Hopefully they will be more than just $5 less than a new one like at Gamestop.

I'm right there with you Joey. If anything, this will drive the prices retailers pay for used games up, because Game Stop hasn't had this kind of competition for a while.

I like how they won't purchase 'A' rated games. You know, all those 'A' titles out there.

Oh but AO is fine. Just, you know, not A.

my abhorrence with used-game sales at GameStop is that they buy-back (and subsequently try to sell) games in horrible condition. few used games still have the original case and manual, and it seems like none ever have scratch-free disc. call me anal but that stuff matters. hopefully Toys R Us will exercise a bit more discretion when it comes to buying used games. until then i'll gladly pay the extra $5 for a new game in pristine condition...unless of course we're talking about some 1st generation PS2 game thats near impossible to find anywhere else in any other condition.

While I can't speak for all stores, obviously, I do know that gamestop typically has a fairly strict "no scratch" policy and if the disc IS all scratched up they charge a refurb fee (an extra deduction) and should send the disc out for refurb. As for the game case and manual, I agree with you there and it ticks me off too. Well, when I used to shop there. I don't anymore, amazon prime is my choice.

"must be in original case with case artwork and player's manual. Game disc cannot be cracked"

Oh well, there goes 70% of the targeted customers. lol

I was the manager of an R-Zone several years back, and working for TRU was one of the worst experiences in my life. I can't see this ending up in anything but disaster. The store near where I live now is just as poorly staffed as any other location, and it is like this during the whole year except for the holiday season. They don't have the manpower or organization in place to do this. What a crock.

I worked at one maybe 11 years ago? Assembled bicycles, powerwheels, playsets, worked the warehouse and the electronics/collecters item booth.

What sticks with me is memories of some of the loser adults who collected either Starting Lineup figures or Collector Edition Barbie Dolls. Good gad, way I felt at the time was that for all I care you can take those folks and throw 'em right in the dumpster.

Competition is always good.

On another note, I bought my Sega Genesis with Geoffery Bucks...one of my biggest regrets since I got rid of so many great N64 games in the process. Ah well you live and you learn, right?

The Toys R Us I worked at did this a year ago, and all it did was fail miserably.

We ended up with a bin full of used games no one bought, and they ended the program a couple months after it started.

(It was the Chesterfield Store, in Missouri...we pretty much were the let's test all our crazy ideas here store)

I remember that "Gefforey Bucks" system, from what I remember it was pretty good. Trade-in values were probably inflated though.

I wonder if this is a sign of returning to the old days of TRU, where the products were arranged in endless straight aisles instead of in a big store-sized loop configuration, where consoles were kept behind glass next to the boomboxes and Synsonics guitar with built-in amplifier, and buying a game meant taking a piece of paper up to the register, then waiting 20 minutes for some pimply slob to answer the service bell at the electronics pickup booth.

I don't know what you guys are bitching about the Toys R Us by me actually has a couple guys that know what they're talking about. Saved me from buying shitty games like Lair and Golden Axe. Bought Uncharted instead of Lair and Ninja Gaiden 2 instead of Golden Axe. Totally go there to get my games. Not trying to advertise I just have had good experiences there unlike my times at Circuit City (wonder why) and Gamestop.

Eh, what? Where were you when the internet was hating Lair for what seemed like forever? Even ESPN was running articles on how awful the control scheme was.

Just find it odd that due to a cuppla TRU employees you changed those game choices. Figure if you were a savvy videogame blog reader you woulda heard that jazz :P

I was there in the morning the day Lair came out didn't read any reviews just read all the previews saw the graphics 7.1 surround sound, dragons, just seemed like a cool game. I remember reading several previews especially Game Informer's and all of them were glowing about how cool Lair was. But I digress, still glad I didn't buy it. Rented it a couple months after release...Terrible Terrible game. What happened to Factor 5?

Markez you never had anyone suggest something in a store? Like a book, CD, movie, or game? There are people out there working in stores at actually know what the hell they're talking about. The only reason I've seen Tony Jaa's movies was because I was buying Enter the Dragon and a dude at Best Buy suggested Ong-Bak. Just saying.

I honestly can't remember the last time an employee of a store recommended a book, CD, or movie to me. My old roomie did, and incidentally works at a book store, but that probably doesn't count.

Competition is good. Maybe used game shops will have to compete to get good stuff in.

Here in Canada, Future Shop (like Best Buy, but everything is red instead of blue) is doing the used game thing too. So far all they have are used copies of Wiffle Ball and Homie Rollerz on the DS for 30$ a piece, but it just started. Hopefully it will work out.

....God knows that the "independent" used game shops need to get run out of business. Those 40$ mark ups on new games are just idiotic.
