release or keep going.

i have both tenchu 1 and 2, and also wrath of heaven for ps2 and i couldnt be more disappointed in shadow assasins on wii. i rented it and the game is entirely too linear. missing is the rooftop travel and the ability to reach your destination by any means you choose. Tenchu on Wii was really lacking for me.
