Watchmen: Justice is Coming is ... coming to iPhone
We're not, as it were, opposed to the newly announced iPhone game (subtitled Justice Is Coming) based on this week's mega release Watchmen. We just, for the life of us, can't figure out what the hell it is. It's supposedly an MMO using Amazon's Cloud technology that lets players create their own character and battle it out for experience. But to our eyes, all of the characters basically look like homeless people fighting against other super-powered hobos. That's obviously a game we would want to play, but would anyone actually make it?
Now, as to what started the hobo wars and what (if anything) will end them, you'll have to wait for the game's March release to find out.

OMG!!! Is this a prequel to Condemned?!

Sorry Nintendo, I'm afraid you'll have to soon relinquish your shovelware crown to Apple. For it seems a new contender has emerged as the destination for half-assed ports and gimmicky game mechanics.

Still a very, very long way to go for that to come to fruition. I see it the other way: devs are warming up to the iPhone and although more slop will be served, more quality will come as well. There's junk on the Wii but great games like Smash Bros, Galaxy... WiiSports, and... um, lessee here... I already said WiiSports... Well, 'all those other good games' also showed up along with the shovelware.

Every time a video game adaptation is made of Watchmen, Alan Moore's beard vomits rage.
What does regurgitated rage look like you ask? Black venom.

if Rorschach knew about this whoring of epic, Guitar Hero like proportions, he would kill the people behind it and their dogs too.

I can see the backstory now. Unscrupulous film makers bribe the local homeless with sandwiches and booze to put on fights for the film makers to sell over the Internet.

Wait, that's a brilliant idea!

Am I the only one that smells rotting meat all around this franchise? I LOVE the comics and have done since I bought them one at a time when they first came out. But I have SUCH a bad feeling about this.
ill trooper @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:41PM
I'm smelling that too! The movie looks great though.
Reader @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:56PM
I just want to watch the movie... I don't ever really buy video games that come out because of movies since they're usually poorly made money grabs.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 2nd 2009 10:48PM
im getting that feeling too. i was never really a comic book fan but i kept seeing the ads when im surfing at school (no Ad-Block Plus) so i downloaded the motion comics. i loved the motion comics but now im starting to sense that they are just trying to milk the superhero craze going on right now. hopefully im wrong though and the movie will be as awesome as the comics.

I'm OK with The End is Nigh, and if the demo is fun enough and the length is right, I'll certainly be ok with spending $20 on it. It's using established canon to do a story with the inclusion of key Watchmen people like Gibbons and Wein (who is writing the story and edited the book when it came out). I have no issues with that at all.
But this? I don't think I can describe this in words. It seems to have little, if anything, to do with anything relating to the story on any level, beyond being set in the same kind of world.

This reminds me of this "free" "MMO" a friend made me play once. I don't even remember anything about it, except that it was third person, involved swords and guns, and you had to fight other people in this area "for experience" and buy crap with it after each round.
It was one of those "MMOs for people who don't know what an MMO is", which is what this looks like.

What Stunning visuals!

The funny thing is, before I even read either the Title of the post, or the post itself, i thought to myself, "What the hell? A game about fighting homeless guys?".

Old Bessie's not quite dry yet, I think I can squeeze just a few more drops out of her before sending off for the rendering truck.

Can I reveal it from my hand and say "it's coming" to damage my opponent?
ftatoronto @ Mar 13th 2009 3:44PM
I downloaded and installed this game. I love that fact thats its online. I just cant get what the point of the game is. Really. Gain experience and costumes...whats the end goal?
